Note: Due to the compression of the JPEG format, converting into non-compressed or less-compressed formats may greatly increase the file size. For example, a 1 MB JPEG became a 5 MB BMP. Your best bet may be to download the JPEG and then get an image converter from a shareware / freeware archive like Tucows . That will save you some download time in the long run. Fractal images are images created by a set of recursive mathematical formuli. The two most frequently mentioned ones are the "mandel" and "julia" sets. I personally have not done the mathematical studies required to understand the deep technical aspects of fractal mathematics and therefore will not try to explain what I don't know (*grin*). There are, however, many books and on-line resources available for those with the comprehension and the patience to learn more. For a little bit more information, see some of my links below.
