This book is not what I had expected.......
I was eagerly awaiting this book after I saw the advertisement.......and what a disappointment.I so liked her other three books........ so I thought that this one would be equally as good........wrong. In fact, it is back in the box it came in and I am returning it.I guess I did not want .....just another project book.Sorry......I just could not justify keeping the book when there was so little in it that appealed to me......

Loved it!
Sally Melville has a wonderfully creative mind and I am jealous.I am always so amazed by people who can create patterns from nothing - designing them to make beautiful items.

There is also a very nice selection of patterns for babies to adults and I loved the wide selection of gifts that are easily knitted up.In short, there is absolutely nothing to hate about this collection of knitting patterns.

A Great Gift Book by Sally Melville and Her Daughter, Caddy
Sally Melville is a wonderful designer and she does not disappoint with this book.Written in collaboration with her daughter, this book is filled with wonderful potential gifts to knit for those you love.Many of them can even be finished in time for the holiday season if youstart soon.

The book is divided into the following sections: For the Wee Ones; For Family and Friends; Keeping Warm; Feeling Festive.There is also an appendix that includes a glossary, yarn weights, and a list of resources.

When I first opened the book, I fell in love with the Malabrigo Lace yarn baby blanket.It's pieced together with nine squaresof luscious pastel colors.The Heirloom Jumper for the littlest of ones, is just that - something you'll want to keep in your family for generations.It is THAT adorable. In the Family and Friends section their is a neat Glasses Case that can also be used to carry change or make-up.it has a Kaffe Fassett flair to it.As an avid reader,i fell in love with the Lace Bookmarks.Anyone who knit me one of these would win my heart.Knit with linen thread, they are really fine, knit with 000 needles.I wonder if my eyes would ever be able to focus again if I knit one for myself.There are several lovely sweaters for men and women included, one nicer than the other. In the Keeping Warm section, the Add-On Afghan caught my eye.As the author describes it, she "wanted an afghan that could be started now, used in progress, and finished whenever".It has a somewhat random stripe pattern and is knit with Galway Highland Heather in beautiful hues of blue, green, yellow and wine.The Skating Coat is lusciously retro and contemporary at the same time.It is knit with Cascade Eco and has the most beautiful sleeves.In the Feeling Festive section, there is a wonderful pattern for Leftover-Sock-Yarn Stockings.It is knit in entrelac patterning and has a 'Noro' look to it.The Tiny Stockings are just too cute.One is more adorable than the next one.

All in all, this is a wonderful book.It is filled with patterns that I can't wait to knit, it is a great resource, and the patterns appear clear and easy to read. Best Knitting Encyclopedia!
I have purchased MANY knitting encyclopedias and guides, and this is by far the best one I've seen.I find the photos especially helpful, and it touches on entrelac, mitered squares, short rowing, intarsia, fair isle, etc in a way that is easy enough for a relatively new knitter to follow along with.I really like that it has all the different cast-on methods.My goodness!There's so much in here.It truly is the only guide a knitter will ever need.The only thing I wish it had was a nice stitch dictionary in the back.Anyone can learn to knit with this guide and most importanly, anyone who is now knitting can advance and advance as far as he/she wants to go!

A HUGE help to a new knitter!
As a new knitter, I've managed to accumulate several "beginner" books/booklets, but this is by far the one I go back to, time and again! I like how it shows several cast-ons, step by step, and tells you which one will have give what type of edge. I recently started my first pair of socks and the cast-on within the pattern was too confusing for me, so I went to this and learned the "Thumb Cast On: English Style" which is perfect for a sock, and was very simple with this book to go by. It was what the pattern was trying to explain! And this book really has so much great information from these cast ons to how to do surface embroidery on knitting ~ something I many never do but looks so beautiful I may have to try it just once! It's very easy to read, has the hidden spiral bound form, full color pictures and step by step easy to understand instructions and pictures to go with them. I highy recommend, for knitters of all levels, this book. You can find any stich you need here and much more.

Knitting Instruction Manual
This book is fantastic!I have read many reviews on different knitting instruction books and then ordered several books from the library to look at them all before making a purchase.I felt this was the best.I learned so much about sewing better seams, how to lenghthen and shorten clothing, diferent ways to increase and decrease, and so much more.I did agree with one review that stated how the index is not very clear and you find yourself searching for things.Once I find what I am looking for I mark it with a sticky-tab.I would be lost without this book.

