What a waste
If you already have a Xoops site up and running, this book is not for you. This is a rank beginner's guide to setting up your first website.

I'd figured out how to install and configure Xoops a few months earlier, and got almost nothing out of this book. It's also way too short (I read it in a day) and a lot of space is taken up by large, unnecessary screenshots.

If you skip the first two chapters (overview & installing Xoops) as well as the subsequent screenshots, you're left with under 70 pages of text! Building Websites with Xoops is rather overpriced for what you get.

The author doesn't go into enough detail when going through the popular modules. He just explains the (self-explanitory) functions in the Admin section, without exploring any deeper or giving advice on how you can REALLY customise Xoops.

There's also no info on how to create your own module, which is a pity. The 'Creating your own Themes' chapter is the best one, and happens to be the sample chapter you can download for free.

You're better off learning from the Web.

Intro to Xoops
This is relatively short book about Xoops. I have never before used Xoops nor anything similar and found this book to be a good quick introduction. The organization of this book probably would not be easy to search for answers to future questions but it can get you started quickly. After reading the book and trying to build a web site I abandoned Xoops. I worried the current dependence of Xoops on tables for layout would lead to re-doing a lot of work when the system changes to use CSS for layout. Perhaps I do not understand how to use Xoops but it also appeared that I would have to put significant time into making modifications to accomplish my goals. The book gave me enough background that I felt I would be able to make the modification to do anything I wanted, but I felt the same amount of time would be better spent on Ruby on Rails.

Great Product at a Great Price
I found this product on the teachucomp website for $125.00 (which was advertised as half price) and was thrilled to find it on Amazon.com for $39.95.If you are trying to learn Quickbooks it provides all the information you need with 9 hours of video demonstration you can watch over and over again.

Easy to understand
I am graduating in May, so I have been looking at jobs. I knew nothing about Flash and a lot of web development jobs I have been looking at mention that they would like someone with experience in Flash. I bought this book to educate myself on the software so I will know what I am talking about when I got for an interview. I really understood the book and the examples were really easy to follow.

Takes the mystery out of Flash
I am not a long-time Flash user, so I can't compare this book to other resources or previous versions. However, I can tell you that I got a lot out of this book - it made Flash much more approachable for me, and gave me the confidence to really explore the program. The lessons are written in such a way that I didn't fell "talked down to," it was like a knowledgeable friend walking me through the steps. I love having this book and the DVD tutorials here at home so I can work at my own pace, mark up the book, cross reference when needed, and just have fun while I'm learning. The only minor negative I can share (and it's actually a compliment to the writers of the book) is that I am having so much fun with Flash now that I find myself spending hours immersed in the program! Thanks to the knowledge I gained from these lessons, I feel confident adding proficiency in Flash to my resume.

If you are looking for a book that will give you a solid foundation in Flash, look no further. You'll be happy with this one.

Not worth the money
I've been developing web sites for quite some time but it's been business to business sites.Now that I have some consumer clients, I thought I'd add Flash to my repertoire.This book isn't the one to get that job done.It makes way too many assumptions and even omits critical steps that culminate in a very frustrating learning experience.I had originally looked for a WROX or O'Reilly resource as they have yet to disappoint.Skip this one and keep on looking.

This is a great resource for a wide range of Flash users.If you are a beginner, this is a great book with easy to follow step by step instructions that include full color images along with supplemental video tutorials. The book covers items from beginning animation to action script and including audio and video into your Flash projects. The instructions are written for PC and Mac.

I have used Flash since the old MX version and have gone through many upgrades; this book is good reference tool for learning the new features in CS5. I'm a working professional with no time to take a classes to keep up with the new features in the new creative suite; so this is like having a classroom at my fingertips.

Dumber than dumb
At $40 this is a ripoff. First of all the video presentation is of such poor quality one has to reset the computer screen resolution. Next the sound is equally bad. It is a very slow-moving narrative, takes forever to explain basic, simple concepts. I wasted a ream of paper printing out the manual, which is over 70 pages of boring reading. I could not find a word of mention about how to load contacts into or out of Outlook, nor anything about synchronizing with hand-held mobile computing products such as Blackberry. Excellent program for those new to Peachtree
I can't say I like the Peachtree program itself (I'm a QuickBooks user primarily) but needed to learn this as well. I couldn't find any other Peachtree tutorials out there, but ran across this. I now own a few of TeachUcomp's products and they are excellent.

Mastering Peachtree Made Easy will definately help a newby to Peachtree quickly get into the program.It covers "most" of the areas of Peachtree Complete 2008 (as well as other Peachtree programs and versions) but will not do it 100% so it is important to get to work while you are still covered under Peachtrees 30 days of complementary support or you'd better figure on subscribing to an annual support plan (as much as $299 or more a year).Lessons are well presented and it is easy to go back and redo small areas that are not immediately clear.The sequence is also sensible in terms of you get first what you need first.The price is very reasonable for what the program delivers. ...
