5-0 out of 5 stars love this book
I have read lots of books on dog training, and this is by far my favorite. It's full of great information about teaching your dog manners, basic obedience, competition obedience, tricks, and useful skills. It has easy to follow information - exercises have a step by step approach with very clear directions for each little step. I'm teaching my dog to open and close the cupboard door - not because I need him to, but just for a fun bonding exercise (and of course to impress my friends) and by following the steps in this book it's going quite smoothly! This is not just a book for 4-H kids - it is for everyone with a canine in their life!

Product Description
Killed In Action is a historical account of the Vietnam Era told through the life of SP4 Stephen H. Warner, an anti-war activist who was drafted in 1969 after finishing his first year at Yale Law School. After induction into the Army, Steve remained bitterly opposed to the Vietnam War.However, when sent to Vietnam as a public information specialist, he repeatedly volunteered to go out into the field to write human interest stories about the combat soldiers. He often expressed a desire to emulate Ernie Pyle, who wrote such stories about the combat soldiers in World War II.Like Ernie Pyle, Steve was killed in action. In February 1971 the vehicle on which he was riding in Quang Tri Province was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade, killing Steve and three other American soldiers.

Killed In Action contains 22 photographs taken by Steve Warner during his travels around Vietnam, as well as a selection of his human interest articles. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Shining ideals and a life brought to its end all too soon
Written by an author who also served in the United States Army in Vietnam, Killed In Action is the biography of draftee, journalist, and anti-war activist Stephen H. Warner. Though staunchly opposed to the war, he refused to avoid service to his country for the sake of principle, and served as an Army journalist until enemy fire slew him. An eloquent, articulate account, that draws heavily upon Warner's own words and testimony from people who knew him, Killed In Action is a singularly vivid portrait and testament of shining ideals and a life brought to its end all too soon.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Ernie Pyle of the Viet Nam War
Drawn from the diaries and letters of a former anti-war activist who chose to serve rather than evade the draft and died in the waning days of the War, this gripping account of life in Nam has special poignancy today.Drafted out of Yale Law School, Steve Warner faces the dilemmas of his generation, but his war experiences change him.The author writes the book that Warner the journalist wanted to write but could not. Reads like a novel. I couldn't put it down.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST-READ FOR STUDENTS OF VIETNAM WAR HISTORY
Mr. Amchan has managed to explore all the contadictions and ambivalence of the Vietnam era through the forgotten story of one complex and courageous young man -- Stephen Warner.Deftly paced and brimming with historical fact and insight, it is of interest not only as great history, but as American drama.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MEMORABLE BOOK
THIS IS A TERRIFIC BOOK ABOUT AN ANTIWAR ACTIVIST DRAFTED OUT OF YALE LAW SCHOOL AND SENT TO VIETNAM LATE IN THE WAR.TOWARD THE END OF HIS ONE YEAR TOUR, STEVE WARNER, WHO DEVELOPED GREAT RESPECT AND AFFECTION FOR THE COMBAT INFANTRYMEN WHO FOUGHT THAT WAR, IS KILLED IN ACTION.

THE AUTHOR, HIMSELF A VIETNAM VET, TELLS THE COMPELLING, TRUE STORY OF STEVEN WARNER.A MUST READ FOR THOSE OF US WHO SERVED IN VIETNAM AND ENJOY READING ABOUT OTHERS WHO SERVED.THE AUTHOR'S DESCRIPTION OF ARMY BASIC TRAINING IS, BY ITSELF, WORTH THE PRICE OF THE BOOK.

