5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for learning the basics of fantasy football!
For every beginner out there who is floundering in your league and doesn't have a clue what the different league types are or what the rules are for ff, buy this book! It will help you learn the basics, enjoy the games more, and it might actually help you win this year...I will just add that it is about time that this type of fantasy football "how-to guide" was published! This would make a great gift for all those novices in your league too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally a fantasy football book for beginners!
If you've ever wondered what FF is, why people are playing it, and how to get started yourself - this is the book for you! Sam Hendricks has taken the "basics" of fantasy football and broken it down into easy to understand chapters that are fun to read. He covers everything from the NFL and FF rules to draft tips and also includes important resources for help. This is a great book to learn how to play ff and should be required reading for the beginners in your league.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect book for anyone starting to play Fantasy Football for first time!
I bought this as a gift for a friend who is playing FF for the first time this year. I skimmed through it myself and read many parts of it. I wish there was a book like this when I started playing. It has everything a beginner needs to play and play well. It really is the perfect gift for someone who wants to learn the easy way to play Fantasy football

The chapters on scoring systems, how do I prepare for the draft and who do I start each week are priceless. Those three chapters alone will prevent 90% of the rookie mistakes many people make when learning to play FF.

One note: if you already play FF you may get a few tips from this book but you are better off getting one of the authors other books (I have all of them). Fantasy Football Tips: 201 Ways to Win Through Player Rankings, Cheat Sheets and Better Drafting is great and anyone can learn from it. Fantasy Football Guidebook: Your Comprehensive Guide to Playing Fantasy Football (2nd Edition) is for the advanced FFer.

Product Description
For one man, football is more than just a fantasy...

As seen on ESPN's Cold Pizza

Fantasy football -- one of America's most popular, and profitable, virtual pastimes -- became a way of life for sports humorist and author Mark St. Amant. Utterly fed up with never having won his league championship, St. Amant abandoned a successful advertising career to make fantasy football his full-time job, embarking on a sprawling reconnaissance mission to discover what really makes this game, and its 20 million players, tick. Committed is the result of St. Amant's ranting, relentless, and strategic pursuit of his own obsession.

In this wickedly funny and deeply informative work, St. Amant offers readers an all-access sideline pass to his wild, unprecedented fantasy football season, and to the hobby itself. From its humble beginnings in a New York hotel in 1962 to a multibillion-dollar business today, from local and online leagues to high-stakes, cutthroat Las Vegas competitions, St. Amant lays bare the facts, figures, and fanaticism of fantasy football in all its multidimensional glory. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Committed, Confessions of a Fantasy Football Junkie
This book arrived in a prompt manner and it was in excellent condition. It contained good tips for fantasy football players.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very funny. I loved it
In May for my birthday I received several fantasy football books as gifts. This was one of them. Most dealt with playing fantasy football and how to do it better and all of them were great, but "Committed" was different. It is more a humorous story of the fantasy football year, not necessarily a "How to" book.
It was hilarious. I laughed out loud so many times my wife asked what was so funny. Then she wanted to read it and although she did not enjoy it as much as I did; I think she appreciated this "fantasy football thing" more after reading it.
This truly is a great and memorable review for anyone that has played FF<

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Read
This book captures everything that makes fantasy football great. It is written in an engaging, down-to-earth style and is funny as hell.Just reading it brings back memories of my 20 years in fantasy football leagues.

Great read!

4-0 out of 5 stars The emotions of fantasy
Very funny combination of history, investigation, and how-to book about fantasy football.St. Amant captures the intensity and comradery of fantasy football.

More vulgar than it needs to be, funnier than it should be.Made me laugh out loud and nod knowingly when he touched on the emotions of fantasy (football, that is).

5-0 out of 5 stars For the Fantasy Football Fan
As someone who started playing Fantasy Football in 1992 and has not missed a season since, I have lived through many of the same things as the writer. My first question is how did he get his wife to let him take a year off jsut to play fantasy football? He is one lucky guy. I have also learned that it doesn't matter how much research. etc. you do sometimes it's just plain luck.
If you play or want to play fantast football this book will give you an idea of what it's like. ... Read more

Product Description
Before the Super Bowl, before "Monday Night Football," even before the NFL, there was Red Grange. Catapulted into the public eye in 1924 by scoring four touchdowns in twelve minutes for the University of Illinois, the "Galloping Ghost" went on to a trailblazing career as a professional player, Hollywood football idol, and broadcaster. He ranked with Babe Ruth and Jack Dempsey in the 1920s as the most heralded figures in America's "golden age of sport," and when Sports Illustrated did a special issue in 1991 on the greatest moments in sports, Grange was selected for the cover.

