5-0 out of 5 stars Have Allergies? You can eat out safe!
A friend of mine has several food allergies and has always been concerned about eating away from home.I got her this book and she is much more confident when going out to eat.Let's Eat Out! is a great resource to help you learn how foods are prepared and what to ask when ordering your meal.I highly recommend this book!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for anyone with celiac/food allergies!
Having a close friend recently diagnosed with celiac disease, this book is exactly what she needed! In the past we enjoyed many meals together until she was diagnosed. The Let's Eat Out! book has helped her to start eating out again and to enjoy her meals while being safe. The book helped her learn about hidden ingredients along with some surprises of where gluten and/or wheat may be included in specific cuisines. She also found resourceful information on how to communicate with the wait staff and even a reference to a gluten-free website that includes local restaurants in the area that have gluten-free options. We also both think its great that the book is broken down by cuisines especially since Italian which we get all the time. I even purchased her a couple of the passports so she can bring them along in her purse when eating out. Overall a wonderful resource for anyone with celiac disease and/or food allergies that wants to enjoy eating out confidently.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing book!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Required Reading for Food Allergy and Gluten-Free Diets!
This book is a "Must-have" for anyone who needs to follow a Gluten-free or Wheat-free diet. Ms. Dumke takes the mystery out of cooking for food allergies. This resource is for the "newbie" to food allergies, as well as those who have been doing it for some time. I have been wheat-free for 18 years, and yet I learned some pointers and hints.

Everyone embarking on a diet for food allergies is initially overwhelmed. I wish this book had been available years ago when I first went wheat, egg and dairy free. It is easy to understand and provides numerous resources for alternative products and ingredients. Recently I have developed more food allergy issues, and the discussions of alternative grains was very helpful to me.

A novice cook will appreciate that the recipes are uncomplicated and easy to follow. The more experienced cook will appreciate the variety of choices and options for alternative foods. The book is both a primer on food allergies and a cookbook. If you have been told you need to follow a gluten-diet, or know someone who has, this is required reading!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for multiple food allergies & Mom who's not a great cook
This book is an extremely useful resource, especially for someone like me who doesn't cook much and who discovered she has a kid with multiple food allergies (by multiple, I mean soy, wheat, oats, corn, rice, buckwheat, cow's milk, egg, some fish, peanuts, shrimp and multiple insensitivities like several fruits, meats, vegetables, gluten).I had no idea what to do for a kid who was allergic to what I perceived to be all grains! This book has helped me think through all of that, providing thorough explanations of many food alternatives and many recipes that I can use, as well as ways to save time and ingredient descriptions. Yes, there are many alternatives to the above grains which are described and used in the book. The recipes have enough variety to be rotated as well. The author provides a thorough review of food ingredients, basic cooking methods, and places to get the special ingredients for the recipes. Many recipes don't have special ingredients -- I forgot that I could grill some fish and some veggies for my kid (yes, my cooking brain cells are that challenged), but here it is in the book! The change to cooking/feeding a kid with multiple allergies is not easy, but this book made even thinking about it so much easier.I can actually do this!

I have to say, we did start from a position of cooking for someone (me) who is allergic to cow's milk and wheat so had a head start in knowing how to exclude those two foods. Still, I was intimidated by the task of excluding a bunch of foods for my daughter.I think one thing also to keep in mind when cooking/eating for a multiple food allergies is that you are going to have to get used to foods that taste different or have different textures than what you are used to.I'm glad to see so much yummy stuff (muffins! cookies! yay!)in this book.

The book has a lot of explanations and references (Why this diet, Eating out, Bringing food in, time savers, baking with ease, using commercially prepared foods, special resources and sources for ingredients, products, and services, helpful books and web sites, spelt vs. wheat debate, safe food-handling practices, and an index to recipes by grain use).I would also recommend looking at "The Ultimate Food Allergy Cookbook and Survival Guide" by the same author.I think this book (Allergy and Celiac Diets with Ease)is better to start with if you have small kids, because the recipes seem more appealing to kids.