5-0 out of 5 stars Killed in Action--The Journal of a Soldier
Killed in Action is a short, powerful book about SP4 Steve Warner, US Army, who could arguably be called the most intelligent enlisted man to have served in Vietnam. This remarkable story begins with Steve's undergraduate years at Gettysburg College where he became an articulate anti-war spokesman at a time when it was not popular cause.Graduating summa cum laude, he went to Yale Law for one year after which he was drafted.Rather than head for Canada he decided to serve and served admirably. The details of Army basic training in the late 60s are as accurate as any I have read.Anyone who went through at this, or any other time, will appreciate it.The story of Steve in Vietnam is absolutely incredible. He had a nice safe job in Public Information but chose to use this position to go out into the field and get stories from the fighting soldiers first hand. His journal entries from these trips are fascinating as is his metamorphis into a soldier. This book will interest both those for and against the war and shows the power war has to change a person. The black and white photographs (all taken by Steve) are stark and haunting.Highly recommend to anyone interested in the Vietnam War and its related affects. ... Read more

Rats in the WallsAfter its complete restoration, the narrator of this tale moves into his ancestral family home. Soon afterward, however, he begins to hear noises in the walls. Suspecting rats, he sets out traps but finds these vermin are not the kind so easily dispatched. One of the all-time creepiest of Lovecraft’s tales. The Shunned HouseIn the city of Providence stands an antique home of which everyone whispers. Never called “haunted” exactly, it is known as a place “unlucky,” one in which people have supposedly died in alarmingly great numbers. This is what Lovecraft’s narrator tells us, just before he and his uncle begin a series of investigations into the old place, a place with a terrible odor, one that is stronger in the basement than any place else--The Music of Erich ZannIn the city of Lights, an impoverished student hears incredible music coming from peaked garret overhead. He knows little of the violin, but is certain from the fantastic pieces he hears night after night that he is in the presence of a highly original genius. But, it isn’t long before he finds himself wondering, why does Zann only play at night? And why every night? The Dark Worlds Of H. P. 5-0 out of 5 stars Atmospheric 'straight' reading of HPL
Unlike other audio recordings I've listened to of Lovecraft's work, Wayne June's eschews hamminess or camping it up even at the stories' most luridmoments: he takes it all uniformly seriously throughout, which is all to the good, and his voice has a pleasing timbre. This set contains three unabridged readings of some of Lovecraft's best stories, 'The Rats In The Walls', 'The Shunned House', and 'The Music of Eric Zann'.All make for good audio experiences, though perhaps the 'historical' segment of 'The Shunned House' feels a little slow. One minor note, and one minor criticism. The minor note: in the original 'Rats' the narrator's cat was named Niggerman (after Lovecraft's own childhood pet). Here, to avoid needless offence, he is re-christened 'Mister Blackman', which is fine but of course fails to achieve the same stress-pattern in terms of prose-rhythm.The minor criticism: Mr June isn't too hot on French pronunciation, rendering Gilles de Rais as (hard-g) Gillis der Rates, as opposed to Jeelz de Ray, and fumbles a few other French names.Otherwise entirely a pleasure. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars An Axe To Grind
A previous reviewer of this book called it "objective," I find that analysis utterly laughable. I purchased this book for a class, if you are doing so as well be aware that the professor very likely has an axe to grind and is wishing to push their views upon you through the use of this book. I am of the belief that a class should be taught as objectively as humanly possible (my criterion for a good professor,) when objectivity is absent the student is essentially being indoctrinated and fed their views as if a baby chick hungrily accepting food from their mother. This book, with one chapter being the exception, is completely slanted--opposing sides of an issue are never presented. In short, this book SUCKED!

4-0 out of 5 stars Compelling cases, interesting reading
This book discusses various ethical situations regarding environmental issues, which could be rather dry material. However, the author writes in a more down-to-earth style, which makes it more enjoyable. The topics are certainly thought-provoking, and made for many interesting discussions at the dinner table.

3-0 out of 5 stars ****************************
This book is nice if you're looking for nice little vignettes on varied environmental subjects. But it is overtly biased politically, asides and analogies that have a left leaning are used throughout the text unnecessarily. Otherwise the information is pretty broad and it is not a bad little book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fire is right!
This book is full of conflict, Cornelia and Will are butting heads constantly. Conrnelia is having trouble not being the leader of the group. Her personality clashes with her role in the team. In addition she bags on Will constantly about leaving Taranee behind in the last mission. Will is constantly upset because she can telepathically hear her friend calling out to her but she can't get her answer though to her. Meanwhile in Metamoor Elyon is torturing Taranee and trying to brainwash her into beliving her friends have forgotten her. Back in Heatherfield not only Will misses Taranee but Irma and Hay Lin are off their games as well distant from reality. So the team finally put their differeces aside to go and save Taranee from Eylon. However when they get there will Taranee let her friends save her or not?

