Extractions: This unique and extremely worthwhile conference was held at Tallulah Falls School in Tallulah Falls, Georgia. The Conference agenda was full of information useful to admission directors and boarding school personnel. Topics included common applications, recruitment, advisor/advisee systems and transitioning students from therapeutic programs to the more traditional boarding schools. Most people agreed that this is one of the best conferences they have attended in the whole year. What makes this conference so great is that the conference is casual, intimate, low key and filled with relevance for educational consultants and small boarding school personnel. The Small Boarding School Association began in 1987 with a few educators who gathered at Hoosac School in New York to talk about common concerns for schools with less than 200 boarding students and less than 250 total students. The idea was to have a place to gather where the cost of attendance for small schools could be affordable. In the beginning, attendees stayed in dorms vacated by the students over spring or winter break and all meals were served in the dining room. Nowadays, attendees stay in low cost hotels instead of dorms, but the essence of the conference has not changed.

Please do this in person. An account of one member's visit to Bunker Hill Military School/Camp and an update on that school. My first thought was "oh no, not for a 6 yo." But then I finished reading your post. I know that it sounds like the only way out. Just seek the Lord's face on this one and do what He gives you the peace to do. My heart goes out to you. I don't know how you'll do it; but if the Lord truly wants you to take this step, He will give you the peace, grace, and funds to accomplish it. I do not know anything about boarding schools for ADD/ADHD. But I have a friend who keeps her autistic son in a home with very good results. However, she has had to move him several times to find a suitable program. Her case is very like yours- her son is high IQ, but was dangerous to those around him and to himself. He is not the typical autistic- he is high functioning. He requires 24 hour supervision and a challenging educational program. He understands what is going on in his head now, so he comes home on weekends and extended visits but asks to go back when he feels funny again.

In 1999, at the request of the Government of Georgia and with funding from USAID, Counterpart initiated a project to provide electricity subsidies to vulnerable households and institutions in Georgia. At that time it was expected that newly privatized, local electricity providers would, for the first time, cut service to those households that were unable to pay their bills. This would have a devastating impact on the majority of Georgia's population, already living in poverty and dependent on electricity for home heating. Natural gas, traditionally used for heating in Georgia, has not been available in most of the country since civil unrest broke out in the early-1990's. In the winter of 1999/2000, more than 100,000 households received electricity subsidies totaling $5 million under Counterpart's Georgia Winter Heating Assistance Program (GWHAP). In addition to private households, GWHAP identified and provided subsidies to twenty-two institutions, including orphanages, hospitals and boarding schools, serving more than 2,000 vulnerable children and adults. This type of program not only relieves human suffering, but also aids in the political and economic reform of transition economies. Counterpart works closely with privatized electricity distribution companies, local banks and beneficiaries to ensure subsidies are properly transferred and credited for actual electricity consumed. In addition, Counterpart consults with relevant host government institutions to help develop more appropriate means of identifying vulnerable households and individuals for assistance.
Extractions: Atlanta, Georgia If I could do it all over again, I would have sent my son sooner to Carolina Springs Academy. It was a scary leap of faith and a heart wrenching decision, but he is now so much more confident, honest, strong and wise; a miraculous change from the broken boy that we sent there a year ago. Thank You! Parent