Knitting Bible
I've been knitting for years, but I don't tend to do complicated patterns. I wanted a reference that would assist me in learning new techniques and stitches. I have found, now that I'm trying new patterns, that I don't know all the abbreviations. After trying to use this book, I ended up returning it. It is filled with information regarding garment making, which is not what I'm focusing on (I mainly knit scarves and hats). The main reason I returned it is that I didn't like the way it was organized. I needed a quick reference for detailed instructions on how to do an abbreviation and I found this hard to navigate in. The index wasn't detailed enough for me to find what I needed, so I found myself browsing though all the sections until I found what I needed. I ended up with "Knitbook: The Basics and Beyond". It's spiral bound, which I LOVE, and I like the simple way it's laid out. All the stitch techniques are in the same place so they're easy to find. But if you mainly make garments, you may like the Ultimate Knitting Bible. It just didn't turn out to be what I was looking for.

One of my best buys ever
This book is one of the best ones I ever bought. The photos are beautiful, the patterns are timeless and showcase beautifully the amazing Noro yarns. And I love that there seems to be options for everyone. Like you may like the look of the chevron sweater, but wear mostly cardigans ? No problem, there is also a pattern for a cardigan version.

Which could be seen as a down side, like the designer made several variations on a same pattern (same applies for turtle neck vest and long-sleeved tunic, same initial design) but I see it as very practical from a knitter point of view. No need to alter the pattern, just sit and knit. :-)

I am currently knitting the bulky cardigan and find directions very easy to follow. And the initial section on Noro yarns is also very interesting.

I recently purchased the Noro book by Cornelia Tuttle Hamilton (the man behind Noro), and this one is SO much better. Much prettier and wearable garments. And the section on Noro yarns is not that smaller.

This is one knitting book that I would take with me on a desert island. :-) Along with a few stitch dictionaries, but it's a beautiful one to look at, and you could make all your garments with it.

Beautiful but...
When I first looked at this book, I thought, how beautiful!And wanted to rush right out and buy a lot of Noro yarn to make about 5 items.

Then I started working on one of the patterns.OMG!Who put together these instructions?Were they knitters?Very confusing and I'm an experienced knitter.Page jumps to sections in different sweaters, odd repeats, instructions out of sequence.Obviously edited so that the instructions would take up the least amount of space possible.Nice pictures though and a good color hit.

So loved the color, hated the instructions.

It could have been so much better
I am knitting a pattern from this book -- touted as a beginner-level book. It's definitely NOT for beginners. I've encountered so many issues with the pattern that I'm working with that I've had to consult two different sources (Knitter's Handbook : A Comprehensive Guide to the Principles and Techniques of Handknitting and sweater knitting software) to determine how to knit a simple ribbed vest. My pattern has the knitter referring back to a simple garment (the "bespoke" garment) in the beginning of the section. In theory, that would work well if the pattern was more intuitive and if the second pattern didn't depart so much in construction from the first "example" pattern. I fully expected to love this book -- it would have met my expectations if not for the errors and complete lack of information.

So while I love Noro yarns and the patterns themselves are inspiring - it's just not very useful. Use it as a guide only.

Gorgeous yarns, showcased in simple projects
Noro yarn is so beautiful, it needs no embellishment.I am so happy with this book.My stash already has yarn for two of the sweaters in this book, and I can not wait to make them up.I drooled over these yarns before I bought them.I had this book in my wishlist for the longest time and finally budgeted for the splurge.
The chapters are arranged around the items that you make. Often several items will be made with the same yarn so you can get a feel for alternatives made up in the same yarn. There is also a key to show you what yarns (Noro) you might be able to substitute.There are 6 chapters of patterns with 5 patterns per chapter.The catagories aretank tops, cardigans, chunky cardigans, jackets, pullovers, and wraps.
Make no mistake, these are some of the finest yarns around and they are expensive.This book goes into detail about why. They are processed carefully and hand dyed to make them unique.There are blends often using silk with other fibers.The patterns are simple and yet using Noro will make the finished products special.
The book is designed so that you can tackle these patterns even if you are a beginner, the yarns will make your things look fashionable and beautiful.
I am also excited about one of the patterns I will make up with a yarn that is not Noro - so I can see future projects, after the Noro stash is gone.

old-fashioned
I am struggling to find reasons to recommend this book - there are so many stitch books out there. I did not find this to be an essential reference. Yes the tips are useful and beginners might benefit from the book. The projects are a real let down and look like they were produced eons ago. It would be far easier to use as a spiral bound book. I love the freeform knitting section but again the pattern for the vest lets it down. This review first appeared on Karen Platt's book review website.