Grange's star rose in tandem with that of the sport itself. His spectacular performance as a college player coincided with football's evolution into a rallying point of university life, undergirded by post-World War I money, cars, roads, stadiums, and mass media. With a natural talent and down-home image that helped legitimize professional football, Grange became one of the first athlete-heroes and the first major sports figure to serve as a play-by-play broadcast commentator.

John Carroll depicts the career of this softspoken pioneer who helped lift pro football above its reputation as "a dirty little business run by rogues and bargain-basement entrepreneurs." A reluctant celebrity and folk hero, Red Grange stood throughout his life as a symbol of older, rural American values: an unpretentious self-made individual making a mark in a society increasingly controlled by machines, vast corporations, and stifling bureaucracies. His story is an essential element in understanding football's central place in American culture.Amazon.com Review
Red Grange was one of the certified heroes of an era that produced the anchors to any sporting hall of fame--Babe Ruth, Jack Dempsey, Bill Tilden, Bobby Jones--but Red Grange and the Rise of Modern Football is no simple exercise in hero-worship. A professor of history at Lamar University, John M. Carroll works to put Grange in perspective against the backdrop of an amazing era--the '20s--and tackle the Galloping Ghost's myth. Still, in Grange's case, the myth remains awfully impressive.

A true superstar, Grange was a reluctant idol, letting his actions speak for him. In an era before big athletic scholarships, Grange paid for his education by delivering ice in the summer, a job that made him stronger than most of the defense men he'd regularly bowl over. As a junior at Illinois, Grange secured his legend with an inconceivable performance against Michigan, running for four touchdowns in the first 12 minutes. Before the final gun sounded--Carroll recounts this, and other games in glorious detail--Grange had added a fifth score on the ground, passed for a sixth, racked up a ridiculous 402 rushing yards on the day, and cemented his reputation. Post college, his all-American drawing power and singular brilliance on the field virtually saved the struggling young NFL; Carroll is quite thorough in his examination of the fledgling league and its odor of "a dirty little business run by rogues." Yet, despite all the fame and celebrity, a flirtation with Hollywood, and a respected post-playing career in the radio booth and various businesses, Grange never escaped his heartland unpretentiousness; he always seemed to know who he was and how he got that way. "I could run," he once said, "and that was the basis of any success I ever had." Because he ran so well, of course, that success evolved into a full-blown legend worthy of Carroll's scrupulous and absorbing examination. --Jeff Silverman ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Book
It was interesting to read about the early days of college football and the origins of some of the rules we have now about kids leaving early. The book is a little dry though - kind of like reading a history textbook at times.

5-0 out of 5 stars When Humility Still Mattered
This book does a great job of giving interesting detail and thoughtful perspective so you can see how an individual fit into the times and how the events of the single life mirrored the larger developments in society. You learn a lot about football, about men of that era and what character traits they valued, and about the role of the media and it's use of celebrity to create an audience.I enjoyed this so much I bought another Carroll book on a different early football hero - Fritz Pollard - and that is just as informative and insightful.

3-0 out of 5 stars Engaging story of pioneer on, off the field
This is a readable, well-researched book. Carroll tells how Grange rose tobecome one of America's first true superstars and how he left school earlyto join the then-disrespected ranks of pro football. While scholarly, afeeling for a truly humble man shines through.

5-0 out of 5 stars Red Grange is Number One!
My father always talked about Red Grange.I never really knew who he was. Thisbook brings everything into perspective. Mr. Carroll captures the essence of Red Grange, but more than that, he makes clear why Grange wasthe most important college player of this century and how he created themomentum which led to the explosion of pro football ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Quick intro
This is good quick primer but if you have already purchased a few other books, there's no need for this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
I'm new to coaching PeeWee Football and have a pedestrian knowledge of the sport. This will definitely help you with drills and practice to develop fundementals that the kids will need as they progress to their next level.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic resource for new coaches
When the role of acting as head football coach unexpectedly fell in my lap this season, I bought ASEP's Coaching Youth Football and I can't speak highly enough about it. The misgivings cited by previous reviewers predate this book's 2005 release date and don't seem at all warranted for the 4th Edition.

This book provided me with the nuts and bolts needed to get things rolling from Day One - from plans on how best to structure the first two weeks of practice to promoting teamwork and encouraging fun. The drills and tactics addressed apply well to the youth game - I'm coaching 10 & 11 year olds - but the book also provides background on communicating with parents and planning for safety.

