Product Description
Her style and elegance charmed the world. Her dignity and grace captured our hearts. Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis. Jackie O. Mrs. Kennedy. Or just Jackie.

As beloved First Lady, tireless patron of the arts, dedicated career woman, and devoted mother, she lived at the center of the world's stage. Yet, until recently, her early years, from childhood to young adulthood—the formative years that shaped her character—remained wrapped in private memories. In Jacqueline Bouvier, family historian and bestselling author John H. Davis opens the window on his memories of his celebrated first cousin in her youth.

Extraordinarily intimate and touching, Jacqueline Bouvier is a tale of two childhoods. Davis's mother and Jackie's father were sister and brother, and John Davis and Jacqueline, born just weeks apart, spent their summers together on their grandfather's East Hampton estate and frequently met at family holiday gatherings. Secure in the heart of privilege, they grew up in the gilded townhouses and grand ballrooms of New York City, the equestrian circles of Long Island, and the mansion society of Newport.

Jackie's mother, Janet Lee, a high-strung and strong-willed young woman, had been determined to marry into Society. She did, after meeting the dashing playboy stockbroker John "Black Jack" Bouvier, whose family could trace its American roots back more than a century. Jacqueline's Grandfather Bouvier was a gentleman of the old school who kept a household where strict rules of dress and decorum were enforced. He instilled in his grandchildren a deep sense of aristocratic lineage, a characteristic that would influence Jackie's highly developed aesthetic sense and extraordinary strength of character. Ironically, Jackie's maternal grandfather, James T. Lee, was a self-made millionaire whose rise from rags to riches oddly paralleled that of her future father-in-law, Joseph P. Kennedy.

Jacqueline Lee Bouvier was born on July 28, 1929. Her idyllic early childhood—she became a passionate equestrienne, winning her first blue ribbon at the age of five—was shattered by her parents' bitter divorce when she was only seven years old. The ensuing emotional tug-of-war for her loyalty and devotion, fueled by her own conflicting feelings for her overly critical mother and her overly indulgent father, would haunt Jackie even on the day of her wedding to John Kennedy in 1953. From her father's unpublished letters to her come new insights into their fateful relationship.

After attending Vassar, the Sorbonne, and Georgetown, Jackie worked as an inquiring photographer for a newspaper in Washington, D.C., and it was here that the vibrant, ambitious young woman encountered the young congressman from Massachusetts. Their courtship would culminate in what Life magazine dubbed "The Wedding of the Year." At that moment, the intensely private young woman began a new life as one of the most famous public figures of the century.

"His memories of the family's summer gatherings in East Hampton are tinged with moving nostalgia. . . . His personal reminiscences of Jackie's White House years are irresistible." —The New York Times on The Bouviers

"Davis does a magnificent job of narrating this family chronicle." —Los Angeles Times on The Bouviers

"A consistently fascinating saga." —Time magazine on The Guggenheims

"Every American should read this book." —Liz Smith, New York Daily News on The Kennedys

Jacqueline Bouvier re-creates the people, places, and events that shaped her young life. Lavishly illustrated with vintage family photographs—some never before published—it is a revealing, rewarding story, told with warmth, honesty, and great affection.Amazon.com Review
As a child, author John H. Davis spent summers with Jackie and theBouviers and was like a member of the family. In this, his third book on thearistocratic clan, Davis covers Jackie's life until her first wedding. Mr.Davis possessed great disdain for Jackie's mother and includes many nastydetails about her--including how she hired a young woman to trap her husbandin verifiable infidelity. He also writes that a close friend of Jackie'sfather later moved to Texas and became the "principal mentor andfriend" to Lee Harvey Oswald--a revelation that puts a new twist on theconspiracy theory. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Jacqueline Bouvier: An Intinate Memoir
Book was in better condition than was described; time contract for delivery was accurate. Very satisfied with product and service.

2-0 out of 5 stars an ok book
This book was good, but it only talked about her childhood. There was nothing about Onassis and her life after she married JFK. It didn't even mention her kids. John H. Davis also needs to learn to stick to the subject, he would often wonder off into stories about himself. If I cared about him I would have gotten a book about John H. Davis, but I didn't, I got a book on Jacqueline Bouvier. No one really cares what she did day by day of her childhood. We just really need the basic stuff. My final words are that it was a good book about her childhood and thats it, so i believe this book doesn't deserve more than two stars because there was more to Jacqueline's life than just her childhood and it doesn't even talk about her White House expirence or how she died.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book about Jackie's childhood
This was one of the first books I read about Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and though I've read many since, I still consider this one of the best. Itis filled with reminisces of events experienced by the author, a cousin ofJackie's who kept in touch with her throughout her life. The author hasdone extensive research into both the Bouviers and the Kennedys in hisother writings - this book is an interesting and informative combination ofthat research and his personal memories of Jackie as a child and youngwoman. Highly recommended to all who wish to learn more about the lessdocumented part of Jackie's life.

Product Description

It has now been more than forty years since President John F. Kennedy was assassinated on the streets of Dallas on November 22, 1963. No event in the post-war era, not even the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, has cast such a long shadow over our national life. The murder of the handsome and vigorous president shocked the nation to its core, and shook the faith of many Americans in their institutions and way of life. The repercussions from that event continue to be felt down to the present day. Looking back, it is now clear that Kennedy’s death marked a historical crossroads after which point events began to move in surprising and destructive directions.

In Camelot and the Cultural Revolution: How the Assassination of John F. Kennedy Shattered American Liberalism, James Piereson examines this seminal event from an entirely new and provocative point of view. Most books on the assassination take up the question as to who was really responsible for killing the President. Mr. Piereson takes it as established fact that Kennedy was killed by Lee Harvey Oswald.

