Great Book by McEwan
I think that this book is a good read for anyone who has intentions of going into School Administration. It is important because it gives good examples of how to deal with parents who make lives difficult.

Parents should be insulted
I find the term "helicopter parent" insulting.As a doctor, and the father of a son with dyslexia and LD, I am sure that I have been called a "helicopter parent" in teachers' lounges and administration offices, but for all the teachers out there, try to imagine what YOU would do if your child was falling more and more behind and the school seemed unable or unwilling to address their needs.

What would you do if your child had dyslexia, couldn't spell, and then was told the solution was to make him or her "spelling exempt" rather than place your child in an Orton-Gillingham based instructional curriculum that would help them.What would you do if you were told year after year "oh, just give it time, they will grow out of it."

If this happened to you, YOU would become the "helicopter parent" or the "crazy parent" which just means that you were a fierce advocate for your child and wouldn't take no for an answer.If I wrote a book about "helicopter patients" I ought to be drummed out of the medical profession.

Oh, and by the way, in my school district in Sackets Harbor, NY, they spend $14,217 per pupil and 45% of 8th graders FAIL to show basic proficiency on the NY State ELA exams.If more parents knew that, there would be "helicopter parents" landing on our superintendents front yard.

Great resource for principals and teachers
I enjoyed the book thoroughly.The author has a great sense of humor, which makes the book an easy read.I liked how the author pointed out the frustrations parents have with schools and teachers, as well as pointed out the different types of parents teachers and principals have to communicate with. There are tips on how to deal with angry, troubled, afraid, or just plain crazy parents, as well as tips on how to make your school more open to parents.Communication is the key in this book, and the more communication parents have about what is going on, on campus, the better the culture at the school will be.I also liked the back of the book that has a section for staff development. I think the reason many teachers avoid talking to parents is because they don't always know the right way to approach parents.The reason I could not give the book a perfect "5" is because I would of preferred a chapter specifically on examples of the "situations" and the different things that could be said in these situations.Listing the ways to handle a parent is great, but I also need several examples to help me practice.

Good information, some new some old, ridiculous price for the book
The book haas some great advice and insight as do other books I have read on the subject. When I received the book I was a bit shocked as the price tag being $61.95 and the book itself is abut 7 inches in length and five inches wide with 169 pages total. I read this book during my lunch. While the author included some nice tools to measure your school's climate or
overall health, I felt the book was seriously over priced. I can't get past the dollars I paid for this book. I would loan it out but not recommend anyone purchasing the books for such a price.

needed this for a class
I bought this book for a class and thought it would be one that would be relevant to my work with parents.There is only so much that can be said and then there is repetition or information that is far from necessary. I was assigned chapter 10, "working with parents of children with disabilities". Of the 42 pages 26 talked about the history and laws of special education.There was not really anything useful in the chapter that gave specific advise on working with parents.Some of the other chapters were child abuse and home schooling.Not at all what I expected.

Easy Read, lots of info, written so it's easy to learn and remember
Took a class in college that required this book.Has lots of good info and is an easy read.

Only Swick's Book Is Better.
This book has everything from parent involvement to parent teacher conferencing to the very best history of parent education/involvement that I have EVER seen.

If you can't find any book by Kevin Swick, then get this one. Heck! Get 'em both! You can never do with enough ways to get parents involved with children during the early years.

A great step toward solid partnerships!
This book is comprehensive and easy to follow.It is useful for understanding the various perspectives of both teachers and families. I think it is essential for new teachers, as well as those who may feel the need to prioritize and start putting families and communication first!

pretty good
I did like this book because it offers a "battle plan"-you feel empowered just reading it. Some of the ideas in the book are very very practical and I would have never thought about them. However...not all the ideas are all that original, and I was doing lots of the things described anyway. Another problem is that the author, instead of showing more about organizing paperwork, refers her readers to a different book... Overall, it's a pretty nice read, but for the organizing freaks out there-don't expect an epiphany!

AZURE Your Way to an Organized, Comfortable Home
Written in a conversational style, Dr. Bishop guides us through a delightful process of decluttering and organizing our home environments--to Assess, Zone, Unload, Rearrange & Enjoy. Chapters address creating organized rooms and work and storage spaces throughout the home. This comprehensive manual is especially valuable for the numerous checklists for project planning and for documenting important family and household information. Making My Space
I like the author's use of humor as well as the included lists for organization. It is possible to organize one area at a time.I have read Alexandria Stoddard in the past and like how this author incorporates her ideas especially for the Decompression Chamber.I live in a one room apartment so I can develop my own Cozy Corner.
This book is more an advanced course in organization than other books I have used in the past.This previous knowledge is often assumed.The bookalso has another problem common to books on organization.Many of us rent and for that reason cannot add built-ins to where we live.

It made my wife very happy.
I purchased this book as a gift for my wife. She is a fairly well organized person but she said that she needed to be better about certain tasks. So anyway, I gave it to her and she said it was perfect. The fact that she was able to read and zoom in on the relevant chapters to her pleased her to no end. I highly recommend this book.