Oops, failed to include charts
Contains excellent color photos. Heavy stock paper. Nicely organized.Could be much more useful for all knitters if charts for stitch patterns had been included. Many pages are at least half white space, where charts could easily have been placed. [Only a few welcome charts are found for the sampler scarf pattern].

Comments, other than skill level, about each stitch are always helpful, e.g. 'looks dense but is quite stretchy; suitable for socks, mittens.' The author and test knitters could have easily added a few keywords as useful guides in choosing stitches.

Mostly reference, but includes a few actual patterns. Beginners may profit from the instructional pages, but expert knitters [referred to on cover] will most likely skip these 44 pages.

Difficult to photocopy for working copy without breaking spine.

Glad to have previewed the book from my local library, as I long ago converted to charts from written instructions. Most knitting books include both these days, which is helpful for all knitters.

An essential guide for every knitter
Margaret Hubert's newest book is a must have for anyone who knits or wants to learn how to knit! Packed with page after page of beautifully well lit photos, it's a pleasure to refer to the stitch guide and actually be able to see the individual stitches for each pattern. I especially love slip stitch knitting. It's very difficult to find stitch patterns in multi colors and this book has a tons including many I've never seen before. Along with essential info about every kind of knitting you can think of, Margaret has included wonderful projects and tips that only an expert teacher would think to include. This is a great addition to any knitting library with something for everyone!

Knitting a Kiss in Every Stitch: Creating Gifts for the People You Love This is the first book by Epstein I have spent any time looking through and I am very impressed. The quality of the photos, which are incredibly important because a good photo shows the objects to be knitted with enough detail that you can see how the pattern works.Pattern books often are geared to one type of thing, for example, scarves or felting or lace.This book has a variety of styles and items, lace, cable-work, hats, shawls, purses.

Ms. Epstein is known for her knitted embellishments and they are on display here in the Charitable Gift Afghan, the Ruched Mittens, and the Cable and Leaf tote for starters.The patterns are fresh and different and will make lovely gifts for some lucky people.

A True Eclectic Mix
There are a lot of knitting books out now featuring gifty type items to make. Most are pretty thematic in that all the projects seem related. I was really surprised and pleased to see that Ms. Epstein has put together the most diverse collection I've seen yet. The projects range from cute & frothy to Goth & Rock, a person really could find something to make for everyone they know with this book.

Some of the items are a little to crafty looking. The angel hats are sweet but probably not practical and the Heart wrap made me think of a construction paper project I participated in back in the 1st grade. However the vampire/werewolf hats are spot on with todays trends and the bad boy/lacy cuffed socks would be a fun gift to give/receive. The only true misfire I found in the whole book is the 'doggie-boobie' hat. I know those pouches are for ears but the poor thing does look like he's wearing a bra on his head. It's a big sad No!

Eclectic and fun, I know I will have fun making several of the items in here.

new addition to my knitting library
I bought this book yesterday after perusing a copy from our local library. The first time I looked through it, I kept saying "I love that! ooh, I love that!I want to make that too!"

This book is a great one for inspiration.I haven't yet followed directions for any of the designs, but at first glance they seem clear.Some of the funkier, artsier stuff will go out of fashion quickly (and some already have), but for the most part, the fancier patterns are timeless, and the children's patterns are fun.

In fact, pretty much the ONLY THING bugging me about this book is that the "Travelin' Man" example hats seem to have their colors reversed. Planes generally won't travel through a green sky.

A caveat: not for the casual knitter.Most projects require more than basic knitting knowledge.But this is a great opportunity to grow, if you have some good LYS help.