I've found it to be a very complete reference that's worth picking up throughout the season. Very good. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not very candid or hard-hitting
I thought this book was moderately interesting.I was expecting each of these executives to discuss challenges they've faced and how they've overcome them, but instead they mainly talked of how difficult it is to sell tickets and how they're lucky to have such great fans in their city.I was not enthralled with the book but there were a few interesting points in it.If you're new to the business of sports, this book will cover many different angles to help you understand what's out there. 5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful
I found the guide to be very useful in determining the value of my card collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beckett Card Guide
The publication turned out to be a gem, especially as a guide for the early football cards. Highly recommend this guide.

5-0 out of 5 stars "The Bible"
My title is not taken in vain. Beckett's is the essential authority on the subject of football sports cards. Released updated every year it provides the latest price information required to maintain either one's collection or inventory. Eric

4-0 out of 5 stars One Of The Most Comprehensive Guides On The Market
The Beckett Guides are the most popular guides in the world, bar none. And what I've always liked about Beckett is the depth of information contained in his guides. With this one, you get listings of sets from as far back as the late 1800's to 2001. Now please note before I go any further, if you buy this guide and by chance your card or set is not listed, it does not mean your card(s) are worthless, it simply means that what you have may not currently be receiving alot of market activity, or may be a card or cards that aren't currently known to exist. You must realize there are virtually thousands of sets on the market and newer ones coming out every week by various companies, so it is almost impossible to keep up with every one produced. So Beckett concentrates on sets that are both known to exist and have heavy market activity. Oh and one more thing, if you have rubber bands around your cards, please get rid of them. Go to your local card shop or go online and get some card holders. Condition is a key element in a cards worth, and rubber bands can cause severe damage to cards. Now, as for this book, Beckett has sets listed in ABC order and lists the individual cards of the set. So if you are putting together a set, and you see yours listed in this guide, you have the perfect checklist to keep up with what you do and do not have. For each set listed, there's a little bit of information included, and there may be production numbers included in the trivia. Beckett shows you how to collect, how to preserve your cards, how to determine condition, shares football card terminology, and has other interesting facts about football card collecting. Ahh to go to a game and load up on hotdogs. Collecting football cards brings me back to the time when I was in high school and went to the games to pull for my home team (and yes, I ate a lot of hot dogs then too). Collecting football cards make me think about the times when me and my dad would watch a game together, screaming at the players to run run run. So as I'm sure you already know, collecting football cards for most people is more than just an investment. And when I look through this Beckett guide, I see lots of cards that came out when I was younger, and they bring me back to a time(The late 60's, The 70's, and early 80's) when playing football was one of the things I loved to do the most. Beckett guides have remained the most sought after guides since the 80's and are used the world over. Some of the brands of cards you will find in this edition include Fleer, Upper Deck, Topps, Score, Playoff, and Donruss. Again, there are many other brands listed in the guide, but these are some of the most heavily traded ones. This book is a valuable tool for any true football card collector.

4-0 out of 5 stars You could wait until next year but.......
I needed a new price guide and I wanted a very recent one.I figured I could wait until 2001 but I desided I would get it now(this guide is great quality and has all of my cards listed in itand I have tons of cards!). ... Read more

This player, like many, had his ankle tape applied over the outside of his shoes instead of inside, which obviously covered the shoe logo. And he was drawing the logo of his shoe contract on the tape."Wouldn't it be easier," I asked him, "to get taped inside and not have to do the artwork?"Yeah, it would," he replied, "but then I'd actually have to wear their damn shoes, and I hate 'em. 3-0 out of 5 stars Very basic
I was not really sure how many stars to give this book. It is not bad if you don't know anything about football. I stress that you must have zero understanding to get anything out of this book. If that is the case you will probably enjoy this and learn a lot.But I don't think the editorial reviews tell you how basic this book is. I was hoping to increase my understanding of things like Cover 3 and the Wildcat and instead got a book that was meant for people that don't know what to call the guy who throws the ball or what 1st and Ten means. Too sum up for me this book was a one star but for my wife it is probably worth 5 if I can ever get her to read it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Six Stars!!
As a 50 something housewife who remembers the first superbowl and has watched friends and family play
competitive football for decades, I was surprised by how much I learned from and enjoyed this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Increased my enjoyment of football 1000%
Like most guys, I thought I knew about football - how could you watch most every Sunday, Monday, and Thursday and not think that? But A Sportscaster's Guide to Watching Football took the games from fun to fascinating.Mark Oristano includes the basics, player positions, etc, but then goes on to explain what it is they're doing, and why.The first chapter starts with a description of the winning touchdown pass in Super Bowl XLII, Giants vs Patriots. It's a play we've all seen a thousand times (yawn, pass the potato chips), but when Oristano analyzes who's really doing what, and what they had to do to get there, the play becomes a riveting lesson in sports strategy.

