Product Description
This unique book draws on research that constituted the first major nationwide evaluation of the use and impact of key digital health information platforms which were provided to thousands of health consumers in the UK. The authors offer the first comprehensive and detailed comparison of usage and impact of the three major ICT platforms delivering health information - the internet, touch-screen kiosks and digital interactive television. It provides an extensive reference source on how health consumers behave when online, whether this differs according to digital platform or type of user, how users perceive digital health services and what health benefits these services deliver. The book will be invaluable reading for all those interested in digital health information - students, academics, health policy-makers and information managers. ... Read more

Product Description

Healthcare Information Management Systems, Third edition, will be a comprehensive volume addressing the technical, organizational, and management issues confronted by healthcare professionals in the selection, implementation, and management of healthcare information systems. With contributions from experts in the field, this book focuses on topics such as strategic planning, turning a plan into reality, implementation, patient-centered technologies, privacy, the new culture of patient safety, and the future of technologies in progress. With the addition of 28 new chapters, the Third Edition is also richly peppered with case studies of implementation, both in the United States and abroad. The case studies are evidence that information technology can be implemented efficiently to yield results, yet they do not overlook pitfalls, hurdles, and other challenges that are encountered. Designed for use by physicians, nurses, nursing and medical directors, department heads, CEOs, CFOs, CIOs, COOs, and healthcare informaticians, the book aims to be a indispensible reference.

4-0 out of 5 stars describes current and future systems
The book is not primarily meant for an IT person. Rather, its chapters are pitched at various types of administrators and managers within a hospital (or related organisation) that need to understand what is available in terms of information management. So the chapters are written in the context of those backgrounds.

Having said this, an IT manager for a hospital, or for an IT firm that wants to develop systems for hospitals, can read this book profitably. It describes current systems and desirable properties of future systems in ways that customers can appreciate. For you, it is vital to understand these viewpoints if you intend to develop, maintain or sell management systems to them.

2-0 out of 5 stars Student oriented - very basic and theoretical
The book seems to be oriented towards students learning about information systems in the healthcare context and is quite elementary in the topics covered.I didn't learn very much and preferred "InformationTechnology for Integrated Health Systems" (an Errnst and Young book)edited by Kerry Kinsinger and Sandra Borchardt. ...
