4-0 out of 5 stars A good book and great resource
Care of The Domestic Rabbit was a good book as it gave me valuable information on how to care for my bunny. My local vet had heard of Doctor Hayhow and recommended I call him when I saw this book I had to get it.Overall a good book.It is not like those cookie cutter animal books in petco.

1-0 out of 5 stars Strictly for Breeders
If you want info on how to care for your pet rabbit, don't even bother with this book. It's strictly written for breeders, and the medical information is very, very out of date. The pictures are all straight from the American Rabbit Breeders Association poster. This books presumes that you treat rabbits like saleable commodities, rather than as living creatures. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Ferrets ( Animal Planet Pet Care Library )
This book is a must read for anyone who is considering acquiring a ferret, or who has recently acquired a ferret and has questions about how to care for, feed, and keep their ferret safe. There is a lot of information crammed in this small book.My family was new to Ferrets when we purchased this book and it has really helped us become comfortable with our new ferret and how to keep him happy and healthy.

5-0 out of 5 stars jesse2183
Great product! I recieved it quickly! It has everything you need to know about ferrets.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the better "small" ferret books.
Ferrets are my kind of people. This is my kind of ferret book. It puts lots of good information for the new and experienced ferret owner. It is well organized and presents the information in an entertaining manner. Just a plain good read for a ferret lover and especially good for the person considering sharing their life with a ferret friend.

5-0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST PET OWNER'S BOOKS AVAILABLE ON FERRETS
Having been involved with keeping ferrets as pets, raising ferrets, watching ferrets, giving ferret advice and simply admiring ferrets for more years than I care to mention, I can truthfully say that this is one of the best overall, generally useful and most informative book for ferret owners that I have read.It is geared to the individual who has one or more ferrets for pets.

The Animal Planet Pet Care Library is a good, all around series and this little book is no exception. It covers, in some detail, the care, feeding, handling, socialization, housing, medical care and maintenance of these wonderful little animals.

The author does go into a nicely done natural history of ferrets and gives us a wonderful section of description including color variations, verbal communication and body language (very important if you want the most enjoyment out of your pet).I particularly liked the section of ferret physiology and the section giving advice on picking and choosing a veterinarian for your animal. The book is filled with wonderful photographs which are a delight within themselves. The text is concise, not too technical, and completely readable.

For the pet owner, I cannot think of a better book on the subject. There are many, many books on the subject of ferrets out there (goodness knows I have most of them), but this one is certainly at the top of the heap as far as usability goes and certainly in that position for the pet owner.

1-0 out of 5 stars Be careful seeking advice...
...from any of this author's books...Ms. Barrie was just the publisher's secretary...the publisher is Herb Axelrod and under cross-examination during litigation against him Ms. Barrie said whenever Axelrod assigned her to do a book she just went to the library for references and then spent a week writing each one...Axelrod ultimately was sentenced to 18 months in prison for tax evasion and Ms. Barrie is now working as a dental hygienist...Axelrod carries some weight among fish fans but I'd be cautious about taking advice from any of Ms. Barrie's books.

1-0 out of 5 stars Outdated information
The information contained in the book is outdated and could be hazardous to your hamster. "White shaving" aka pine shavings are a no-no due to potential respiratory problems. The wire wheel, is also a no-no. Every year, many hamsters are seriously injured by wire wheels. There are better, much more up to date books that give safer information than this book!

4-0 out of 5 stars hedgehog book
Very good book if a little old. A good starting point, but i will be looking at something a little newer.

1-0 out of 5 stars Buy it for the photos, not for the content.
All of Kelsey-Woods' books have terrific photos, but poorly organized and often inaccurate information.Sections on hedgehog diet recommend foods that are high in fat, low in protein -- exactly the opposite of what a hedgehog needs. He also recommends the use of gloves while handling hedgehogs -- a true no-no if you ever expect your pet to bond with you.The habitats shown in the book are not large enough for an active hedgehog.

