In the 2nd Chp. of the book, Huntingdon names the major contemporary civilizations: Sinic, Japanese, Hindu, Islamic, Orthodox, Western, and Latin-American. I assume Huntingdon classified Korea as part of the Sinic civilizaton. However he gives Japan its own classification which has evolved after emerging as its own sometime between A.D. 100 and A.D. 400. My question is, if Japan is listed as a separate civilization, do you think a strong argument could be made for Korea? Or, do you think Japan, Korea should be listed in the Sinic category. I'm not sure why I felt the need to post this question other than perhaps a strange nagging korean pride...

First of all, I have to point out that what, when, how and by which means "civilization" has been defined is based on " Western" European definitions and historical scholarship that dates back to the age of imperialism when the former British and French empires came in direct contact with " exotic" peoples, " primitive" races (that were of course arbitrarily classified according to skin color, etc.) and far off continents and ancient civilizations.

"Panzer Dragoon Orta" is a throwback to an older kind of shooting game, one that emphasizes twitchy trigger fingers over strategy or exploration, and the form has never looked better. T"Panzer" (Sega, $49.99 for Xbox) takes place in a profoundly damaged world, where the living weapons of an ancient civilization run rampant and most of humanity has coalesced into a single powerful empire. This empire has harnessed some of the ancients' power to create monstrous Dragonmares, horrid flying things that supplement the imperial fleet's technological might, and the game opens with a squadron of these creatures laying waste to a town, their target a white-haired, amnesiac girl imprisoned in a stone tower.

As a living historian, I have seen otherwise disinterested individuals become History groupies within a few minutes of being exposed to history that has come alive. My objective for this plan is to assist my students into a self-guided immersion of East Asian culture by directing them in a cooperative group activity that will allow them to discover some degree of what it means to have an Asian culture. The window of focus will be the crest of each countrys ancient civilization period. Bio: 11 years experience at the high school level. I am currently teaching 2 sections of Honors World History (10 th grade) and 3 sections of US History (11 th grade). With our school system opening a new high school next year, I am anticipating teaching 5 sections of World History, but that has yet to be finalized. Upon the conclusion of this plan, each student will have been able to:

Its emergence lies in the fact that the ancient Khmer rulers adopted a right political doctrine of its time, which enforce the unity among people. Moreover, they had developed an intelligent irrigation system to control the water of the great Mekong River for agricultures, which enhanced its prosperity. The Khmer Civilization had long been perished over 5 centuries ago, but it left outstanding monuments such as the great Khmer temples of Angkor Wat and Bayon and numerous unique sculptures like Apsara. The word "Angkor" is derived Sanskrit, an ancient Indian language, of "Nagara" which means "City".