Great Dialog Makes for a Great Cozy
Delightful cozy mystery. It reads almost like a script rather than a book with lots of great character dialog. Almost half of the book takes place at a knitting fair where a group of suspects in the murder of a knitting guru have been gathered together to wait as the police question each. I was immediately gripped with the heroine's desire to find the killer and her correct assumption that the killer was in the group of suspects. How could she finesse the killer to reveal herself? (all the suspects are knitting ladies). The plot twists and turns right up to very end. This one was a roller-coaster ride! Loved it!

A good knitting mystery
I love to read knitting and crochet mysteries and I enjoyed reading this book and I am looking forward to reading more of this author's books.

Must Read for Knitters
I love Mary Kruger's knitting mystery series!!Her plots are so well developed and intertwined with the knitting facts.Her main characters are well developed and interesting.The only problem I have is that-she has to write faster!!!! As soon as I finish one book I want to jump into another!!

So disappointing
So, I like cozy mysteries.I like knitting.What more could I want than a cozy mystery involving knitting?

Turns out, a LOT. Now, I must admit, this is the first book I've read in a long time where I've not caught any spelling or grammar errors.But....

The characters are beyond wooden.You can't tell them apart at all.I literally had to keep flipping back to earlier chapters to keep straight which of the possible Suspects had done what.They were entirely unmemorable.No idea what they looked like, no distinctive speech tags or accents, nothing.Just a bunch of generic women.The only one I remembered was the pink beret.

Second, the 'love' plot is so trite it's unbelievable.I literally cringed as I read it. Thankfully that only took up about two pages before everyone was over it and back to watching ice skating.(Guess he wasn't that great a kisser?)

Third, these cops are apparently morons.Now, I'm no cop, but I've read the odd criminal justice textbook in my day.Heck, if you even watched Law & Order (pick your flavor thereof) you'd know more about police procedure than Ms. Kruger does.As the mystery unfolds, turned entirely into the competent (?) hands of a yarn store owner (hey, she's miles brighter than the fuzz here), it would be ENTIRELY impossible to prosecute in court. But these cops don't know what they're doing, so they'll just hide behind rafters and let our Ari have her Hercule Poirot moment.

Fourth, the dialogue.When I teach, the textbook and I both hammer home the idea that people generally don't go up to strangers and spill their life story.Especially when that stranger is accusing them of murder.When the dialogue isn't completely banal, it's info dumps, such as "Do you know what 'suicide by cop' is?" (No, please tell me....is the upshot of her reply. Which he does, for about three pages. And this, by the way, is the flirtation scene.)

As for plot, well, at the risk of being a spoiler, just pay attention to who never speaks and never gets mentioned.Ding ding ding!Crikey. The motivations were weak, there were no real credible red herrings, and frankly, I only finished it because I took a vow with myself back in high school as punishment for not reading Joyce.We have unresolved issues (what about Mr. Barr?) and the 'tension' between the State Police and local never materializes--it would have brought some very-much-needed conflict.

Look, I like knitters, and I like to support knitters whenever and wherever possible.But I can't abide writing this bad.The story wasn't original, the characters were undifferentiated beyond 'types' (the hunky cop, the brusque Chief of Police, the Burbly Best Friend, the Spunky Heroine); it was *boring*.And when two people die and it's *Boring*, someone's doing something wrong.

A pleasant diversion.
Knit Fast, Die Young is a pleasant, unassuming read. I wasn't in love with the book or the characters, but it was a nice way to pass the time and it was fairly well-written.

I found many of the characters to be interchangeable and had trouble keeping them apart. Nonetheless, it was an interesting read.

I strongly prefer first-person mysteries as the distance created with a third-person POV can separate the reader from the action, and I found that to be the case in this book. I also thought the POV was uneven -- sometimes giving insight into what other characters were doing/thinking, but mostly sticking with the limited POV of the main character.

This is the first Knitting Mystery book I've read, and I will definitely get ahold of #1 in the series. ... Read more

Excellent Book
This was a delightful and intriguing book. The plot and characters were well developed. Once I began reading it, putting it down was difficult. It was a treat to read such an enjoyable book. I will continue to read the other books in this series.

This was great, book had been hard to find here in Wyoming. I was really pleased to found this as I had the rest of series.

