Extractions: Achievement Gap Read Across America Distance Learning IDEA ... Contact KNEA Issues in School Finance School finance formulas around the nation have been challenged over the past 20 years for their equity and adequacy to provide each child with an education. In Kansas, such a challenge resulted in a formula to distribute funds to school districts with an option for increased local option funding up to 25% over the basic funding provided. Additional adjustments are provided for a variety of purposes - special education, vocational education, staff development, size of district, etc. Kansas NEA continues to advocate for adequate funding so that every child may receive a quality public education. KNEA has joined with a coalition of education agencies and the Kansas State Board of Education to propose its vision for needed funding and the programs it would support. At the same time, legislators are confronted with budget shortfalls as the results of years of tax cutting and a failure to increase funding by an amount to keep pace with inflation.