The whole book opens up knowledge about how to understand the game, but more importantly, as the title says, it teaches you how to WATCH the game. Why do most fans look at the wrong thing when the ball is snapped? How can you tell what play is going to be run just before it happens? What does it mean when your favorite quarterback gets "happy feet?"

In addition to enlightening us about the game, Oristano has a career full of hilarious "time outs," like "cool things to say during the game", and tales of what players do to live with this intense and sometimes crazy game. One of my favorites was the conversation with a nameless linebacker drawing a fake logo on his shoes, since he didn't like the ones he was being paid to endorse.

Along the way, there is also a multitude of behind the scenes stories that give you an immense respect for the grit, dedication, and yes, intelligence of the people who play the game.

There's another great benefit to this book - it's fun to read especially for the "sort of" fan (probably your spouse) who's watching the game just because you are.Give this book to her (or him), and all of a sudden - everyone's a fan.

Thanks Mark - waiting for volume two!

4-0 out of 5 stars Recruiting the Latent Fan in Everyone
Mark Oristano has done us a great favor in laying out and explaining the basics of an already beautiful and accessible game so that we can make it more so.What's even better is that Oristano's easy going conversational style makes the book delightful and smooth to read. His stream of consciousness is not so tight as to remind one of reading technical journals; it is lubricated by parenthetical wise cracks, the occasional pun, and a self depreciating style.

To keep the main text on track without too many tangents, Oristano has intentionally placed a lot of his best material into sidebars. One class of sidebars is labeled "Cool Thing to Say During the Game".This may or may not be directly helpful depending upon how self-confident you are.(Remember, Mark Oristano is a professional actor as well; he's far more comfortable delivering lines when he doesn't have the slightest idea of what he's actually saying than you and I would be!)But indirectly, these canned comments will prove to be very helpful to the new fan.Trust me - someone nearby will say exactly what Oristano has written. When one of these old bromides, like "They put pointy ends on the football just so it will make those funny bounces!", is passed around and it will be as familiar and comfortable to you as it is to everyone else

My favorite sidebars are the one's labeled "Time Out". This is where Oristano's sportscaster heritage really shows through. Most of them are first person accounts of some funny or poignant encounter that he's had with professional football players or their coaches. My personal favorite is the speech given to rookies every summer by Gene Stallings, long time defensive secondary coach for Tom Landry's Cowboys.I dare not say more for fear of ruining it for you. The poignant "Time Outs" typically deal with the injuries and the players' responses to them and they serve to point out to the new fan just how fast, strong and tough the players in the NFL really are.

A Sportscaster's Guide to Watching Football is a quick, smooth read.It will prove to be a great way to introduce latent fans to the game.As such it should enjoy a very large, but specific audience. It will prove to be a disappointment to any who buy it for any other reason. This book gives good value to the reader who wants to make the game more accessible to someone they care about and with whom they wish to enjoy the Sunday, Monday or Thursday Night game. ... Product Description
No single element or ingredient has the power to absolutely define the lasting enchantment of Oklahoma football. Decades of great successes and occasional heartbreak have spawned generations of faithful disciples, who treat fall Saturdays like sacred holidays dedicated to their heroes donning the crimson and cream. Tales from the Sooner Sidelines provides a glimpse, often with a behind-the-scenes perspective, into the tradition surrounding Oklahoma football. Dozens of stories and details describe the individual and team triumphs that commenced with the hiring of legendary coach Bud Wilkinson and continue into the new millennium. Tales from the Sooner Sidelines spans the careers of the Big Three -- Wilkinson, Barry Switzer and Bob Stoops -- whose respective programs have accounted for seven national championships over the last five decades. Here are stories from OU greats such as Pop Ivy, Tommy McDonald, Eddie Crowder, Billy Vessels, Prentice Gautt, Joe Don Loone!y, Granville Liggins, Steve Owens, Greg Pruitt, the Selmon brothers, Billy Sims, Joe Washington, Brian Bosworth, Keith Jackson, Thomas Lott, Roy Williams, Josh Heupel, Rocky Calmus and many, many more. The color and pageantry of game days unfolds within these pages, complete with sideline antics, dramatic insight and the poetry that is Oklahoma football. ... Read more