What needs to be explained, he argues, is the bizarre aftermath of the assassination: Why in the years after the assassination did the American Left become preoccupied with conspiratorial thinking? How and why was John F. Kennedy transformed in death into a liberal icon and a martyr for civil rights? In what way was the assassination linked to the collapse of mid-century liberalism, a doctrine which until 1963 was the reigning philosophy of the nation? In answering these questions, Piereson places great weight on the influence of Jacqueline Kennedy in shaping public memory of her husband and the meaning of his death. The Kennedy assassination, he argues, is a case study in public myth-making and the ways in which images and symbols can override fact and substance in political life.

5-0 out of 5 stars A scholarly and intriguing read, enthusiastically recommended
Even though it happened four decades ago, the Kennedy Assassination still holds heavy weight on today's America. "Camelot and the Cultural Revolution: How the Assassination of John F. Kennedy Shattered American Liberalism"discusses the far reaching aspects of President Kennedy's assassination, and how Lee Harvey Oswald's merciless bullets shattered the progressive momentum that America had for the first half of the century. The aftereffects of the assassination continue to hold modern liberalism at a strange place to this day. An intriguing and fascinating dissection of the past forty-five years of liberal politics, "Camelot and the Cultural Revolution" is a scholarly and intriguing read, enthusiastically recommended.

3-0 out of 5 stars ancient history for me, eye opener for anyone born since 55
Anyone who grew up or lived through the sixties will remember all this, perhaps the myth that was built up around the Kennedy family needs to be put into perspective, but this book spends too much time on how liberals got submarined by radicals who felt change was not moving fast enough, but conservatives are ignored, instead of taking credit for passing Johnson's legislative program and forcing the administration to fight to win or quit in Vietnam the Republican Moderates backed Nixon's experiments with OSHA< EPA> price controls and a host of other liberal policies trying to buy off the opposition. Nixon is posed as the alternative to Kennedy, but in actual practice he was to Kennedy's left on many issues, not as a matter of principle, but a matter of political expediency. this should have been covered in depth

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant
Nearly half a century after President Kennedy's death in Dallas, it's time to remind people just who Lee Harvey Oswald was, what he did,and how what happened on Elm Street that day has affected the entire course of American politics.James Pierson has done just that with a brilliant analysis of the Kennedy Assassination -- the event that, more than any other, drove the American Left completely off the deep end.

If it was hard to imagine that a little man like Oswald could have brought down JFK, it has been impossible for many to wrap their minds around who Oswald really was: a self-proclaimed Marxist who defected to the Soviet Union, married a Russian girl, was "allowed" to return to the U.S. with his wife in tow (the KGB would have had to approve her exit visa), took a shot at a right-wing general, agitated on behalf of Fidel Castro, tried to re-defect to the USSR via its embassy in Mexico City (which then as now was the KGB's chief station in the western hemisphere), was denied, returned to Dallas, learned of Kennedy's motorcade route, brought his rifle to work, and killed the president with a classic three-shot group:miss, hit, kill.

In the aftermath of the assassination, President Johnson was hysterical at the thought that the Soviets had deliberately sent a "Manchurian Candidate" back to the U.S. to kill the president, as declassified conversations between LBJ and FBI director Hoover make abundantly clear. It was a question LBJ didn't want the answer to, for obvious reasons: if the Soviets had assassinated the American president, we would have to retaliate. And so, in part, the myth was born that Kennedy was killed due to the "climate of hate" in Dallas in the fall of 1963 -- a myth the Left has clung to ever since.

I know whereof I speak:in researching my first novel, "Exchange Alley," I spent a month at the National Archives, working with the JFK Assassination files. If you'd like a fictional take on the assassination, please check it out. But, by all means, buy this book for yourself and all your friends. ... Product Description
THE SECRET SERVICE. An elite team of men who share a single mission: to protect the president of the United States. On November 22, 1963, these men failed—and a country would never be the same. Now, for the first time, a member of JFK’s Secret Service detail reveals the inside story of the assassination, the weeks and days that led to it and its heartrending aftermath. This extraordinary book is a moving, intimate portrait of dedication, courage, and loss.

Drawing on the memories of his fellow agents, Jerry Blaine captures the energetic, crowd-loving young president, who banned agents from his car and often plunged into raucous crowds with little warning. He describes the careful planning that went into JFK’s Texas swing, the worries and concerns that agents, working long hours with little food or rest, had during the trip. And he describes the intensely private first lady making her first-ever political appearance with her husband, just months after losing a newborn baby.

Here are vivid scenes that could come only from inside the Kennedy detail: JFK’s last words to his tearful son when he left Washington for the last time; how a sudden change of weather led to the choice of the open-air convertible limousine that day; Mrs. Kennedy standing blood-soaked outside a Dallas hospital room; the sudden interruption of six-year-old Caroline’s long-anticipated sleepover with a friend at home; the exhausted team of agents immediately reacting to the president’s death with a shift to LBJ and other key governmental figures; the agents’ dismay at Jackie’s decision to walk openly from the White House to St. Matthew’s Cathedral at the state funeral.

Most of all, this is a look into the lives of men who devoted their entire beings to protecting the presidential family: the stress of the secrecy they kept, the emotional bonds that developed, the terrible impact on agents’ psyches and families, and their astonishment at the country’s obsession with far-fetched conspiracy theories and finger-pointing. A book fifty years in coming, The Kennedy Detail is a portrait of incredible camaraderie and incredible heartbreak—a true, must-read story of heroism in its most complex and human form.

A medic burst out of the trauma room, and instinctively Clint Hill took a step toward Mrs. Kennedy. “He’s still breathing,” the man said as he rushed past. Mrs. Kennedy stood up. “Do you mean he may live?” she asked.

No one answered.

Kellerman handed the phone back to Hill and rushed back into the trauma room.

“Clint, what happened?” Jerry Behn asked earnestly.

“Shots fired during the motorcade,” Clint said as he kept an eye on Mrs. Kennedy across the hall. “It all happened so fast. We were five minutes away from the Trade Mart. . . . The situation is critical. Jerry, prepare for the worst. . . .”

The operator cut into the line, “Attorney General Robert Kennedy wants to talk to Agent Hill.”

“What’s going on down there?!” Bobby Kennedy demanded.

