The State of Texas removes children from their homes every day due to abuse and neglect. These children need loving, supportive, and caring families to care for them during this time of need. Star Youth Homes feels that children are very precious and the care of children that have been abused and neglected requires a deep faith and commitment. Foster Parents give a precious gift to a child and that gift is the warmth of a home, the security that someone is there to protect them and the direction toward developing an abiding faith in God. Foster families are given stipends which are used to care for the child, and the child placing agency provides training, therapy, record keeping and monitoring to help the foster family meet state requirements. Through a specialized training program, Star Youth Homes is able to provide foster parents with the tools to care for children who have emotional barriers, difficulty relating with peers and adults, and behavioral difficulties. We are looking for Christian families to open their hearts and homes to help children in need. Star Programs was founded by Rand and Colleen Southard in 1989 in Ingram, Texas. Their vision was to provide a summer camp for learning disabled, behaviorally challenged children. Star Ranch summer camp now serves 230 children each summer with fun activities and academic development.

NCHS will provide all the supplies needed for fostering: cages or crates, food, and litter. All you need to provide is the love and care. You will be interviewed to determine your home situation and what type of foster pet would work out best for you. Fostering, in addition to providing an animal with much needed love and attention, allows us to evaluate the animal's temperament and habits. This knowledge helps us to make better decisions as to a permanent home. Sometimes fostering involves caring for an animal for a week or two following a medical procedure or administrating medication to treat a condition requiring more frequent attention than would be possible in the shelter environment. For example, it might require ear drops or eye drops 3-4 times a day, or just caring for a pet with a bandaged leg.

With a half million children in U.S. foster care, the need for foster care and adoption services is urgent. We are here to thank and honor you for making the commitment to help "somebody else’s child," and for putting in the day-to-day work — without fuss, fanfare or glory — to piece and hold young lives together. This cannot be an easy choice or a simple commitment to make. Yet, you are doing it. It has to be a challenging road full of unexpected twists and turns, and bumpy spots galore. Yet, you are traveling it. And we are certainly grateful that you are. For without your love, dedication and commitment to these special children, bad situations would become much worse, and the worst would be simply unthinkable. Societal problems are on the rise, disrupting homes and causing more children to be taken from their homes. These removals are always stressful, often traumatic, and frequently messy. The most important is the desire to show love to a child whose life may have been without the benefit of a caring family environment. Once that desire to serve is established in the mind and heart of an individual or couple, the remaining requirements include, but are not limited to: Must be financially self-supporting. Complete a series of forms. Attend an 8-hour orientation training program taught by the Koinonia staff. All adults in the home must be fingerprinted and obtain a criminal record clearance and a child abuse index clearance. Have a TB test, showing negative results. Obtain a general health clearance. Water Safety Training is necessary if there is a body of water such as a pool, spa or pond on the property, or if the children swim in an area where there is no lifeguard on duty. A current DMV printout showing proof of a valid drivers license.

They are now both grown and are both born again Christians. Raising my two boys has been, so far, the most rewarding experience in my life, other than meeting and serving my Lord Jesus Christ. There are thousands of children around the world waiting to be adopted. Thousands more are waiting for a decent foster home. As an Adoption Social Worker in the state of New York, I know there is an incredible shortage of decent foster/adoptive homes for these children. If you should decide to be a foster parent instead of adopt, think of the opportunity to introduce these children to the unconditional love of our Savior Jesus Christ. If you have done your job properly, even if these children return to a less than perfect home, they will know someone loves them unconditionally and they may even lead their parents to Christ. For single women, there is a program in some states where they can foster a pregnant teenager and then help her raise her baby. For single men, how about being a foster father for a teenage boy who may never have met a decent Christian man?

Extractions: The Rewards of Foster Parenting Foster care. This was not my husband's idea of fun bringing in kids from troubled homes with broken hearts and fractured childhoods. Would these kids teach "bad ideas" to ours? Would we have people stalking us wanting their kids back? Would we ourselves be falsely accused of mistreating a foster child? No, I told him, it would be fun, fun, fun. I was a foster kid until I was emancipated as an adult. I had wonderful foster parents that gently guided me through my high school years. I felt ready to give back what I had received. Gary and I went through MAPP, we loved it, learned lots, and became "Professional Parents". We received our first placement. A 6 month old baby boy who had a 14 year old mom. This placement gave us the opportunity to be broken in as foster parents. After a year and a successful reuniting with his mom we were ready for our next experience. And what an experience! I was asked to take in a 16 year old teen girl and her 5 month old baby boy. Would I be interested? Yes! Having been a teen mom myself, I thought this would be a breeze as far as being able to understand her and communicate with her. Well, it took a very long time to understand her and even longer to be able to communicate. Mary had come from a home where she had been emotionally and physically abused and abandoned. She planned her pregnancy to give her the sense of family so many teen girls are looking for. Her baby, Daniel, was a beautiful brown eyed boy that was easy to fall in love with. We were ready to include them in our family. But, Mary didn't want a new family, she had everything she felt she needed in Daniel and Daniel's father Mike. Her relationship was never accepted by her family and she had no idea or desire to bring together her life with Mike and us.
