Traditionally a difficult period of life from a social and sometimes physical standpoint, the teen years represent a coming of age in most individuals, a time during which emotional growth is at its peak. Extractions: General links There are over twenty thousand families in the UK whose children are home educated, and at least a million in the USA. One family can only provide one perspective on home education. Every child is unique, every parent has a different background, and each situation provides different opportunities for learning. There are thousands of homeschooling web sites based in the USA, and a few elsewhere in the world. I have selected some which had family appeal and other interest rather than being just a list of links to resources. So have a look at some of the following sites, which introduce other home educating families and their own unique perspectives on home education - as well as a wide variety of other interests. The Underhill Family web site : A web site which features motorbike building and a rabbit, as well as some useful reviews of software and information about home education, particularly details of activities in the West Midlands. The Haylett Virtual Residence : A Christian family site, full of useful information about home education in the UK, with several articles about Christian issues related to relationships, families and education.

They have found new interests and we have all learned a lot! Many people in the UK do not realise that home education (known as 'homeschooling' in the USA) is legal, even if the parents are not teachers. However, according to the 1996 education act, it is parents who are responsible for providing their children's education 'in school or otherwise', suitable for the age, ability and aptitude of each child. Some children are taken out of school due to bullying or other serious problems, but there is a growing number of parents who home educate their children from the start. This site explains some of the reasons that people are choosing home education, with suggestions about how to get started and links to
