I maintain close ties with field practitioners and strive to involve them in the research and scholarship of our profession. By challenging myself to place ideas in larger contexts, I also share the excitement of my own learning with both students and colleagues and invite them to join me in a free exchange of ideas. My specific goals are: Improving the quality of school librarianship preparation in the state; and Promoting information literacy instruction in our school communities locally, nationally and internationally." Extractions: Annette C. Sherry is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Technology in the College of Education at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. In this capacity she advises students enrolled in the department masters program. She teaches graduate level courses on designing and delivering newer technologies, managing educational technology services, and integrating technological applications with adult learners. She also teaches an elective course for undergraduates that serves as an introduction to the field of educational technology. Her research focuses on issues of effective instruction in a technological age in relation to aspects of: 1) computer literacy in terms of persistence in college; applications by school-based pre-service teachers; designing instruction for effective multimedia design; ethical practice for computer and video display and 2) evaluation of distance education. In her early years as an educator, she designed and delivered instruction to over 4,000 public school children and teachers in six school systems in Massachusetts, working as a teacher, media specialist, and media director. During that time, she was one of eight authors who wrote the first state standards for school library media centers for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Subsequently , the emphasis of her teaching shifted to administration and work with adult learners in higher education. Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Hawaii, she worked at two community colleges. In Massachusetts she was the Director of Media for the two campuses of Massasoit Community College. In Hawaii she established the first Curriculum Center at Leeward Community College and worked with faculty interested in integrating technology into their curriculum in her position as Curriculum Specialist.
