Prevention . Break in new boots before you begin your hike. Always keep your feet dry while hiking. When you stop for breaks, take your shoes and socks off to air out your feet; change socks. Don't wait for a blister to develop. As soon as you feel any discomfort, place adhesive tape, duct tape, moleskin, or a blister-care product over areas of developing soreness. Treatment . If a blister forms and irritation makes draining it necessary, wash the area with soap and water and prick the edge of the blister with a needle that has been sterilized by the flame of a match. Bandage the area with a sterile gauze pad and moleskin.