A Great Read!
KNIT ONE, KILL TWO is a new twist on the usual murder mystery. The characters are believable and the plot is full of suspense.I kept trying to guess the villain, but the author doesn't reveal this until the very end.It was a great read!

Domino Knitting
This is a good book to get started with domino knitting.It starts you out with potholders showing how to do many different styles.It then leads you to making wearable articles.Finally it give you help in how to design your own sweater.

Great Book, Great Price
Affordable, educational and inspiring, what else can you ask of a knitting technique book. I am using these techniques to use up odds and ends of handspun and it is great for this use. I don't have a great eye for color but this book does allow me to work on this with little effort and no problem tearing out and switching colors.

Domino Knitting
This technique is difficult.The author teaches you how to make a lot of pot holders, but her instructions for garments are extremely vague and confusing.

Fun way to knit socks.
The book is well written, good pictures & several patterns in various yarn weights. So far I've only knit one pair of socks from the book & it seemed rather odd at first because the instructions were much different from any other pattern I've used. I am happy with the completed pair of socks & ready to try another more complicated pattern.

I liked the idea of knitting both socks at one time because I've made other socks (1 at a time) and it always seems one fits slightly different than the other-which makes me crazy! This way if my tension is tighter on the heel, toe, etc. it's the same on both & it feels normal.

disappointed!
I read tons of reviews and descriptions of multiple books like this.I chose this one because I was led to believe that i'd be knitting both socks on ONE circular needle not TWO! I don't gather multiple circular needles of the same size.very disappointed but i'm still going to keep this book because maybe i can adjust the patterns to dpns or just do one at a time :(Maybe I should have studied the cover or something to see both circular needle sets.

Good Update
This edition is much better than the previous one.Easier to understand and just flows better.It is so good to finish both socks at the same time!

excellent directions
I bought this book because I liked her first one-Knitting Circles Around Socks--for its clarity and because it met its goal:teach me how to do 2 socks at a time without frustration. This book met my expectations as well and I was willing to pay full price for it because I knew she had solid written communication skills.Her directions are clear and written so that you can be successful.I have since been hooked on knitting socks two at a time and no longer suffer from Second Sock Syndrome.This book does not disappoint and has given me a lot of confidence in tackling the sock world head on. A little pricey but you can get it for less at Amazon of course.

GREAT KNITTING AND CROCHET BOOK
THIS BOOK HAS SO MANY PATTERNS AND EASY TO DO STITCHES REALLY LOVE THIS BOOK

Excellent sourcebook, but be mindful of typos...
While attempting my first cabling project, I turned to the patterns in this book as well as some sample patterns from the internet.I found some of the stitch patterns online to be the same as my samples from the book and drafted accordingly.However, there are some major typos in the book, especially in the cabled "panel patterns" and the "Basic Abbreviations" sections.For example, their instructions for C4F and C4B both instruct you to cable to the back of your work; essentially the exact same stitch.

I love the variety and am overall happy with this book, but I'm now much more wary of trusting the patterns without trying them first.I'd also prefer to have some more border options and a guide to working mitered corners when working a border.

This is my favorite stitch pattern book. There are 546 Knitting patterns and the rest are crochet. You would think that if there is a book with both knitting and crocheting patterns that there wouldn't be a lot...not true, there are, as I said, 546 knitting patterns. There are 320 pages total,and 180 pages are for the knitting section. In the front of the book there are knitting techniques including how to do a slip knot, how to hold the needle, basic stitches, casting on, cable explinations and instructions, how to fix mistakes. I have never seen this many pats in 1 book. Some people say that they have to have charts but I don't. There arn't any in this book but don't dismiss it.

THESE ARE THE CATEGORIES FOR KNITTING,and the amount of patterns in each. Great stitch patterns!
This book has some great stitch patterns although I probably will make something using the stitch but not necessarily the patterns in the book....not my style.

Reversable?
I wasn't sure about this book. The concept seemed a little limiting. But then I had a chance to flip through a copy. The reversability of the some of the designs is questionable but the designs themselves are good. There are several on my to-do list now. The information about reversable stitch patterns would be useful for things that actually benefit from being reversable (scarves, baby blankets).

