Extractions: The plan is to take the film studio to the veteran. Given the age and health of many of these veterans, and to help facilitate the recording of these oral histories without disrupting the lives of these veterans, a camera TEAM will accompany the interviewer to locations across the western states in a sort of film studio on wheels. Film students, under the umbrella of Abbey Academy of Arts, working under the direction and supervision of seasoned film professionals, will travel to the veteran and where possible vidio-tape these unsung warriors in the comfort of this film studio at their own homes. These student interns, trained in sound, lighting and general camera operation, will assist the California Center for Military History's interviewer in the collection of these veteran's true-life stories using state-of-the-art digital film and computer editing equipment on board this mobile film studio Using this material, other film student interns will be expected to create and produce a number of short range multi-media film projects encompassing broadcast, non-broadcast and interactive online media for a wide range of educational activities which will provide a unique and compelling experience through media production and delivery. Still, other assigned student interns, acting under the guidance of our TEAM of educators, will then be expected to spearhead a variety of K-14 educational initiatives to be developed in conjunction with lesson plans being developed for both online and off-line programing being developed by the California Military History Educational Project. This area of the project will draw upon the skills of these student interns majoring in journalism, photojournalism, art, history, film, media production, animation, and other related areas.
