The goal of such programs is to draw a diversity of individuals with in-depth subject matter backgrounds into teaching careers. Requirements for an alternative teaching license vary by state. For an overseas position, it does not matter what state your license is from. "I needed something to stretch me," said McCollum, explaining why she decided to go through the yearlong certification process.
