4-0 out of 5 stars A good overview
This book was definitely a good overview into the techniques of posing, but it could have been a little more in depth as far as locations (indoor/outdoor) and the use of furniture affect a model's posture.

2-0 out of 5 stars Some take aways but not worth the read
After a couple flips on the pages, I found it with little information next to nothing. Very disappointing...

2-0 out of 5 stars Posing techniques review
This was just another run of the mill book that had some pretty good pictures but it did not inspire me nor did it give me the details of the behind the scenes lighting set up or details of the camera settings. The pictures were nice but if you are looking for some meat, it is not in this book.JMHO

2-0 out of 5 stars Sloppy writing and misleading title
The title of this book suggests it is very specific and, indeed, two of it's six chapters are about posing techniques. The rest of it, though, is a mishmash of very general tips ("make a fake-portfolio of magazine images you like" or some variation of it is repeated over and over again) and useless definitions (there is an entire chapter defining what fashion, or glamour, or commercial photography is - someone buying a book as specific as the title suggests does not need this).

Even in the useful parts, the book suffers from lack of structure and many of the examples contradict the guidelines presented on the text. It really seems this book was made in a hurry, and the end result is a big disappointment. I gave it two stars because there is, indeed, good information lost in the confusion, but it really should have much more.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great start for amateurs
This is the only book on this topic I've found that offers specific, constructive techniques. Rather than just diagrams of where the model was and what lights were used, this actually talks about hand placement, body positioning, etc. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
As an aspiring model, this book was extremely helpful to me. There is a lot of great advice and warnings from a woman who has worked in the business for years.

5-0 out of 5 stars MUST READ
Judy's book is the very first thing ANY hopeful model should pick up.It is written with direct experience, has very specific examples, and is the single most informative source for modeling information that I've found. She writes in a positive and encouraging tone, and even gives you some contacts at the end of the book.Bottom line: DON'T SKIP THIS.I will keep this and refer to it many times.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazingly Easy
While actual breaking into modeling is not at all easy, the directions and general guidelines in this volume are amazingly easy to read and project future actions thereon. I bought this for a friend who now is planning to work part-time as a model for figure drawing classes. She thinks the volume is wonderful. Thanks!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic-very informative!

2-0 out of 5 stars Appropriately Named
This book is good if you really have no idea in the whole universe about modeling. I thought it stated a ton of obvious information. Instead of being "a complete guide" it really is an overall "introduction". I think this book is aimed at teens and pre-teens, as an adult I thought it was written retardedly. Don't buy it. Get a different book about the industry.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Informative
I enjoyed reading and learning about modeling and all the things that modeling is comprised of. It also helps points you in the right direction for modeling. It also informs you about modeling scams that take advantage of people and there money. I find this book really useful and helpful. It was well laid out and well organized.

2-0 out of 5 stars Feels dated
This book may have only been published a few years ago but it feels dated. It is a good book to give a model the general idea of the modeling business, but doesn't cover as much as it could.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great!
I highly recommend this book. This book is great. She also has a section for parents with children who wants to model.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Complete Idiot's Guide to Being a Model, 2nd Edition (Complete Idiot's Guide to)

1-0 out of 5 stars Greedy parents?
I'm tired of this idea that parents should be encouraged exploit their own kids for money! This book teaches you how to brainwash your little one to think what that want is what you want (basically, money and fame). Who cares what the child actually wants?

The book teaches you that success in life is measured in fame and dollars. The title alone says it all: "Kids Plus Modeling Equal Money". Basically, the point that is made is that since you already have a kid, why not get your money's worth?

Even though it is proven that most kid celebrities whom are pushed too hard too young usually end up depressed and into hard-partying and drugs and alcohol, many parents are still convinced that fame plus fortune equals happiness. IT DOES NOT!

4-0 out of 5 stars Ignore the off-putting title
Despite the rather offputting title, this book is actually pretty good and informative. It doesn't contain pictures, but it does take a rather unique approach from a parents perspective covering things such as managing expenses that seems very useful and could save lots of hassle and mistakes. Covers a wide range of topics and contains lots of information. ... Read more

This book provides readers with the necessary experience and practice to produce and illustrate complex 3D interior components and furnished spaces in an amount of time that will allow additional studio projects to be completed in the course of one semester. It begins with basic concepts of 3D solid modeling. This approach helps readers understand and construct complex composite solid models. A portion of the book includes a four-part chapter on working with the soft goods such as draperies and tablecloths produced with surface modeling techniques. The book also includes a chapter on teaching designers how to render an interior environment and a chapter exercise that teaches students to produce walk-through animations. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Realistic view
This is not your typical "don't do" this, or "do" that kind of book. The author spends the time in layman's terms to explain the ins and outs of the modeling business. Whether your intent is to become the next supermodel or you are just a casual participant (or considering), Mr. Talley explains the ups and downs to the different avenues of modeling. This is an excellent read for models, aspiring models, parents, and photographers. You will find yourself reading again and again and recommending to others.

5-0 out of 5 stars most popular
This book sits out in a place of honor dead center on the big coffee table in the waiting area of my studio. I refer young models and their moms to it constantly. It is a one hundred percent bona fide guide to the industry, no song and dance, no smoke and mirrors just the facts of life in one of the toughest and most mis-understood and mis-represented businessess on the planet.

If you want to model, buy this book and read it cover to cover. Then read it again.

If you have a kid or loved one who wants to model, casually or professionally, buy this book and give it to them.

I am a professional photographer in Nasvhille Tennessee. My wife and I operate our own studio and this book is now my number one recommendation for anyone even thinking about getting into the wild and woolly business of modeling.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Godsend for ANY Model, Seasoned, New, or Aspiring.
This book is truly THE BEST book currently available for people who want an informed and in depth view of the modeling industry. It's eloquently written, yet in a simple enough manner that ANYONE can understand it.The beauty of it is that most books target fashion models or another specific subset of people in the modeling industry.Roger's book is for everyone.Whether you're a curious aspiring model, a relatively new model to the industry, or a seasoned professional, this book can help you.Whether you're a fashionista, a commercial model, the face of a beauty campaign, a child model, older model, glamour model, art model, internet model--this book can help YOU.Also parents and significant others that form the support network for a model, this can give you a very honest glimpse into the industry that your child or significant other works in.

It will tell how to get from point A to point B and meet your goals without taking a bunch of detours or getting sidetracked along the way. This is a TOUGH business to work in, no doubt. But there are a few sources out there that can really tell you exactly what you need to do to meet your goals. This book is one of them.It gives you an honest look into an industry that most sources candycoat and leave important parts out of.If you want a reference tool that truly tells it like it is and will help you, buy this book.I guarantee you won't regret it.
