2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I was personally very disappointed with the book Contemporary Warm Glass by Brad Walker.Based on the other reviews, I was expecting that the book would live up to its' billing as a comprehensive reference guide. The book itself is very unimpressive for the price at only 8mm thick (a little over ¼").The content is very elementary in nature andis definitely geared towards those having little or no knowledge of warm glass. If you are just getting started, this book may be a good addition to your library. However, there are several other books that cover the topic just as well for a lot less money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Contemporary warm glass
Excellent manual - a must for everyone engaged in fusing and slumping - it answers almost all your questions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast shipping and best information available on warm glass
Very fast shipping from seller. The "Contemporary Warm Glass: A Guide to Fusing, Slumping, and Kiln-Forming Techniques" is the bible of warm glass artist. One can just read it from cover to cover or use it as a reference book.I did both!

5-0 out of 5 stars great book
Pros: Very simple to understand, even for me that I am a foreigner.
great deal of information, and good explanations.

Cons: Not very useful in the proyects for people that live outside US or Europe. In latin america, glasses such as Sepctrum are too way expensive, so, proyects are not very aplicable. But this is not authors fault lol!

4-0 out of 5 stars Useful patterns
I have used several patterns from this book with great results.I did make small modifications, but I do that with most patterns! Many of these patterns are quite complex and some involve many, many pieces, but there are also a few that are great for beginners as well.If you are interested in celtic designs, this is the best glass pattern source I have found.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Ideas
This book has some great ideas, but I found the patterns themselvescrudely drawn. The images look like old hand drawn sketches that wereenlarged to fit the page. You could tell where additional lines were addedto allow for reasonable glass cutting, and areas of the patterns thatshould have been symmetrical were not.

I think a title of "CelticStained Glass IDEA Book" would be a more appropriate.I am notcompletely negative about this book.It has some interesting ideas, butjust keep in mind that the pattern will have to be redrafted before gettinga workable "pattern". ... Read more

Product Description
The Glass Industry in Sandwich is a five volume series of books presenting a factual account of glass produced by the glass companies that were located in Sandwich, Massachusetts, between 1825 and 1922. Included are color photos of over 2300 Sandwich glass objects that have been thoroughly researched and authenticated by Sandwich glass experts Raymond E. Barlow and Joan E. Kaiser, who have worked together for twenty-two years. Recognized by the antiques industry as the "Bible" in its field, this magnificent set of books has become a trusted reference used by glass curators of major museums as well as by early American glass collectors, antiques dealers and auctioneers. Each photo is accompanied by dimensions, approximate time of production, and captions that detail methods of manufacture and sources of documentation. Comparisons are made between objects manufactured in Sandwich glass houses and objects produced in foreign and other American factories. Cutware, a General Assortment represents a specialized portion of the fifth and final volume. It features four complete chapters on cut, engraved, and etched glass; an assortment of household and commercial ware; bottles; and a supplement to previously published guides. ... Read more

Product Description

These 60 fresh, attractive projects —easy to paint and with templates—are aimed at the beginner who can’t even draw a straight line. Projects include tableware, barware, garden lights, votives, a clock, and a painted glass door. A gallery of contemporary painted glass will inspire.
Amazon.com Review
Author Paige Gilchrist attributes the current glass-painting craze to the remarkable new materials on the market--an array of water-based paints made especially for permanence on glass, with easy soap-and-water cleanup. Her enthusiasm for the subject and repeated insistence that glass painting is quite simple and very rewarding will entice even absolute beginners into becoming addicted to this colorful craft. The excellent directions, good color photos, and complete pattern templates for the 60 greatly varied projects prove the truth of Gilchrist's assertion: even newcomers can realize great success.

A brief but adequate overview of materials and general techniques sets the stage for a wide range of projects by numerous designers working in a variety of styles. Interestingly, projects are grouped not by item category but by type of decorative motif, so readers can choose from "Spirals," "Swirls," "Squiggles & Dots"; "Florals and Botanicals"; "Geometrics"; "Symbols & Prints"; and "Creatures Great & Small." Everyday objects like glasses, plates, pitchers, bottles, bowls, and vases are transformed into lovely home accessories. There are also some nice surprises in the form of less expected items--tiny, brightly hued vials used as party favors; a frosted-glass, rose-bedecked bathroom set; painted glass doorknobs; a string of party lights; a leopard-print glass clock; and a glass door panel. A gallery of artists' work rounds out this terrific volume. --Amy Handy ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice pictures but not very helpful
I was looking for some inspiration for some more modern glass projects. Something a bit more abstract than the typical pattern books full of flowers and humming birds and this book is about all there is on Amazon on the topic. Unfortunately it is more of a coffee table book that highlights some really large glass installations. Many pictures are stunning but its not very helpful for someone of modest means, time and skill looking to do something for their home.

4-0 out of 5 stars Up-to-date book with excellent illustrations

This volume contains 15 articles reflecting a selection of the author's work on French and English stained glass and related works, addressing questions concerning the original setting of windows in Romanesque and Gothic buildings and of panels now in collections. These studies range from the 12th-century programme of the Abbey of Saint-Denis to the early hagiographical cycles of the Abbey of Fecamp in Normandy and dispersed early 15th-century glass from Herefordshire. Other papers relate to work on specific cathedrals or churches, including a study of the lost vault paintings of the Trinity Chapel at Canterbury Cathedral, and dispersed panels from Soissons Cathedral and Sainte Chapelle, Paris. There is also an overview of the uses made of biblical subjects in 13th-century cycles. ... Read more

Kohler's book is a beautiful compilation of hot glass techniques.Beginning with a brief history of this centuries-old craft, she then discusses various methods of forming hot glass, presenting them first with an artist's appreciation, and then with simple explanations/directions to imitate the featured technique. The book is richly illustrated and inspiring--I found myself marking several pages with technique I wanted to try.

As an artist working in glass, I found this book to be inspiring and informative. The inclusion of many different artists work expressed the diversity of the medium. It also demonstrates how one particular technique can be used to achieve many different expressions.

The technical "recipes," offered in this book are fantastic. They enable one to take an artistic idea, and turn it into reality, with limited experimentation. Sharing this technical information is a brave thing. Thank-You Lucartha Kohler!!!! ... Read more