Product Description
This book will help people find what foods are causing their distress and/or allergy problem. It is a handbook, an allergy detection book and a cookbook all in one. What initiated this book was the fact that none of the elimination diets at the time took into account that many individuals could not digest soluble fats. Also all the diets were in food form, without any instruction on how to include these foods into meals. This book uses the menu method to detect problem foods, which makes it unique. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Step by Step Self Help AT LAST!!
Food to Some, Poison to Others: The Food Allergy Detection Program by Terry Traub and David E. Allen If you have problems with indigestion, rashes, sneezing, or other discomforts it may be due to food allergies. These are very difficult to identify because we do not eat isolated foods but many ingredients mixed together. This book details how you can cure yourself by identifying the foods that make you feel ill.It is an arduous process that required discipline while you are identifying the culprits, but the rewards of feeling good again are worth it. This book tells you what you can eat and what you must eliminate during the identifying process and tells you step-by-step how to go about the task. Unless you suffer you will not be willing to go through this process, but if you are one of the millions of allergy sufferers, this is a priceless guide of how to cure yourself. It works! and it IS worth the effort. This book is the best yet in how to go about the process. You CAN do it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource!
I have reviewed this book and feel it is an excellent resource for anyone trying to detect a possible cause of undiagnosed digestive problems. So many people today run the gauntlet with over-the-counter and prescribed medications without taking personal responsibility to determine if they have a food allergy. Ms. Traub's book provides detailed information on food allergies and guides the reader through a series of simple tests, using daily menu suggestions, including delicious recipes.

I noted a previous reviewer questioning some items which did not ring true, so I decided to check her claims. The author, Ms. Traub, states early in the book that all ingredients used in her detection program need to be organic.Using organic products should negate remarks about vegetable wax, as most organic growers do not allow pesticides or any coating on their fruits and vegetables. The negative reviewer had the most issues with corn; I checked the FDA on corn and it is not a recognized allergen.I understand that there may be folks out there with rare corn allergies, however the false cries of danger definitely detract from the the benefits provided in this book. On a personal note, I recently had opportunity to try the cured turkey, which was in fact one of the most delicious dishes I've ever tasted.Curing is a method of preserving food with salt, not corn.I will never cook a turkey without the curing/brining Ms. Traub recommends. My congratulations to Ms. Traub for providing her expertise in helping many with food allergy issues.I'm looking forward to checking out her web site, which I understand will have informational updates and holiday recipes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Be your own food allergy detective
In the book "Food to some poison to others" it has invaluable information in finding reasons you may have undiagnosed symptoms. It may even help in easing or curing you from horrific pain. This author has done our research for us in finding allery-causing food groups.
I highly recommend this book to those who want to improve the way they feel and not sure where to start. So many of us have food allergies and don't realize it.I have IBS and this book has been a great help to me. And the delightful recipes are a big help in coping too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tasteful and Creative
'Food for some poison to others' is a practical and useful guide for today's cooks. It addresses food allergies that now seem to be plaguing a great many of our population.I have used many of the recipes and have found them to be nutritional, flavorful and creative. They are great for anyone even those without food allergies.

1-0 out of 5 stars Information is suspect
I concur with the "DANGER! Not remotely CORN free!" review. The excerpts I examined that purported to be corn-free recipes were nothing of the sort. A sign of utter negligence on behalf of the authors and publishers. Although I haven't examined the rest of the content in the book, and although the non-corn-related recipes may actually be allergen-free, their failure to adequately and thoroughly research corn allergies and corn-free recipes prior to publication makes the entire book suspect. Proceed with extreme caution!!! ... Read more

This book has been an absolute lifeline for me! I was recently asked to follow the genotype diet in order to diagnose some health issues that I'm having. The first few days I was really discouraged, not quite knowing how to tackle such extreme changes to my diet.

Then I remembered that I had this book, and although it doesn't follow my diet exactly, because it avoids most major allergens I am able to take the basic recipes and apply them to my situation. I have gone from feeling hopeless to at least feeling like I have a guide to get me started.

In addition to recipes, the book has helpful hints about which products to buy and even where to get them. It has saved me hours of research and been an incredible encouragement to me. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Treasure Trove Of Information
In the author's lasted installment of books and cookbooks to rescue the many folks out there who suffer from food related illnesses, (allergies, sensitivities, intolerances or malabsorptions)this one is a tresure trove of valuable information, tips, tricks and suggestions. For many years I have been recovering from food sensitivities that have contributed to migraine headaches, muscle and joint pain, and hormone imbalance.
I have searched for one book that could rescue me and the patients I see in an Environmental Medicine practice. Patients have asked me so many times I can't count, "Is there a book I can buy that will help me understand all this"? Here is the answer we have all been looking for!!
Including tips on money saving shopping, internet resources, and just her own ingenuity, Ms. Dumke leads the pack in cutting edge information. This book is great for the "seasoned cook" like myself who has thrown out a few meals in her day because they just didn't taste good. Or the novice who doesn't really love to cook but have found themselves in the position of having to change their diet and lifestyle in order to regain their health. I have already recommended this book and will continue to do so.
I will also use it as a helpful tool in my own kitchen. Ms. Dumkes' personal experience in the complicated area of food allergy makes this book REAL!!!
