The Florida State Documents Depository program was established in 1967. Broward County Library became a depository for state documents in 1968. Some libraries use the Dewey Decimal classification system to organize their materials, while others, including BLG, use a modified version of the Federal Superintendent of Documents system. The types of documents distributed through the program range from bills before the Legislature to reports of nursing home health violations to technical monographs from the University of Florida on the flora and fauna of the Everglades. The most comprehensive catalog of these materials can be found at the: Florida Atlantic University Library's Florida Documents Index Another source for state documents is the Statistical Reference Index and its accompanying microfiche from Congressional Information Service. This tool indexes and abstracts hundreds of statistical documents from all states. It also includes publications of trade and professional associations, state universities, and research institutes. The BLG Department has this index as well as microfiche copies of many of the indexed publications.