5-0 out of 5 stars i say i do like this book
after taranee was captured and held prisoner by cedric and eylon, the girls had to create an asteral drop. cornelia now highly doubts will's leadership skills even though taranee told will to leave her. the next day after school cornelia really gets on will's case about taranee and that it was will's fault. later the girls discover that the heartshows them the way to the next portal. meanwhile hay lin discovers a new power when hearing and song she sees someone's memories. when irma get's home she finds martin the annoy nerd who likes her in her house she denies him a date and pushes him out later the girls meet at the cave waiting for will, will goes to matt's house to drop of the doormouse and regrets not telling matt her true feelings since she might never see him again. as will arrives the guardains make asteral drops but will's remembers nothing so will writes down what she should do the girls head into the cave and cornelia mention taranee again, will snaps, you don't hear her desprate cry every day, every minute, every second! and cornelia has a bit more respect for her the girls go to metamoor and end up tiny and in a fishbowl the guardain escape and search for taranee. meanwhile taranee is being broken down, she was the most unwilling to use her powers so eylon know's she can't escape, eylon messes with taranee's mind showing her will's asteral drop is having some problem's she's lost the list of what she should do and doesn't know who she's supposed to kiss at 7:50(which the person is her mom) matt (will's crush) goes to her house to return the doormouse since it kept his parents up all night will answers the door in just a tee-shirt and matt says my parents can't erm keep the doormouse at their house i came over but it's only seven fifty, 'will' thinking matt is the one she should kiss kisses him and then closes the door. will later finds the list and finds out she should kiss her mom not that boy and it says don't kiss boys! she ask's her mom for advide have ytou ever kissed anyone by mistake and her mom says no but if that happened i'd slap him and will's mom tells her that mr. collin's the teacher she had lunch with are having dinner, will says have fun when the real will has be making a big deal about it. back in metamoor the girls are captured by cedic and see taranee who thinks they have betrayed her, after taradiscoverd thanks to will that it wasn't her taranee get's mad and breaks fee, and the other guardains transform, cedric and eylon get away but tarnee is back, at imra's house imra's drop accepts martin's date! and irma is furious! at will's house her mom canels her date and has dinner with will.

i have the comic version also it's really good and i did use part of that reveiw to make it but the comic verion is amazing!

3-0 out of 5 stars Review of W.I.T.C.H. #4by Julia, a 9 year old girl
This book was pretty good, and had a good ending. In the previous book, Taranee gets herself locked in a bubble to save the rest of the Guardians. They come to Meridian to save her, only to discover that she'd already melted it.Elyon and Cedric were pretty surprised at that.I didn't care for the way that a lot of the book was centered around Taranee, and that Cornelia kept saying that she should be leader, not Will.I don't blame W.I.T.C.H. for doing so much for Taranee, because they probably missed her.If I were a Guardian, I would do the same for a member of the group.

5-0 out of 5 stars Molica's review
Will and her friends misses Taranee who is in another realm. They went to Meridian to find Taranee, when they got there they met the bad guys. The bad guys trap them in a bubble. How are they going back to earth?

5-0 out of 5 stars Better and Better
Now this book is one of my all time favorites despite all of Cornelia's rudeness.Haven't you guessed that she is my way least favorite character. She is SO snobby and bratty. She thinks that the whole world revolves around her.Well, it doesn't.Anyway, this book is basically a continuation of the third book.In this book the girls rescue Taranee from Metamoor. And the girls also create astraldrops so their parents won't realize that they're gone. There is one thing I don't like about this book, though. The "cliffhanger" was not good at all.It didn't want to make me buy the next book.(Though I still want to.)But that was the only flaw.Otherwise, this book just took me out of my seat and whisked me away to a world of fantasy and adventyre. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Great writing, horrific politics
There's no question H. Beam Piper was a very good writer who could put out an engrossing story. But after a while you get tired of the "Confederacy was right, slavery is good, liberals are evil and stupid, and colonels with guns are always right while academics and politicians are fools" themes. In some storiesyou can ignore it but after a while his writing becomes more obnoxious than pleasant. Unless, of course, you really believe all slavery is good, the South should have won, and all liberals, leftists, government officials (except the military), and such are fools and worse...