Fun book, great addtion
I am very pleased with the stitch patterns and have found more than the usual amount of patterns that I want to knit right now!She has a upside down sweater that is ingenious, several scarfs that look quite fun and a minidress thatlooks cute on everyone that knit it on Ravelry.It is a book to take your knitting to the next level as the stitches are not for the beginner, but I have found the stitch and technique instructions are the best.I will be going to this book from now on for instructions - they are clear, concise, easy to follow, and have great diagram pics.By the way, I like the vest.I thought it would be a fun way to make an inexpensive item and try out Rowan Felted Tweed.

Like the title says, patterns are really groundbreaking.
Lay out, photographs, colors, explanations are very clear and easy to understand and follow.
It's the first time I'm knitting in English (I'm Dutch) and with a little bit of study, everything changes in good results!
I tried already 4 different stitches(just little try-outs) and it's encouraging to continue and knit all of them,
or use these stitches for scarves.
Lynne Barr gives the traditional knitter (if open for change) a complete new experience ofknitting and playing with threads and needles.
This book is really a must have for advanced knitters and creative people!

Nothing special
I expected more from this book - it's basically a redux of the same information found in many other knitting how-to books.

Not Quite a "Dummy"
I am a fairly experienced knitter (not to say entirely competent), but I found this book to be very informative, readable and inspiring.It explained several techniques that I never quite "got" before, and has inspired me to try a few new things.

A pretty good way to focus your questions
If you are teaching yourself, as I am, you will find this helpful. There is a lot of good information, but not necessarily things that aren't available elsewhere. The benefit of this book is what the "For Dummies" books are best known for...helping you to formulate the question that you need answered, when you don't know enough to know where to start looking. An essential if you are teaching yourself.

Dirty, Sexy, Just Okay
I had high hopes for this book.The story of Cassandra a yarn shop owner who finds her half sisters (from a sperm donor) and is always trying to rescue people seems like a fun enough premise.This story takes place in Malibu and has all the California flair you would expect to see.The problem is that the story has characters that pop out of nowhere with no background.You'll find that there are leaps in the story line and discontinuities that are strange to follow.The main characters are flawed as you would expect but with little background to pull them all together.Over all it was an okay book that was entertaining enough - but I wouldn't buy it again.

Dirty Sexy Knitting
Cassandra Riley is turning 30 and wants to mark the occasion.She really wants to mark the occasion with her mom, sisters and shop (Malibu & Ewe the hottest yarn shop in Malibu) friends.But, it looks like yet another thing is not going her way.Juliet is on her honeymoon, Nikki is in the middle of wedding plans, her Mom is off on another adventure and Cassandra has decided that she is going to stop pursuing Gabe, sigh what is a girl to do.Well she will throw herself a big bash at the shop is what.

But, it looks like Mother Nature isn't even playing along as the night of the party there is a mudslide closing off her road.

Marlys is also back in Dirty Sexy Knitting and she might just finally have met her match in Dean.

The culmination to the adventures of the Malibu & Ewe sisters was an emotion filled suspenseful ride that I thoroughly enjoyed.Ms. Ridgeway brings the story of Cassandra to life and I was very glad to see her finally decide to let Gabe go, no matter how hard that would be.But, maybe absence will make the heart grow fonder?I do have to say that the title brought a few eyebrows up when I was reading it at the dentist office.If you want a great summer beach, or fall porch read, than you need to pick up Dirty Sexy Knitting.Or heck, pick up all three and enjoy the reading.

Note: While Dirty Sexy Knitting is part of a series it can be read as a standalone book, though it was more fun to read the entire series.

This series is about three women who mothers visited the same fertility clinic and after doing some research they found out they are 1/2 sisters.They live in Malbu and through the two previous book ( How to Knit a Wild Bikini and Unravel Me (Berkley Sensation)) their lives have entwined. This book is the story of Cassandra Riley and the widower Gabe Kincaid. Gabe lost his wife and child 3 years aga and has slowly drank himself to death. Cassandra loves Gabe and has been rescuinghim for months. Cassandra and all her friend confront Gabe about what he does in his black-out and he slowly start to confront his behaviors.Great Series - Enjoy!

If you enjoy this genre I would also suggest; Double Play (Berkley Sensation), Start Me Up and One Reckless Summer: A Destiny Novel.