“Shots fired during the motorcade,” Clint repeated. “The president is very seriously injured. They’re working on him now. Governor Connally was hit too.”

“Well, what do you mean, seriously injured? How serious?”

Clint swallowed hard. It was all he could do to keep it together. “It’s as bad as it can get.”

5-0 out of 5 stars to proposterous to swallow even for an amateur conspiracy buff
The proposition that the President was somehow vicariously responsible for his own assassination in that he ALLEGEDLY told his Secret Service Agents to back off normal procedures in respect of his safety is beyond the pale and typical of the mistruths that have been the hallmark of the assassination investigation UNOFFICIAL one should stress all the way along. I suppose if one accepts this scenario then one must also accept that Kennedy told his Agents to ignore ALL normal procedures including not positioning themselves in tall overlooking buildings, not placing themselves between the crowd and the President either on the car or running alongside, driving the limousine at a slower speed on Elm St, not identifying Dealy Plaza itself as an obvious hazard to the Presidents safety, in short a complete and utter failure on all and every count and we are supposed to believe that Kennedy ordered all this. Kennedy may have been many things but a fool I doubt particularly where his and his wifes safety was concerned especially when death threats had been noted and where the South at that time could be aptly termed a clear and present danger to kennedy. This was the only time this lack of security took place during the whole of Kennedys term, the question is why and who engineered it. I am afraid this is a poor attempt to alter history next Hoover and Johnson will come back from the grave and tell us they had clean skins in the assassination when all reasonable half intelligent people clearly see their respective culpable actions or non action in the case of Hoover. The research by serious observers has moved on down the road much much too far for this fairy tale to be taken even half seriously.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautifully written--must read
This book is a beautifully written work that captures the emotions that those closest to the president felt as they witnessed this tragic event and fills in new historical details. It is a must read.

1-0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Revision
When compared and contrasted with their prior protective actions, the Kennedy detail's actions and inaction that created the uniquely insecure operation in Dallas on 11/22/63 is enough to undermine this work. Strangely, the Secret Service destroyed their records as the HSCA was drafting a request for them.

If what appears to be a blatant dereliction of duty is not enough to at least raise the possibility of criminally negligent homicide, ask yourself this question: How is it possible--statistically or otherwise--that every single highly trained protective agent on Elm Street during the 6-8 seconds of gunfire on 11/22/63 could have possibly all failed simultaneously? Are we to believe that Kennedy forbade agents from leaping on to his body protecting him as they immediately did with Johnson at the sound of the first shots? Poppycock!

Fred Newcomb, Perry Adams, Vince Palamara, and many others have thoroughly documented a strong case against the Secret Service for complicity in the murder of JFK. In Volumes IV and V of his work, Inside the Assassination Records Review Board: The U.S. Government's Final Attempt to Reconcile the Conflicting Medical Evidence in the Assassination of JFK (Volume 4), AARB researcher Doug Horne points to William Greer as a possible assassin. As sensational and tired as this theory may sound, not a single individual has explained why high quality versions of the Zapruder film show this agent turn rapidly in his seat and move his hands and arms in a manner that makes it appear as though he is shooting Kennedy. Dan Robertson claims to have corrected the location of Greer's weapon in his book Definitive Proof: The Secret Service Murder of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy. Equally disturbing are the myriad of claims of how Greer slowed or stopped the limo at nearly the exact moment Robertson claims he is shooting Kennedy--are these two pieces of the crime fitting together?

Equally disturbing are the violent actions of the Secret Service at Parkland. More than one commentator has stated that the agents protected JFK's corpse far more aggressively as they were stealing it from the local coroner, who was merely trying to maintain the chain of evidence, than they had just moments before.

Why are there corroborating reports that Greer stayed with JFK's corpse without interruption so long after the shooting instead of staying with the limo? Why are there reports that he locked JFK's clothing in his locker in the White House garage? Why in the hell were the Secret Service in charge of all of these matters at all? Why did so much evidence--body, limo, forensic tissues, x-rays, autopsy photos, clothing--wind up in the possession of the Secret Service at White House of JFK's successor within just fifteen hours of the crime?

Also, why are there reports that none of the agents were reprimanded? Why were some given positions of greater responsibility?

In the face of all of this information and by blaming JFK, this book serves as the ultimate revision of the exact cause of the death--the failure of the US Secret Service to perform has they had consistently on prior occasions. Perhaps as some researchers and authors have suggested, Dallas was uniquely insecure because that is exactly what was required to remove an independent chief executive who could not be easily manipulated by the military and intelligence apparatus.

We should all look forward to the long overdue release of "Murder From Within" before we take the word of those who blame their failure on the victim. Personally, I feel that "The Kennedy Detail" is a sickening and despicable work--the Discovery Channel program will no doubt follow suit.

1-0 out of 5 stars More Mainstream Disinformation
"The Kennedy Detail" is inacurate and self-serving fluff, and merely another in a long series of attempts to distort the truth about what really happened on November 22, 1963. For those of us who have studied the JFK assassination in some depth, one of the few indisputable facts about that day is the complete lack of response on the part of President Kennedy's Secret Service detail. The fact remains that, if the Secret Service agents had been doing their job, John F. Kennedy would not have died in Dealey Plaza.

Vince Palamara is THE expert on the Secret Service's performance, or lack thereof, the day of the assassination. It is a sad indictment of our mainstream press that pablum like this, or "Case Closed," or Vincent Bugliosi's magnus ridiculotus, gets published and massively marketed, while Palamara's ground breaking research remains available for free online, due to the generosity of the author.

Deapite these perpetual efforts to promote the impossible official fairy tale, the public remains largely unconvinced. In the case of this book, we have now reached the height of absurdity, as the victim (JFK) is now being blamed for his own murder. This is incredible gall on the part of the author, to say the least. I would urge anyone interested in the real truth about the way the Secret Service performed in Dallas that day to read Vince Palamara's online work.

