From the supplier: The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) hopes that the coming six month hurricane season and recent California and New York laws will stimulate insurance industry interest in the commodity exchange's insurance futures and options programs. CBOT's program, first established in summer 1992, recorded 8,452 Midwestern catastrophe contracts in the first seven months of 1993. In mid-Jul 1993, Eastern catastrophe insurance options posted a daily volume record of 144. New York and California have passed laws permitting insurers to sell and buy insurance options and futures.
