It has everything from the Alps, to beautiful warm beaches and even glaciers. France has a very centralized traffic system. Everything is going into our out of Paris. Paris is the heart of France and is one of the most popular and well known cities in the world. France has an area of 550 000 sq. km. and is a medium seized country on the world scale. Of this area, 56.7% are used for agriculture, 26.7% are forest, 0.3% water, and 16.4% for the rest. Although France is twice as big as Germany, only 57.7 million people live in France. Its neighboring countries to the north are Belgium and Luxembourg, to the east Germany and Switzerland, to the southeast Italy, and to the southwest Spain. France is generally subjected to maritime influences, particularly low fronts from the Atlantic which bring abrupt changes in the weather. The four main climate zones in France are the oceanic (mild winters, cool summers), semi-continental (cold winters, hot and stormy sumer weather), Mediterranean (hot and dry summers, mild winters), and the mountain climate zone (cold summer and winter). The seasons are quite distinct everywhere in France, but there are marked contrasts between coastal areas and the interior of the country, as there are between north and south.

It was in the Château de Chinon that Joan of Arc first recognized the disguised dauphin (later Charles VII) in 1429 and persuaded him to give her an army in order to drive the English out of France. Chinon is also the birthplace of François Rabelais, the Renaissance man, monk, doctor, philosopher, and writer, creator of Gargantua. First a Gallic site, then Roman, the castle continued to be built during the X, XIII, XIV and XV centuries. The Platagenet kings of England had elected this castle as their favorite residence. Henry the II, Richard the Lionhearted and John Lackland all lived here from 1154 to 1204. This is where Charles VII received Joan of Arc in 1429. From the top of the castle is a magnificent view over the old city and the Vienne Valley. There is also a small Joan of Arc Museum.