Total Football is the ultimate football reference, the most exhaustivelycomplete tome of football knowledge available on the market, and theheaviest, too. Within its 1,652 pages are articles on football history, strategy, leagues, and the men who made the game. But the real meat andpotatoes of the encyclopedia are its player register and team rosters, which include complete statistics on every individual who's played even a singlegame in the NFL. Rounded out with appendices that cover NFL rules, stadiums, and game scores from 1920 to 1996, this volume will flex the bicepsand warm the heart of any true football fan. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Total Football II
By far the best of the "encyclopedia" type sports publications. All players in the history of the league are listed with career stats and info on each. Year by year team records are included. The best reference for fans who play sports simulation games and are interested in the statistics of the players who performed in the pre-merger era. The football edition, to my knowledge, is the only one with the year and career stats of all of the players in league history. The "Who's Who" of football. I can't praise this book enough, excellent.

2-0 out of 5 stars No Way
I have all of the 4 major sports books of the Total package. These stats were increddibally incomplete like they show no tackles stats. I know tackles are not an official stat but there are sources like with the Negro leagues in baseball that show the stats. I liked the part about the Top 300 players to 1998. The Draft had all of the picks but I wish they would have who the top players were in each draft like the hockey one.
I thought this book was okay it had some good stats but is no where near Hockey-Baseball-Basketball versions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Some people want magic
For those of you who are looking for every NFL player - even those who never played a game - I suggest rubbing a magic bottle and hoping for a genie, because that'll be the only way you'll find that information. It simply doesn't exist.

While some bellyache that the statistical information isn't organized and re-printed 30 different times in every discernable way, they don't understand that this book is almost 2000 pages long.Repeating all of that information AGAIN would involve hundreds, if not thousands, of additional pages.

Total Football II is by far and away the most complete statistical reference there ever was.No, there are no indexes of high schools or longest punt returns or pre-season, third-stringer touchdown records, but please! This book contains every important stat available.

The articles are written by people with centuries of cumulative years of experience covering and writing about the NFL.Even though your favorite game may not be listed, I can assure you that you probably haven't seen as many as the great writers who created this book did.Keep that in mind before you criticize them for not including Billie Joe Tolliver in their 300 greatest players segment.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's OK
If you're expecting the football equivalent of Total Baseball, you'll be disappointed. The text articles are superficial and unimpressive. For example, while Total Baseball has articles on Japanese baseball, Total Football does not discuss Canadian football. Total Baseball discusses the history of black baseball players, but Total Football does not do the same for black football players.

But perhaps I am being harsh in comparing Total Football to something as canonical as Total Baseball. Total Football has been an invaluable reference. It has statistics on every NFL, AFL and AAFC player (no comprehensive playoff stats, though); team statistics dating to 1920; and scores and attendence (where available) for every game played. The book even lists players' high schools, although unfortunately it does not have an index of high schools. For stats junkies like me, the book is a lot of fun.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good reference
Don't expect to find a football book you can use exclusively from the rest. This is a good supplement to books like "The Pro Football Encyclopedia" (by Maher/Gill).If you're into statistics this is one of the best to have.Whereas "Pro Football Encyclopedia" has players longest gains, which this book doesn't, this book gives you kickoff and punt return stats for all players, the encyclopedia doesn't.This book is mainly about the NFL.I bought it for the statistics. It's also a good book to use if you want to find out more about a specific player (statistically speaking).Chapters like "The 25 Most Memorable Regular Season Games" and "The 300 Greatest Players" etc.. are not what I got this book for.I would prefer a book that leaves out author's opinions.I've seen games I'll never forget that I knew wouldn't make the list and also players.Although these chapters are somewhat interesting along with others I could live without half this book easily but like I said, it's a good season by season individual stat book that has information other books don't. It mainly depends on what you're buying this book for. There are statistics here excluded from other books but there are stats left out that ARE in other books, like blocked punts for instance, which may not seem to matter to most, but it all depends on what you're buying it for.It has stats other books don't, that's what I bought it for. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have
This book covers all aspects of the game from the very best college coaches - Paterno, Bowden, Spurrier, etc. Each 'chapter' is about three pages long;a coach diagrams a play for you and tells you the philosophy behind it. It has excellent illustrations.I have used it as a resource for years. The only downside is the book has been on the market for many years now, so the Spread Offenses we have seen so much of in the past several years are not part of the book. This book covers offense, defense, and special teams. As a former high school and college coach I can attest it will work for both those levels of football.

