Family Fitness
All the fun family games from childhood, we just used this at a family BBQ this weekend and the kids had a blast. I had no idea kids didn't know these out door games anymore. It was fun to watch them learn it and love it like I did as a child.

A Must for Healthy Family Fun

Fitness the way it used to be done

Subtle Marketing For the Narnia Movie
Fun for the Whole Family Hour Leader Kit was given to me for review by Group.

This kit is supposed to be used by families to create an hour's worth of material in connection to the latest Narnia movie to be released by FOX.

With that in mind, this kit is simply a clever advertising ploy.

In the kit, you will find a CD with a number of songs to be played in the background. You will get a DVD with three clips from the Voyage of the Dawn Treader movie. And you will get a map. This map has some unique properties to it as there are sections on it that can be revealed using water.

The songs on the CD are the best thing about this kit. There are a number of original as well as familiar songs included. Many of the songs have a sea-faring sound.

I would not recommend this for anyone. I can see churches and Children's Ministry leaders being sucked into the idea of facilitating an entire hour of fun for families that seem to find very little time together.

Unless you want to help promote the new Narnia movie, pass on this kit.

Outreach Opportunity Plus Movie Night for Narnia Fans
With the newest installment of the Narnian series, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader,set to release in December, Mike Flaherty of Walden Media offered Group Publishing the opportunity to utilize movie clips in order to create a unique, interactive family resource for churches. Group excitedly accepted the offer. Shannon Velasquez, of the Group VBS Team, asks "How often do kids get to spend an hour with their parents, talking, laughing, and growing in faith in surprising ways?"

Our family recently took a quiet weekday evening to hold a "family movie night." That evening we participating in the following in about an hour's time:

* went through the Fun for the Whole Family Hour Leader Guide
* listened to music on the accompanying CD
* discovered secret messages on a treasure map
* viewed three short scenes from the upcoming movie, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
* discussed the biblical character Zacchaeus as well as the Narnian character Eustace
* participated in a family blessing and prayed together

While we loved the family activities (my children especially loved uncovering secret messages on the map by dipping their fingers in water and touching them to the map!), we did have one concern. We did think the story about Eustace might just need to be fleshed out a little more for families who have not read the Narnian series or listened to an audio adaptation of it. Perhaps prior to hosting an event such as this, church leaders could suggest to their church members to read C. S. Lewis' book as a family read-aloud or excerpts from the book could be read in Sunday School prior to the event or even during this family event.

The family discussion starters and the leader's "script" were all well done, and the suggested Zacchaeus drama could potentially be very engaging. Individual families do get to take home a music CD as well as a re-usable treasure map with secret messages revealed by applying water, so the potential for extending the learning and discussion at home is good.

This Fun for the Whole Family Hour set could be a good way to bring church families and their un-churched neighbors together and introduce the wonders of Narnia--and the biblical lessons which can be gleaned from this Christian literary classic. For churches planning to utilize this resource, your church may wish to extend this event into another evening in which your church can attend a group showing of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

Fun for the Whole Family game
This is a game for the whole family from our little five year old, our seven year old and the adults.This is a game that will teach you more about the Bible, while you play the game, listen to the music and just have fun together. We have always enjoyed the movie Narnda and this game showed clips when we could talk about it.Now I only have the leader pack and not yet bought the packs for my whole family.I would also like for my church group to try it out and maybe we can get a thing going at some of our gatherings.

I know I have not done justice to this great game but you really need to play it see what I am talking about.

This is a well written,witty and insightful book.

Cute books.
These books are cute.But I still like Where is Baby's Belly Button the best.The vocab in that book is good for an infant.These books are more advanced, yet sort of simple.I like them because they have a story for all the family members, so it's cute that way.

good for babies AND beginning readers
this book is fantastic for babies (a warm message, interactive & engaging flaps, easy and clear language, etc) but also my kindergartner loves reading this book -- and the words are well targeted (not too many silent E's, tricky blends ("ph", "th") or other challenging "tricks of English"... and the pictures match the words so even when kids can't sound the word out, they can look at the picture for a good clue, and the patterns and repetition in Katz's writing make for a supportive, constructive reading & learning experience.)

These are top-notch, high-quality books that will excite -- and not frustrate -- your child as they enter the world of books and reading.

