We were looking for a book with games and new ideas for a recent youth campout and found exactly what we were looking for in this helpful book. It was a short camp so we have lots of great ideas and help for planning the next event and not necessarily just for camp.

i read this book and i learned alot thank you

5-0 out of 5 stars Great ideas for novice and experienced outdoor cooks
As an outdoor trainer, I find this (and other Dian Thomas books) invaluable parts of my personal training library. She offers many simple yet intriguing ideas for outdoor cooking fun, suitable for novices or experienced cooks who want to add flair to their outdoor cooking experiences. My particular favorites are the wheelbarrow grills (great when the local ordinances will not allow us to build a fire on the ground) and the turkey cooked hung from a tripod (We fed 15 people with a "bird" done this way. It took a lot of work to set it up, but we were paid off in oohs & ahs for our inventiveness!)

5-0 out of 5 stars "Roughing It Easy" is da bomb!!!!
Roughing it easy was problably the best camping book I have ever read. It had lots of inovative ideas that made my camping experience very memroable. Another book I might recomend is Roughing it Easy 2.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the few down to earth fun camping/cooking books ever!
I have over 35 years experience in camping, hiking, survival training and having fun and a great experience in the back yard and the wilderness. This book offers a smile and easy fun for enjoying the rough aspects of the outdoors.I am sincerely disappointed that it is out of print. It must be that the publishers has his/her toenails done daily, because he/she has no clue as to what enjoyment this book can bring away from their overdomestication.I have worn out my first copy (the one with the colored pics), but smiled doing so. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars ideal for a family of begginers
My family wants to learn to do things. We just got a set of tools and we borrowed this book to get started. It is the perfect book for a family who doesn't know where to start, who wants to spend time together and build something.
The book offers projects organized by room.
The first section is about materials and tools, motivating family members and safety tips. Eric Stromer made me want to get a nailgun!
The projects are mostly woodwork and help you create many helpful shelving systems and containers for storage. There are also very neat ideas to get your children to LOVE their rooms and keep them decluttered.
Every project is very well described, explained step by step and there is plenty of room for your own adaptations and variations on the theme. It is really easy to follow. There is no time set as it's written to be done with kids, so a project could take several days or weeks if life gets busy.
Eric Stromer also offers short projects, called "under threes" to get something done under 3 h and within a tighter budget. It's a cool alternative to remotivate your team.
I would personnaly start with the last project in the book: the workbench. Then we want to do the big-kid headboard with the rope light and storage.
This book is a gem. I am not a big fan of tv people writting books just because, but this one is smart and inspiring. With a little imagination you can do almost anything. After a few projects you'll know to make all the basics, that you can combine according to your needs. We plan on getting this book. And a nail gun.

3-0 out of 5 stars A fun book with a great format!
This book offers fun ways to incorporate some new foods, interesting facts and great biblical truths. The format is fantastic. Each chapter features a different region of the world (Africa, Asia, South America, Western Europe, etc.). Within the chapters, sections are divided by country. Obviously, not every nation in the world is represented, but the author does a good job including many of them (over 50 countries) from every corner of the planet. Each page consistently offers four sections:

* The Recipe -- Most have few ingredients and simple instructions. Icons highlight which recipes kids can help prepare and which they can do by themselves.
* Did You Know? -- This section offers interesting facts about one of the recipe's ingredients, the nation of origin or a Bible story that relates to this food or people group.
* What Can You Do? -- Here readers find a project or activity that ties in with the recipe or facts just learned. Sometimes it's a game or conversation starter; sometimes it's a craft or science project.
* What Does the Bible Say? -- This is a Bible verse (with reference) related to the food or lesson. These make great memory verses or the start of simple meal-time devotions.

I like this book, but I wish it were more internationally focused. Of the 100 recipes included, seventeen of them are from North America. I don't need to buy an international cookbook to make apple pie, brownies or blueberry pancakes. Also, the "wacky facts" are not always related to the country listed. For example, Vinete, an eggplant dip from Romania, doesn't mention anything about Romania or the people there. Instead it talks about Thomas Jefferson and how he brought eggplant to the United States.

Final Thoughts: My intention was to use this book to teach my children more about missionaries and the countries where they serve. It's not the best book for this purpose, but it's still a fun book to have around. ... Read more

I happily read many of the descriptions in this book and was excited to take my three children to some of the wonderful places described. However, the descriptions are not realistic - time after time I ended a day with disappointed children, feeling frustrated myself. The book is well written, but the descriptions are often exaggerated and result in disappointed children and frustrated parents. The author does not seem to understand what it is children like to do. My recommendation would be for families visiting CT to try a different guide.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Comprehensive - A Dreamer
The book would be great if the author had really experienced the place written about. I've lived here all my life, and spent most of my advanced years visiting and supporting these various tourist sights. I was verydisappointed that the author left out so many of the wonderful placesavailable to mom's and their young. Of course these places are available tointerested fathers also. Take the time to be with your kids ( forget thekitchen, it will be there when you get back)and enjoy Connecticut. But, goto a visitor center for a listing of the Hot Spots for Kids! This book isan entry level look at Connecticut from a busy mom's rushed experiences. Not bad. Just not the authors best work.

5-0 out of 5 stars A "must" for all Connecticut homes
If you live with kids anywhere within travel distance of this beautiful state, this book should be in regular use in your home. You can't beat the honest, personal and informative way this book will make your trips apleasant memory.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent guide to Connecticut for the whole family
Doe Boyle's Fun with the Family in Connecticut is exceptional. The text is enjoyable to read as well as informative. It is clear she personally visited many of the sites. It is rare that a family travel guide is written so well. I've found tons of things to do with my family after reading her book. The book is so well done I read it cover to cover simply for pleasure. Easy to follow & fun-to-do service projects. I disagree with the person who said you could just find things online to do- it's SO much easier using this book, from someone who has actually done these projects & put them in one easy-to-read and follow book! I use this for my family & also to offer ideas for service within the church & community! Great book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
As a mother and teacher I HIGHLY reccommend this book. It is a must have for anyone wanting to increase service in their or their family's life. It's a wonderful resource I use in both my my home and classroom as it has the tools and, most importatnly, the motivation to incorperate service.
