The volume contains, in clear print, 9 wind concerti (and Andante for Flute, K.315): Bassoon (K.191), Flute & Harp (K.299), Flute (K.313 & 314),Horn (K.412, 417, 447, 495), Clarinet (K.622). A good buy.

It is not the right way to present a book like this.
In presenting a musical score the reader or potencial buyer has to be aware of the works included in it. Nothing has been said about the concertos included (or excluded) and it is very hard to make a decision (to buy or not to buy) based upon such un incomplete information. ... Read more

Make a recorder!
I agree with Peter's view of this book. I have read several specialist-oriented pieces on recorder-making and became convinced I wouldn't ever have the right tools to try to make a recorder. With this book for encouragement I'm going to try to make a few. I would rank this book up with my other favorite flute-making book, Woodwind Instruments from PVC by John Edfors.

Both practical and inspiring
A superb little book that contains an immense amount of genuine practical knowledge, well written and charmingly illustrated. Some people may find the unconventional methods for hollowing the bore of the instrument a little strange, but the account of making and refining all the critical elements of the head joint is excellent. Making a good recorder takes a lot of experience but this book is a very good starting point. If I had to recommend just one book on the subject, this would be it.

Since I wrote and illustrated this book I feel qualified to review it.I don't know how to enter a description in the above area so this will have to serve instead.Of course I gave myself 5 stars :-)

My book is aimed at making these flutes without the need to have expensive custom tools made by a machine shop.All tools are either home made (with a file and hardware items) or are common woodworking/shop tools.So you can make one or two of these without investing a lot of money.The technique applies to any size but only the popular soprano pattern in included because it's the best place to start.Many of the techniques have a sort of "old world" flavor.(I made my first recorder on a wooden lathe.)You can even make one without a lathe.... but it's better if you have one of course.

The book is nicely illustrated (pen & ink) and done in an old fashioned style to go along with the hand techniques.It looks like a book you'd buy at Williamsburg.It's very practical, detailed and complete with a lot of information on proper tool grinding/sharpening and tricks for doing things various ways so you dont need things like lamp augers etc..Making a recorder is not easy (maybe too challenging for kids) but with the book and some patience you can probably do it.It's not like making a book shelf.Certain aspects do take some practice but eventually you will get it.You can make a recorder in a couple evenings once you have it down.
