It enables people to communicate using integrated media: audio, video, text, graphics, fax, and telephone. The combination of several media often provides richer, more effective communication of information or ideas. Most multimedia projects have been developed for one of three main purposes: promotion, education, and training, the so-called "PET" areas. Interactive multimedia (IMM) allow the user to participate in directing the flow of information coming from a computer or video program. The medium motivates people to learn by combining colourful graphics, animation, text, narrative, and realistic sound effects, among other things. The interactive component, which could include exercises and questions, further motivates users and stimulates their interest. Extractions: Neil Cameron I. Everything Personal. Critical reviews, at least in academic journals, are usually written in the third person, with its implication of impersonality and neutrality. I am abandoning this convention here, in a reflection on Brian McKenna's widely-celebrated and widely-condemned television film The Valour and the Horror . I cannot claim to be an entirely detache observer; I had some correspondence and discussion with McKenna about both of his films dealing with Canadians in the two World Wars. Furthermore, McKenna himself has explicitly rejected the idea that his personal character and motives and that of his critics can or should be separated from the content of his film, and how it was received. The same holds true for the most important national magazine story attempting to explain the controversy about the film. So I will also declare my own reactions in equally personal terms. I intensely disliked The Valour and the Horror , especially the central episode that dealt with the aerial bombing offensive on Germany in World War II. I can at least agree with McKenna that it is precisely the nature of his personal interpretation that is the central problem of the film. I hope to explain just why our interpretations are so different, but also why there is more involved than a clash of purely subjective opinions.