This book is widely distributed, and I am sad every time I see it displayed in a bookstore.Hedgehogs all over the country are receiving sub-standard care because of this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative with lots of beautiful photographs
My daughter just bought her first hedgehog as a pet. Although she researched hedgehogs before deciding to buy one, she was able to learn some important facts of which she was unaware. This book contains exquisitephotographs and stresses the importance of selecting a hedgehog of goodhealth and temperament. It is a good source of information for those whoare new to hedgehogs, yet find them totally irresistable. We have allfallen in love with this new prickly family member ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!!!
This book is so informative. Great buy for new glider owners :) If you are serious about learning everything possible the way I was I would still suggest researching further because everyone says different things. I found a lot of great links online... just google sugar glider information. This book is so great to have when I have friends come over. They ask me what a sugar glider is and I just hand them the book lol. Happy Gliding!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars if looking for information - great book!
Saw article on sugar gliders - wanted more info - this is a great book!

3-0 out of 5 stars Sugar Gliders Pet Book
This is a professionally done work with excellent writing, lots of pictures and illustrations, and a thorough index. However, it is dated, that is to say that this is a re-publishing of a work originally done well over a decade ago, and it does show in places. The amount of information on every aspect of sugar gliders is well worth the price, but it would be nice if the author or publisher updated the volume and included some guidelines and suggestions for websites and the information (some not valid) about sugar gliders (aka sugar bears) available on the web, including cautions about misinformation too.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun, easy, informative read
I read this book in about two hours from cover to cover just the other day. This book left out some details about meal preparation that I've been taught from other sources (owners, websites, etc.) to do. I talked to a friend of mine to confirm the details about that meal stuff. Specifically about how if you don't plan to breed, using the protein supplements instead having crickets or egg all of the time is fine.
That is the only thing preventing this book from receiving a 5 star rating from me.
You can tell the author really cares for her animals and had a lot of fun writing the book. I would highly reccomend this book to anyone interested in getting a glider although this should not be your only source. Talk to someone who has owned them before who has no stake in selling you one so they'll give you the straight talk.

EDIT: Just realized this book looks to have first been published in 1997 so that is why it does not go over the dry glider food, which is apparently a more recent advancement. Still highly reccomended because as I said before you should never have just one source.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent resource
My children both wanted Sugar Gliders and based on Amazon book recommendations, I bought the book. Both children are reading it. It is easy to read, full of good information even if some is out of date, and will help us make the decision about whether a sugar glider is the right pet (s) for us. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for absolute novices to betta fish care - an inexpensive bare basics start
The coverage for betta specific care is useful, if not super user-friendly. Of all the betta care books, this one is probably the most useful for the novice betta owner.

There is also some information for the intermediate-level owner. Discussions include great definitions on true and mixed colors, types of finnage and layman's discussions on what color and fin traits are dominant.

The disease section is fine, but (like most betta books) relies too heavily on dumping in the medications and antibiotics. It does recommend better prophylactic care - like clean water - and at least recommends trying salt regimes before breaking out the bigger meds. Don't look for any pictures of fish diseases, however - there is just one picture of a female betta with dropsy.

The basic betta care section touches on just that - the bare basics. There is enough information to get started, but not the kind of in-depth pet-owning information I personally would appreciate. I guess that is why this book is in the "Quick and Easy" series.

I would also rather the betta care information be organized better, with bullets and easy-to-find section headings. Maybe this is just being picky.

This is probably the best betta book for beginners, with lots of great photos and a decent amount of care information. It's a very inexpensive book and worth picking up for yourself, or as a thoughtful little betta keeper's gift.

3-0 out of 5 stars A little too basic
Betta Care is a well written book with excellent pictures of "Siamese Fighting Fish."If you have only one source of information at hand, this will serve you well.

Unfortunately, there is another source of information that will serve you well at a much smaller cost - the Internet.Though this book is a handy way to get all the information in one place, you can get the same info (as well as all the good pictures) on many different websites.

My recommendation:If you are the type of person who likes to have the info in black and white in front of them, buy this book.If you're the type of person who spends a lot of time on the web, get the same info for free.

3-0 out of 5 stars Betta Care
The book had a lot more information for breederds than for beginners,
but the information that a beginner could use, was very good.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's A Life Saver
This book is exactly what it says, Quick and Easy. The chapter on white spot was a real life saver for our betta. We followed the instructions and quess what? It worked.

4-0 out of 5 stars greatbook
This is an awesome book that tells you how to take care of bettas. It tells you information on feeding, housing, ilnesses, and different types of bettas.Bettas are much easier to care for if you read this astonishing informational book about bettas. This book even helped me cure my betta from an illness called Ich.Buy this low-price book if you plan to own a betta. ...
