Hershey, Editor CONTENTS Notes from the Editor A Tribute to Don Wallace Special Report: The Future of Public Plant Breeding Programs Plant Breeding in the News Requests for Information and Collaboration Conferences and Meetings New Books On the Web NOTES FROM THE EDITOR Plant Breeding News is an electronic forum for the exchange of information and ideas about applied plant breeding and related fields. The newsletter is resuming publication after almost a year of inactivity, due to the passing of its founding editor, Dr Don Wallace. It will be published every four to six weeks throughout the year. The newsletter will be managed by the editor and an advisory group consisting of Elcio Guimaraes ( elcio.guimaraes@fao.org ), Margaret Smith mes25@cornell.edu ), and Anne Marie Thro (athro@reeusda.gov). The editor will advise subscribers approximately two weeks ahead of each edition, in order to set deadlines for contributions.
Extractions: n ) has also accelerated. In tandem mass spectrometry experiments, selected ions are decomposed by collisions with gases, photons, electrons or surfaces, and the resulting product ions yield information on subunit sequence, branching (in the case of oligosaccharides or cross-linked proteins) and substituents. Fascinating new areas of MS research include conformational analysis of biopolymers and structural studies of non-covalent complexes, which may be preformed before introduction into the MS ion source, or may be formed between trapped ions. A survey of this rapid growth will be presented, illustrated by examples from current investigations.