Those expecting answers to the numerous questions about the assassination of John F. Kennedy, will most certainly not find them in this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Kennedys fault for his assassination ?
So I guess if someone puts a bullet in your head , someone can come along nearly a half century later and blame this murder on the president involved ? WOW ! Wake up America , there have been 3 investigations into the Kennedy assassination , and the last OFFICIAL one spelled CONSPIRACY (House select committee on assassinations)their conclusion that the JFK assassination probably was a conspiracy. HSCA recommended that the FBI look into this charge, yet the FBI and state dept. chose to IGNORE the HSCA recommendation? Now this joker comes along and blames it on the man (JFK) who was murdered ? 4-0 out of 5 stars Recollections from those who were there...
(originally posted May 10, 2000)
Let Us Begin Anew is a compilation of quotes, recollections, and mini-interviews from dozens upon dozens of former JFK advisors, colleagues, friends, journalists, and political opponents. The book is organized into sections such as the 1960 campaign, the Cuban Missile Crisis, etc. Each section contains numerous comments from these people about that topic ranging from a few sentences to a good paragraph or two.

Oral histories such as this are fun to read and are important because they record the impressions of first-hand observers (an opportunity which is lost as time goes by). You also get some nice anecdotes and sometimes intensely subjective viewpoints that come from those who actually knew and worked with Kennedy.
Because of the expected contradictions between individuals regarding the same event (due in part to flawed memories), such a work should probably not be relied upon as your sole resource regarding JFK's administration. For this reason, I would recommend using it as a complement to any traditional history you might have. There's relatively little in the way of extensive commentary by the authors to tie things together, so I enjoyed reading the book out of sequence by topic area. Overall, a nice and fun resource to have around.

Product Description
After an initial honeymoon with historians, in recent years John F. Kennedy has been more carefully scrutinized, resulting in a wide variety of assessments of his presidency and his life. Michael O'Brien, who knows as much about Kennedy as any historian now writing, has distilled the findings of his heavily detailed biography of a few years ago into a compact life that touches on all the important issues and incorporates the findings and judgments of major works since the president's death. He offers nuanced interpretations of the influence of Kennedy's parents, his early life, his struggles with health problems, his intellectual development, his heroism in World War II, his House and Senate career, and the paramount moments of his presidency, including the Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and his stand on civil rights, tax policy, and other domestic matters. He does not avoid Kennedy's sexual philandering. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars INSIGHTFUL SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Michael O'Brien has written a fair, objective short biography of John F. Kennedy, warts and all, which nevertheless highlights Kennedy's bright intellect and wit
which so endeared him to the public in the early 1960s in the new theater of televised press conferences.

After a slow start, JFK did come around and support equal rights for black Americans; whether he would have carried any Southern states in 1964 is a matter of conjecture.Certainly he became an object of hatred for white Southerners of his generation, like LBJ after him. The Kennedy achievements, however, made possible the LBJ successes in civil rights.

Kennedy did not have the votes in Congress to pass much in the way of domestic legislation.Instead, it fell to LBJ, another brilliant but more eccentric politician, to push through Kennedy's program.

The central issue of Kennedy's presidency is, of course, what he would have done in Vietnam if he had lived. The fact is that he escalated the Vietnam war for political reasons, and allowed the myopic Bundy and McNamara to set his policies. That was not JFK's finest hour.

The President's reckless and indiscriminate sex life remains amazing.Women were brought into the White House and to his hotel suites and the Secret Service was told to stay away.In today's America, the security issues of having these total strangers in the White House would not be so easily ignored.I tend to agree that in JFK's second term the promiscuity would have been made public, at great cost to the President's reputation.

This short biography manages nevertheless to cover all the important topics, relying on a wide variety of primary sources.

Highly recommended. ... Read more

Product Description

From the bestselling author of Kennedy Weddings and Diana and Jackie comes a powerful and moving collection of the condolence letters Jacqueline Kennedy received after the assassination of John F. Kennedy

In the weeks and months following the assassination of her husband, First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy received more than one million letters. The impact of President Kennedy’s death was so immense that people from every station in life wrote to her, sharing their feelings of sympathy, sorrow, and hope.

She received letters from political luminaries such as Winston Churchill, Martin Luther King Jr., and Charles De Gaulle. Hollywood stars like Lauren Bacall, Vivian Leigh, and Gene Kelly voiced their sympathy, as did foreign dignitaries including Queen Elizabeth II, the King and Queen of Greece, and the Prince of Monaco.  Distinguished members of the arts and society—Ezra Pound, Noel Coward, Babe Paley, Langston Hughes, Oleg Cassini, Josephine Baker—offered their heartfelt condolences. And children, with the most heartbreaking sincerity, reached out to the First Lady to comfort her in her time of grief.

More than just a compendium of letters, Dear Mrs. Kennedy uses these many voices to tell the unforgettable story of those fateful four days in November, when the world was struck with shock and sadness.  It vividly captures the months that followed, as a nation---and a family---attempted to rebuild.

Filled with emotion, patriotism, and insight, the letters are a poignant time capsule of one of the seminal events of the twentieth century. Dear Mrs. Kennedy offers a diverse portrait not only of the aftermath of the assassination, but of the Kennedy mystique that continues to captivate the world.

This is a wonderful & elegant book. The author gives the context of each letter and its writer, describes their relationship to Jacqueline & JFK, and meshes all aspects of the letters and their writers into a multifaceted yet cohesive and moving portrait of that time.We hear from everyone, from the taxi driver to Igor Stravinsky.I couldn't put it down.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brings back an emotional time when America seemed together.
If you remember where you were when President Kennedy was assassinated you are probably 55 or over. But for those under 55 the emotion and unity that gripped our country then should be a good insight into one of those events like 9/11 that brought us together as a nation.Excellent read! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Appreciation and Congratulations to the Author
I confess that I am a poor novice when it comes to astrology. I, therefore, must yield to the more knowledgeable to explain what the relationships to the Zodiac actually mean. That said, by and large the narrative in this book allowed me to read with minimal explanation of the referenced signs.