5-0 out of 5 stars 32 Short Stories and books + 1
I have been collecting H. Beam Piper stories for a number of years. This is a wonderful collection of short stories and novels that I had not seen in print (read them all). While the title states this is 32 books, most are short short stories. Also, due to an editing error, where a short story does not have a break. It also includes a 33 book, the novel Space Viking. The books are: Little Fuzzy, The Cosmic Computer, Space Viking, and the Uller Uprising. It contains a couple short books, Four Day Planet, and Lone Star Planet. The remainder are a set of hard to find short stories. If you are an H. Beam Piper fan, this is a good one for your collection.

3-0 out of 5 stars Speaking of misleading ...
Found another misleading item:I didn't get a Table of Contents with mine.Maybe you don't get a TofC when you buy it for your 'Kindle for PC' ...

3-0 out of 5 stars Misleading
Sci Fi publishers have been trying to disguise short story collections as novels for some time but to call this 32 "books" is flat-out misrepresentation. I knew that when I bought it, inasmuch as dear old H.Beam never wrote 32 books in his abbreviated career. But that doesn't make the misrepresentation any better.

Having said that, it is still a worthwhile collection, although I think the Table of Contents should have been better edited to make clear which are stories, which novellas and which are novels. It's a shame Lord Kalvan of Otherwhen is not included.

4-0 out of 5 stars Oldies and goodies
Little Fuzzy is here but Lord Kalvan is missing. Many of his other "time" stories are represented as well as some non-science-fiction tales.Of particular interest to me was the short biography of Mosby.
H. Beam Piper has the ability to tell a story simply and clearly and yet deal with subjects that can be convoluted and twisted.
If you are a returning reader, you will feel at home immediately. If you are a new reader, settle back for some fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Manual!
The perfect manual for my 4Runner! I am so glad they still make these manuals!

4-0 out of 5 stars The reason my '98 Taco still runs like new.
I'd give this 5 stars, but it covers so many models that it can be tricky to decide what's going on in your specific application. Find a Toyota factory service manual to supplement where this book may be vague ([...]). Of course, both the Toyota and Haynes manuals inferred that my particular truck had serviceable front bearings when mine are really sealed. Just goes to show that the manufacturers can slip in and update their parts on any line at any time.

I'm guessing a mechanic or vo-tech student wouldn't benefit much, but for the rest of us untrained-but-mechanically-minded people this manual is great for maintenance, normal wear, and minor fails. This manual allowed me to do everything with the breaking system, fix the power windows, replace a steering knuckle, power antenna, and fuel filter, change all my fluids, and spark plugs, and gave me enough reminders to keep the truck running like new for the last 170k miles. I even used some of the troubleshooting pages for my wife's Jeep (which needed a lot of troubleshooting)! Now I almost get excited when something new starts showing signs of wear.

1-0 out of 5 stars general knowledge for novice to intermediate users only
This book skips all the info I bought a manual for with notes like 'further disassembly and service requires special tools and is not recommended, take the sub assembly to a service facility' wow, thanks for that, waste of money!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good to have on hand
Although a bit broad, but you know that by the title, this is a good manual to have on hand for basic maintenance issues, photos, diagrams, descriptions, etc.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended
This is the second Haynes manual I've purchased for a Toyota, and I highly recommend it. The best feature is that the instructions are clear and easy to follow, which take most of the guesswork out of performing simple repairs and preventative maintenance on your vehicle.

Another important characteristic of these manuals is that they educate you to the point where you can talk intelligently and confidently to a mechanic if necessary. Depending on the nature of the work you need, this can save you a significant amount of money, and this alone will pay for the cost of the book. ... Read more