1-0 out of 5 stars Big Disappointment...
This book was a BIG disappointment. I bought this book hoping to learn the strategies behind each type of different offense, how to run the system, different formations and looks to fool the defense, pretty much more in-depth information but this book offers none of that. This book is the most BASIC piece of crap ever. It looks like a bunch of piled up madden plays put together in a bind and sold as a book. It gives about 3 BASIC plays for each different offense. There's about a 3 page maximum length per different offensive system which vaguely touches upon the surface of each offensive system, so you won't really know why you're running it except that you're running it. For example, one of the first plays the book touches upon is the I-Formationand Toss right or Student body right. Like I said before, very basic and won't help much if you're a coach trying to expand your knowledge on football. This is my first and will be my last purchasing a book by AFCA and had I known AFCA made books this bad, I would've never bought it :)

Some of you might say "What about beginning coaches?" I'd still say no because this book doesn't explain anything to where you can understand why a certain play is drawn up that way and once your players asks you "Coach, why are we doing this?" It's going to make you do the shoulder shrug and look/feel dumb.

But for a good read, I recommend "Coaching the T-Bone Offense" by Al Baldock. I hope to find a book of that caliber to read because the difference is once you read a book like that, you'll feel like you know the system inside and out.

5-0 out of 5 stars coachingstrategies
An excellent book. A must read for experienced or inexperienced coaches, or just someone who would like to get a different slant on the game. I have no regrets in the purchase of this book. Very informative.

4-0 out of 5 stars Beyond the X's and O's
Of the numerous football guides I've read, this is the firstbook that actually went beyond the X's and O's of football. As the title says, it not only discusses the on-field game, but also preparation, team building, and the mental side of the game.

This book touches interesting topics and is probably intended for giving some more food for thought and different angles on coaching issues. It is not exactly a DIY-manual or a literal step-by-step gude for all football coaches on how to build a successful team.

While some of the chapters are a bit academic and subject to cross your personal views, this book is a recommended especially for those who are just starting their coaching career or coach youth and junior football.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Coaching Reference
A book that any coach should have.It gets the wheels going in your mind allowing you to develop new schemes. Its interesting to read other famous coach's ideas on topics like the Double Wing, Passing from your own endzone, and using the 50 front. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Could be improved, but well worth it!
The premise etc behind this book is excellent. However, the many black and white photos tell the likely reader of book very little. This should not take away though from the solid advice, work-out plans, bits and pieces of commonsense training, diet etc, and the seasonal/periodicity themes that make this book very worthwhile.Although I have not the experience nor credentials that Mr. Smith and many of you have, I recommend taking the themes of this book and expanding in more detail, and ditching the numerous b&w still photos that really tell an exerciser little about the movements. If anything, provide photos of important do's and don'ts of the exercises, but don't half-change the movement with a photo to fill the pages.Other than this opinion, I found the book an excellent addition to my fitness literature and plan on incorporating its ideas into my own routines.

2-0 out of 5 stars book
The routines in this book are soo random and lengthy a simpler more effective approach could be used.his navy seal book was better

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Workout!
I wanted to find a workout that I could stick with all year that is challenging and takes my body to new heights in terms of physical strength, endurance, and agility.Though I've only been on the program for a few weeks, I can already see these three aspects changing.

The workout starts normally enough, but gets tough fast.Fortunately Stew has made it flexible enough so that anyone can do it: from the hardcore wanna-be Navy SEAL to the dedicated guy who wants to get in shape.Complete with a full explanation of exercises, the full year-round routine, and even nutritional advice, Stew's book is a great find for those who want to find one good exercise program to stick with for a long time!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Must have for 35yr olds with prior exercise experience who want to get back in shape.

5-0 out of 5 stars Effective and Flexible
I've had this book since it came out and I am still recommending it to people. The work-outs can be adjusted for different fitness levels but they will take you as far as you want to go. You can't really outgrow this book.
I like the way it is broken up into phases- strength, cardio- this is better than doing the same mix throughout the year. Stretching and flexibility are not forgotten either.
My beginner friends liked the introduction to pyramiding reps (a good trick to increase puul-up/push-up reps)and the fact that you don't need to be in a gym every day. Quite a lot can be done outdoors or at home.

I run across very few other work out schedules that can be used for such a range of fitness levels. It isn't gimicky or sport specific, it's for all around fitness. ... Read more