I would like to express an appreciation to the author. For the Presidents included in the text, I learned more about them and their Presidency than I could have imagined. The book, and its hopefully subsequent follow up volume, may be very good reference works. My congratulations to the author for what I consider to have been commendable historical research.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Read!
For someone who has only a basic knowledge of astrology, I found this book fantastic and very easy to read. The author's explanations are easy to follow and had me learning not only about astrology, but history, too. Unlike some other astrology books, we get very specific time-lines attached to individual events (as another reviewer mentioned, end of credit crunch in June '10), not some vague "Something important will happen in November". Worth every cent!

4-0 out of 5 stars Star Light, Star Bright
Star Light, Star Bright
By Timothy Spearman

This book will make Marilyn Muir a rising star. I give four stars because I am a professional writer, not a professional astrologer. I am judging the book in part on its literary merits. I like it because the lady who wrote is honest, sincere and deeply ethical. I like it because she employs the dialectic skillfully in order to defend her various arguments, but never has an acerbic or vindictive word to say about anything or anyone. What I am most impressed by is the fact that the book contains no lashing out. No one receives the point of her rapier, however much she might acknowledge that the pen is mightier than the sword. The pen can display its mightiness in other forms. It need not be employed as a rapier. A pen can build mountains. I believe hers has begun one. Others will follow who will turn this pioneering effort to advantage and carve out a mountain in the American landscape to complete this Mount Rushmore of the astrological field.
Unlike many of the current political polemics, there is no Bush bashing and no disrespect shown to the office of president in this book. While Marilyn acknowledges that some of the nation's presidents did not govern as responsibly and successfully as others, she casts no aspersions on anyone's character. I respect this display of integrity greatly and believe others will respond to it in a similar vein. I have in fact learned something from this wise 70-year-old lady, who displays a youthful wit and energy a good three decades junior her actual age.
I am glad I was asked to review this book as I am a student of metaphysics and astrology like Marilyn. My own published Ph.D. thesis in the field of metaphysics, The Ethics of Timelessness, resonates with me here as I review Marilyn's book as I came to regard that written text and all subsequent ones as a living spiritual entity just as Marilyn rightly sees the nation and the office of president as such. She is unequivocal on this point, stating that, "...the USA as a country is a living thing and that, astrologically, its chart is viewed as a living thing."
It's hard for non-students of metaphysics educated in this secular and largely atheist scientific world to view the nation and the office of president as a living entity with an innate spirituality, karma and destiny, but if you read Marilyn's book with an open mind without the hard stubbornness of hard science, and just a good healthy dose of common sense, you can see that the New World, Francis Bacon's New Atlantis, the United States of America is indeed a spiritual being with a prescribed path and destiny. It was Manley P. Hall, who first spoke of America's appointment with destiny, when he wrote in The Secret Destiny of America, "World democracy was the secret dream of the great classical philosophers...The brilliant plan of the philosophers has survived to our time...and it will continue until the great work is accomplished..." It's hard to argue against America's appointment with destiny when you see how the natal charts and inauguration charts of the U.S. presidents line up against the U.S. birth chart based on the natal star map of the United States.
Indeed it's hard to contest the fact that this brilliant young Harvard-educated lawyer, Barack Obama, is not part of this appointment with destiny, chosen by the universe and by public opinion to assume the office of president at one of the most challenging presidential mandates in history. Marilyn shows us how, in the personage of President Obama, the right man has stepped up to the plate to put America's economic house in order:
She reminds us repeatedly that American and world citizens must be Uranian and Aquarian in our thinking, always looking forward instead of sticking to the adhesive glue of the status quo that will have our butts crazy-glued to our chairs. But she warns us that we must observe the cycles of the heavens and be cognizant of when the energies of conflict, change and becoming come around so we can prepare for these crises in advance and meet them when they come. Marilyn has given us a glimpse at the metaphysical blueprints of God's divine plan for Creation. It's not a bad plan, but if you don't look at the blueprints, you're not with the program. I would encourage any aspiring urban or national planner hoping to make a difference in this world to at least have a look at the blueprints before proceeding. You can save yourselves a whole lot of trouble, time and effort if you refer to the plans from the beginning instead of having to overhaul the project and start over again after design flaws emerge in your construction projects.
Chapter 7 is a compelling section that delves into the protracted cycles of the outer planets Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Indeed, Marilyn goes to considerable pains to explain the roto-rooter effect of Scorpionic Pluto as it agitates its way through Sagittarius to dredge up all kinds of social muck and unpleasantness. But she calms and placates us with assurances that Saturn will provide the mortar to rebuild once the wrecking ball Pluto has finished its work. Change through overcoming is the theme of Pluto, a planet that shares much in common with the Hindu god Siva, who recreates and reassembles the universe through destruction. Ordo ab Chao would be an apt enough phrase for the reconstruction process. "We are approaching the returns of two of the three generational energies, Uranus and Pluto," Marilyn reminds us, "to the positions they held at the moment of the founding of our country. We are at a spiritual essence moment for our USA chart that resembles the approach to the Civil War. We are on a conformist versus change moment, a repeat of a 45-year cycle that seems to occur in pivotal moments in our country's history."
The conclusion of this enlightening book is that despite the planetary lineup in the star map, we have still been granted the power of free choice by our Creator. Marilyn reminds us that there are no genuinely benefic or malefic planets or star signs and that, "Only we can decide how we will use this energy, positively or negatively." This calls to mind the age old debate between free will and determinism. Do we exercise free will, choice and deliberation in our world or is everything already predetermined and decided? I think Marilyn has answered that nicely for us in her book. There are cycles and they keep coming back so that we are presented with the same lessons until we get it right. When we succeed, we can advance to the next level as occurs in every school and every learning curve.
Come to think of it, it was another groundbreaking American creation, Forrest Gump, which resolved the free will versus determinism debate for me. At the beginning of the film, Forrest looked up to see a feather blowing in the wind. That feather symbolized free will. But it chose Forrest and landed on his shoe. Forrest picked it up and put it in his dairy. Later, at the end of the film, he referred to that feather floating on the wind in a touching graveside eulogy to Jenny, in which he said, "I don't know if we each have a destiny, or if we're all just floating around accidental-like on a breeze, but I, I think maybe it's both. Maybe both is happening at the same time." So Forrest the holy fool, the simple sage, solved the paradox that has puzzled philosophers for centuries. In fact, he lived well and wisely despite his limitations. He was born with free will like everyone else, but because in his uncomplicated decision-making process, he always chose rightly, he was granted a destiny. He may not have been terribly bright, but as he says, "Stupid is as stupid does." Truer words were never spoken. Let's never forget the wisdom of those who have learned life's simplest lessons and who have come to them through no higher education or higher degrees. Let us remember that this Founding Mother of the new nation now being born as America completes its 232-year cycle has no formal university training. What can I say except "clever is as clever does".