Great collection of famlly books
My daughter loves the flip a flap type of books out there. She loves when she gets to see the surprise underneath. We had already owned the Where is baby's bellybutton and a Big sister book by this author, and i was so happy to see that there was a collection put together like this at a fantastic price. We purchased this for our daughters last christmas and she loves them! The cover box makes it easier for her to carry all four books and she loves her stories with her mama and daddy.

Nice book

Great easy to make ideas
I have wanted to purchase this book since I first saw the castle cake in Family Fun magazine.I especially like not having to purchase special cake pans, which take up alot of room.For my niece's 5th birthday I added a Ariel doll to the Aquarium Cake and voila! it was now an unofficial Undersea Little Mermaid cake.

Wonderful
My daughter is in kindergarten and she loves this book. As a parent, I really enjoy watching her pick up the book and read " chapters" with confidence. We have previously struggled through other books geared for her age group but none have been something my daughter wants to read to herself. I would recommend this book to any parent whose child is beginning to read. A love of reading comes from success!

Egads, these books are so boring they should have died of boredom many years ago.
When I first had these readers assigned to me in 1953 they were the most boring books I ever read or have read thereafter. "Mother" stays home and wears dresses. "Father' goes to work. In 1953 I don't remember many families like that, and for sure today's children are not being reared in that style. I cannot imagine how awful and strange these books must seem to children who now have instant information accessible to them via computers and the Internet. To compare then and now, nowadays children are often (not all school districts) expected to be able to read before they start kindergarten. Back then, when we started kindergarten we were taught to count from one to ten and learn "to say our ABC's". I was very disappointed to see these books are still around! Go, Go, Go, Run, Run, Run, Vomit, Vomit, Vomit! And to all of you who also gave them one star, Clap, Clap, Clap! You are wise people.

Book Review
I purchased this book to help my granddaughters learn to read. I already had the condensed book of Sally, Dick and Jane stories. I didn't remember seeing this one when I was growing up. I appreciate the diversity of the book. This book is a 1965 edition and is in brand new or at least book shelf condition. Thank you for sending this book in such a timely manner.

I prefer the other books in this series
My daughter, who is 3, loves these Dick and Jane book reprints. The language is easy for her to understand, and the three- to five- page stories fit her attention span well - she can really get her mind around them.

That said, I would recommend the other books in this series - "Fun Wherever We Are", "We Play Outside" and "We Play and Pretend" ahead of this one, due to some sloppy editing.

In my edition, for example, page 78 appears out of order - it belongs to a completely different story - and the African-American characters, Mike and Pam and Penny, are switched out halfway through with new drawings that look entirely different, a bit like when they cast new actors in the same old roles on a sitcom.

"Why does Mike have a different face?" aske my blond, blue-eyed daughter, and she was right - Mike and his family had suddenly gone from very dark-skinned to very light-skinned, with new hairstyles to boot.

Don't let that turn you off the series as a whole, however, which is otherwise excellent.

An Good Starting Point, Lacks a Little Depth.
This is a decent little book, but since it covers the entire state, it
needs to stick to the main attractions and does not got too deep into
any location.There will be just a couple of recommendations for
restaurants for example, and attractions like Gatorland are missing from
the Orlando coverage.

Quality: This book seems a little more glossy than the run of the mill
Frommer's book and it did an excellent job when I was flipping through
and showing my seven year old possible things we could do while on our
vacation. It is not crammed with photos, but it has enough to make page
flipping worthwhile.

Coverage: Since my son is into nature and fossil collection, we needed a
lot more resources to find a fossil expedition and specific nature
stops.Also, since our trip was mainly concentrating on the southwest
coast, the other 3/4ths of the book did not help much. And as stated
above, there were not a whole lot of different options, this is a pretty
general book possibly because the targeted audience are British
vacationers focusing on Disney and Universal theme parks. The travel
information was decent, although quaintly British again.

British thing: Forgive me if I am missing something about Frommers, but
this book is strongly aimed at the British visitor to Florida.For the
most part this is no problem as long as you can get over hire car
instead of rental car or the idea of "liquified baby food," But there is
a decidedly British tilt to attraction selection as well, for example
biplane rides for kids with Biggles fascination.Very few kids on this
side of the pond have any idea what Biggles is about.The book does not
say it is written for Brits but it seems to have been. (Even tells you
where you can get British newspapers.) It still worked for us as a very
high level overview of Florida, but to match our families interests, we
had to go other places as well.

Overall impression: Decent book, but light on specifics or depth of
choices. If you are looking for off the beaten track options you might