5-0 out of 5 stars A Book for Our Time
I'ts n ot often I read a book like this, but I got completely swept up in the narrative. I totally recommend this book.Very easy to read.I got it pretty quickly about what are sky maps, birth charts etc, and what happened with Jefferson, Lincoln and Kennedy, and raced ahead to the ending. What will happen with Obama? What a surprise.Marilyn gives signposts, percise dates and describes patterns that can have huge influence on events. There are several important dates that we must watch. We have free will-as a nation we are free to choose outcomes if only we are sure to vote. She even describes Saturn, Neptune and Pluto influences as far out as 2023.That's amazing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Credible
I'm very involved in politics and as an Obama voter and fan I was most interested to see if this book trashed my guy or not. No it doesn't, but it's no fan club either. The author does go off on a few rants about the system, like education, healthcare, social security etc. It's obvious however that she has studied Obama very closely, not just his astrology and his inauguration chart. VP Biden too, I was pleased to see. Stuff there I did not know about their relationship within the team. She's very on top of current events and political issues. In my opinion, she presents an articulate and honest portrayal of the situation, outlines the issues and challenges. She highlights hotspots that Obama still has to face by describing astrological patterns that sync with his chart - or him with them... whatever. She admits that it won't be a cake-walk, but I did close the book feeling pretty relieved about this country. Didn't have to grapple with too much actual astrology, but it's the total underlying theme in her research. Very credible. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This was the 1st Pictorial Book I'd Seen of the Kennedy's
It's also the best I own all of them and let me tell you this is a good buy. I bought it in the marketplace for $3.77, most places want to sell it for over $30. The way the pictures are laid out in the book it's as if the photographer is telling a story w/ pictures. Amazing, absolutely amazing.

5-0 out of 5 stars JFK and Jackie were two incredibly photgenic people
After over forty years, the JFK mystique is still with us, tempered and expanded over the course of time. There are two main themes that strike you when reading this book. The first is that in the initial stages of his campaign for President in 1960, JFK did not generate a great deal of interest. He toured the primary states and in some cases addressed very hostile crowds. In other cases, it was a misnomer to describe his audience as a crowd. However, he persevered and by the end of the campaign the crowds to see and hear him were enormous. His was the last successful presidential campaign that began at the bottom and was not carefully orchestrated with the aid of political handlers.
The second main theme is how incredibly photogenic John Kennedy and his wife were. Not only were they beautiful people, but they were people whose good looks survived the often-harsh reality of the camera. While some of these pictures were posed, most were not and yet both of them still maintain a certain regal quality. Pictures with a small amount of explanatory text cannot truly do historical justice to the Kennedy presidency. However, this book is literally and figuratively a snapshot of his presidency and therefore is of historical interest.

Product Description
According to numerous scholars and pundits, JFK's victory in 1960 symbolized America's evolution from a politically Protestant nation to a pluralistic one. The anti-Catholic prejudice that many blamed for presidential candidate Alfred E. Smith's crushing defeat in 1928 at last seemed to have been overcome. However, if the presidential election of 1960 was indeed a turning point for American Catholics, how do we explain the failure of any Catholic--in over forty years--to repeat Kennedy's accomplishment? In this exhaustively researched study that fuses political, cultural, social, and intellectual history, Thomas Carty challenges the assumption that JFK's successful campaign for the presidency ended decades, if not centuries, of religious and political tensions between American Catholics and Protestants.

Product Description

Neither a random event nor the act of a lone madman—the assassination of President John F. Kennedy was an appalling and grisly conspiracy. This is the unvarnished story.

With deft investigative skill, David Kaiser shows that the events of November 22, 1963, cannot be understood without fully grasping the two larger stories of which they were a part: the U.S. government’s campaign against organized crime, which began in the late 1950s and accelerated dramatically under Robert Kennedy; and the furtive quest of two administrations—along with a cadre of private interest groups—to eliminate Fidel Castro.

The seeds of conspiracy go back to the Eisenhower administration, which recruited top mobsters in a series of plots to assassinate the Cuban leader. The CIA created a secretive environment in which illicit networks were allowed to expand in dangerous directions. The agency’s links with the Mafia continued in the Kennedy administration, although the President and his closest advisors—engaged in their own efforts to overthrow Castro—thought this skullduggery had ended. Meanwhile, Cuban exiles, right-wing businessmen, and hard-line anti-Communists established ties with virtually anyone deemed capable of taking out the Cuban premier. Inevitably those ties included the mob.

The conspiracy to kill JFK took shape in response to Robert Kennedy’s relentless attacks on organized crime—legal vendettas that often went well beyond the normal practices of law enforcement. Pushed to the wall, mob leaders merely had to look to the networks already in place for a solution. They found it in Lee Harvey Oswald—the ideal character to enact their desperate revenge against the Kennedys.

Comprehensive, detailed, and informed by original sources, The Road to Dallas adds surprising new material to every aspect of the case. It brings to light the complete, frequently shocking, story of the JFK assassination and its aftermath.

3-0 out of 5 stars Road to Dallas
Although I enjoyed this book and found it very informative, I was distracted by the excessive underlining. This was not mentioned prior to my purchase, only after I had received it.When I received it, the packing slip said "lots of highlighting or writing in text".If that had been mentioned in the description, I probably wouldn't have bought it.

2-0 out of 5 stars The Road to Dallas Review
This book is not an easy read - way too much info.Facts seem accurate but after reading many JFK history books, I was disappointed in this one.

2-0 out of 5 stars an incomplete analysis
Kaiser did a scholarly, though at times jumbled, job of tracing the development of the anti-Castro activity of the Mafia, Cuban exiles, and the CIA in the years immediately prior to November 22, 1963. This makes the book a worthwhile acquisition. Its a shame he sloughed over the assassination itself. He is blissfully unaware of the underlying physics issues of the best evidence. His work will remain frustratingly incomplete until these issues are addressed adequately.

3-0 out of 5 stars Forest Lost in Trees

If you are new to the conspiracy theories, this is not a good starting place.I was intrigued by browsing the introduction which is a compelling description of the Odio incident, which was unknown to me.The way this incident is presented is characteristic of this sprawling book. The incident and its participants are visited and revisited, scattering the incident's context and ramifications.Even the chapter devoted to "Odio" does not contain the full story.

There is a lot of extraneous information. For instance there is the incident of 3 men in a car with Texas plates braking into Judith Campbell's apartment. The car belonged to a former FBI agent and two intruders fit the description of his sons, one of whom was married to John Connolly's daughter. While this is interesting, it is never tied into anything else.It stays in my mind because Campbell and Connolly are known to me, but hundreds of other isolated incidents and not famous side players stream through this book. At first I thought I should be keeping track of them all.

I wondered where it was all going. Finally, the author stated his thesis on page 378.While, as he says, his thesis does not depend on the single bullet theory, typical of the book's organization, he immediately follows with a 10 page inconclusive analysis of the acoustical properties of the gun shots (i.e. elaborating on the theory on which his thesis does not depend).

I'm not going to re-read this book to see if the author proves his case.I guess, if I tried to reassemble it, I'd find that Frazier presented strong evidence linking Oswald to a host of anti-Castro people and groups, mixed evidence linking Oswald to the CIA and clear evidence linking Jack Ruby to the organized crime figures that had a strong interest in stopping the DOJ investigations led by Bobby Kennedy.

I think this book is for those who have a good background in the JFK assassination theories. The extensive notes in the end can help those who continue to persue the truth.

4-0 out of 5 stars fascinating read...
First of all I have not read a whole lot of books on the JFK assassination so I can not compare this book to other books which is just as well. The Road To Dallas is meticulously researched and the endless details can be confusing at times and trying to keep track of all the names is impossible but I found this book very hard to put down. It was an easier read then I thought it would be because it is so well laid out and the facts certainly buttress the author's theory. A fascinating hard look at the players and the facts many from declassified documents released over the last few years.

Product Description
Communicating with Kennedy Spirits presents the documentation of contacts not only with spirits of the Kennedy family but also with the spirits of the highest ranking men involved in the conspiracy to kill President Kennedy.
To understand the huge importance of the Kennedy family it was necessary to go back to ancient times when Jon F. Kennedy was Amun, the highest god/deity of the Egyptian pantheon. The he was not only the most powerful but also the richest man on the planet. Jacqueline Bouvier married Jack Kennedy in the repetition of a union, which began in those ancient times, lasted up to the assassination of her husband and has been resumed in life after death. Her’s is the first contribution to this book, as she is the one who explains the historical background of the Kennedy Saga.
Shortly after Amun died there was a change of worlds. The present world is a world for humans only. Because of powerful spiritual mechanisms the huge entities of gods and deities cannot incarnate in this world. Only small particles of the former god/deity spirits incarnate in human bodies but these particles still carry parts of the patterns of fate of the god/deities they descend from. John F. Kennedy, Jack, inherited the most highest ranking of all these spiritual particles of Amun, which made him become the most powerful man on Earth, the President of the United States of America. He also inherited the fate of becoming murdered once he had reached this exalted position.
President Kennedy was able to find a solution for the Cuban Missile Crises, which saved all life on Earth. Murder victims go to hell regardless of merits, as they pass on from life to life after life in an act of violence. After many years in hell a situation arose, which enabled Jack Kennedy to lay the groundwork for saving all positive spiritual energies trapped in this place of horrors. He had help but he was the decisive factor in achieving this great spiritual success. Because of him the gates of hell opened bringing salvation to all positive spiritual energies and ending their suffering.
Jack Kennedy talks about his former life time and his presidency. He talks about the circumstances of his death and of his stay in hell. At long last, the truth about the conspiracy, which ended his life, is revealed. Jack Kennedy tells who was involved in the conspiracy and the motivation for each one of the conspirators. He also talks about the curse, which brought so much misfortune to the personal lives of so many Kennedys.
A tragic accident ended the lives of John F. Kennedy, jr, his wife and his sister-in-law. Even before the wreck of the plane was found he made contact. John gives a detailed account of the accident and his short stay in hell. Based on the great success of his father he and the two women in his company were able to leave hell soon. Upon their arrival in the “good place” his parents welcomed him and explained to him and the others the circumstances that lead to their deaths.
Jackie Kennedy tells her son’s story, the one he knew nothing about while alive he was.
After his death the spirit of Frank Sinatra got to know the important political task he had to fulfill during his past life time.
The Spirit of Richard Nixon gives a detailed account of the forces shaping his past lifetime and his presidency, He goes back to ancient times when the rivalry between him and Jack Kennedy began to continue until they met in their lives after death.
The spirit of Nikita Chroushchov, former President of the Soviet Union, explains why he gave the order to have President Kennedy killed.
The spirit of J. Edgar Hoover tells how he got to know about the plot to assassinate President Kennedy. The spirit of Lyndon B. Johnson tells about the horror of becoming involved in the conspiracy to kill the President of the United States and the ensuing cover up. The spirit of Robert Kennedy reveals his participation in the plot.

This little tale is scarcely worth a preface, and it is only necessary to say, that it was written as a relaxation after exhausting toil. If its grotesque incidents beguile an otherwise weary hour with innocent laughter, the writer's ambition will have been fully gratified.

1-0 out of 5 stars Between Heaven and Hell review
It took over a month to get here. I received it after the last possible receive date. I do not appreciate that.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely Creative and Vivid
I enjoyed this book very much. Peter Kreeft is a brilliant creative writer that captures the essence of all three men in Between Heaven and Hell. Those three men being:

C.S. Lewis - A Professor of Mid Evil and Renaissance Literature at Oxford and Cambridge University. He wrote more than thirty books in his life, most of them having to do with (or symbolically related to) Divine philosophy and theology. Most popular among them are The Chronicles of Narnia Movie Tie-in Box Set Prince Caspian (rack), Mere Christianity,The Screwtape Letters: Letters from a Senior to a Junior Devil, Surprised by Joy: The Shape of My Early Life, and The Great Divorce

John Fitzgerald Kennedy - American President and renowned war hero. Saved America from the Cuban Missile Crises, and set into motion what has become modern day NASA. He was a very smart man who graduated Cum Laude from Harvard University. However his degree was in international affairs, and at its heart his thesis/book Why England Slept was a deep look into international affairs as well. Kennedy therefore was not a philosopher, and so doesn't get a lot to say in this book, which is mainly on divine philosophy.

Aldous Huxley- Was a renowned British Universal Writer/Philosopher. He spent most of his life writing novels, short stories, and film scripts. His book mostly having to do with the relations of "Between Heaven and Hell" is The Perennial Philosophy: An Interpretation of the Great Mystics, East and West (P.S.) He is also very famous for his philosophy of taking psychedelic drugs to connect with the divine. Huxley was a sort of Hunter S. Thompson of his generation.

What do these three have in common? They all died on November the 22nd 1963. This book is a speculation of these three men meeting in the afterlife, and discussing various religious philosophies.

The towering argument in this book is on the Deity of Jesus Christ. Was He God, or man, or both, or not at all?

Overall a very enjoyable, thought provoking book that in my opinion really captures the characters of these men, and the things that they would have/might have said on the divine had this situation really come about. Reading this book I felt as though I was propelled back to C.S. Lewis's The Great Divorceas these two books have enormous similarities on the subject of afterlife speculation. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Thorough Conspiracy Theory
If you're looking for a book about the JFK conspiracy theories, this is the one to purchase. Very detailed and informative. It is a very large book but at the end of each chapter there is a summary. The summary breaks down the facts found throughout the chapter.

I got into the JFK conspiracy theory earlier in the year. I purchased lots of books on the subject (most of them were awful) and watched a lot of movies, documentaries, and I did a little of my own research as well.

JFK had lots of enemies. Cuban exiles (because of the Bay of Pigs Invasion). The Mafia (because RFK was targeting and prosecuting them as Attorney General). The CIA (because JFK wanted to break the cia into a thousand pieces, and because he wanted to withdraw troops from Vietnam).

I believe that the Mafia killed JFK. I believe they hired French hit-men to carry out the assassination. I believe that the CIA knew it was going to happen, didn't stop it, and covered it up after the fact. I also believe that Oswald was an intelligence agent, and was actually what he said he was, "A patsy."

Read this book, buy the documentary The Men Who Killed Kennedy, and watch Oliver Stone's JFK.

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic on the JFK conspiracy
It is useful to go back and read some of the classics on the JFK assination to see how they make better sense today, despite their limits, than they did when they came out and the charge of 'conspiracy theorist' still had some meaning. Marrs book holds up remarkably well even if our data is now (devastatingly) more complete.
Still worth reading.

4-0 out of 5 stars An unsolved mistery
The plot that killed president John F. Kennedy that fateful day in November 1963 in Dallas, Texas, created a lot ofbooks all over the world. However, none of them was so complete and exhaustive like this journalist report of Jim Marrs. The author, a veteran Texas journalist, found an astonishing quantity of facts and new evidence revealing mistakes and defects in the official inquiries. So far, all we know that Kennedy's assassination is just the most shameful crime in the recent American history. From this day forwards, we can be sure that too many things have not been said about that day in Dallas. And after you read this book the suspicion becomes the certainty.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Day in History
There are many books on the JFK assassination, but Jim Marrs' book is one of the best available to explain the event.

He reviews the witnesses, their position, the films and pictures never considered, including deaf witness Ed Hoffman, who has recently written his own book. He is one of the few writers to id the Corsican professional hitman, Luccin Sarti as having been in Dallas that day.

Marrs also goes into the Otto Otepka story in the State Department, who was charged with a study of defectors to the Soviet Union, but was basically shuffled out of his job in June of 1963 and sent to an office with no telephone with nothing to do until he finally resigned.

Marrs reviews the plots against JFK which were reviewed by the Secret Service in 1963, leading to his Chicago trip being cancelled and the motorcade route in Miami being changed. He also gets into the escapades of the Secret Service, forbidden to drink alcohol while on assignment, and their Nov. 21 late night in a Dallas club.

He also reveals that in 1975 a 30-06 shell casing was found on the roof of the Dallas County Records Bldg. in Dealey Plaza, a perfect spot for another sniper.

He theorizes that LHO's palm print was put on the rifle after his death and that the strange, quick death of Jack Ruby was due to him being injected with cancer cells, as Ruby claimed.

This is an excellent book for all seeking the truth on the Kennedy assassination, it is a fine place to start. Jim Marrs is a great writer and researcher.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kennedy
I continually use this book by Jim Marrs as a research tool.I highly recomend his book, 'Crossfire,' to anyone who would like a more complete picture of what happened to John F. Kennedy in Dallas Texas and why.We all know now the Warren Report, all 27 volumes, where less than the whole truth. So in my opinion; after 24 years of research, Mr. Marrs, while not filling all the gaps in the truth, at least relates a more complete picture of the whole truth than did the Warren Commission. ...