Cassandra Riley is depressed. It is her thirtieth birthday and no one is around to celebrate it with her. Nikki and Juliet are both off with the men they love but Cassandra is alone. The man she loves will never be hers. Gabe Kincaid is her landlord and friend. He has lost his family in a horrible car crash and has been wanting to join them in the after life ever since. Cassandra keeps bailing him out but one night is going to change everything between them, making Cassandra wonder if pining for a man that will never love her is really worth the trouble. But when a series of misfortunes happen to Cassandra, Gabe realizes once and for all he must decide to do something or he might just loose Cassandra to a madman before he can discover if he really loves her or not.

Dirty Sexy Knitting by Christie Ridgway is really a fun, sweet read. I loved the references to yarns, and crochet and knitting. I am fiber artist myself and could really relate to this part of the story. Gabe is a tortured hero. He has lost his family, and he feels like he failed them when they were alive. He didn't give his all to them. He could have done things better. He is wallowing in his guilt and pain when we meet him. Cassandra is witty, creative and resourceful. I love her spunk. She has tons of spunk. She doesn't allow herself to wallow too long. She is able to evaluate her life and take stock of it. I liked that about her. She is not weak. She has hung in there a long time waiting for Gabe. Hopefully it will be worth the wait. When these two get together the chemistry is off the charts. But Cassandra has many misfortunes happening to her and her knitting shop. Is someone trying to kill her? If so why? The hint of mystery will keep you turning the pages of this novel. When you want a sweet, sexy romance with a hint of intrigue you want Dirty Sexy Knitting this is the third book that concludes a really good trilogy everyone should own.

Perfect End to the Series
So far, this is the best book I have read all summer. I had been waiting for Gabe and Cassandra's story and I wasn't disappointed. The reader also has the added bonus of Marlys' story being wrapped up too.

Gabe and Cassandra had great chemistry and their story was both dirty and sexy and included some knitting.

The one complaint I have is that the action leading up to the ending was a little out of left field. It was unexpected and didn't flow with the rest of the books or even the rest of the story for that matter.

Overall, this book was well written, fast moving and an excellent end to the Knitting series. You should read the other two first, especially the second book because that is where Marlys is first introduced. ... Read more

could be MORE visual
Overall, I rate this book as useful to the beginning SOCK knitter, but not to a beginning knitter. I've done maybe a dozen different knitting projects, including sweaters, but haven't done socks.

To be truthful, it was the colorful cover art and the words "teach yourself" in the title that caught my eye and made me pick this book up, because I didn't really believe the "visually" part of the title. Too often, I've worked from instruction books that had too few photos, irrelevant, non-instructive photos, or no photos at all of the really difficult parts of the process. This book, however, nearly lived up to it's promise. I was able to figure out how to knit my very first sock from the directions and illustrations in here.

Frustratingly, the book lacked photos of some of the more opaque directions, particularly the picking up of the stitches along the instep after turning the heel. I figured it out on my own, luckily, but there were several points in my sock-knitting adventure where I felt quite left to my own devices by this supposedly step-by-step book. However, kudos for the attempt. Thank goodness someone has finally cottoned on to the fact that some of us need to see it to learn it.

If you're familiar with what knitting should look like, you'll be able to sort out the bits where the book is visually unhelpful, but I wouldn't reccomend this to a novice knitter. Also, as several people have mentioned, this book suffers from the successful-series disease of sloppy editing; consequently, there are numerous pattern mistakes that would send a novice knitter off in completely the wrong direction.

Just what I was looking for
There are good pattern books and there are good teaching books and this is definitely a good teaching book.I had never learned to do socks on circular knitting needles until this book.The instructions were clear, the pictures were great and without even a snag, I was happily knitting on two circular needles within minutes. I can't vouch for the patterns because I really don't use patterns. I got a sock calculator chart out of a Vogue Sock knitting book and I just refer to it and make my patterns up as I go. But if you need pictures and good instructions, this is the book for you.

Photos too small !
I checked out this book from the local library and I'm glad I did.Although the "Tips" were great, my biggest complaint is that for a book that is supposed to teach Visulally, the photos are too small to be of help to learners of techniques illustrated.I read the reviews of the errata (none appear to be in the pattern I chose) but that made me a bit nervous as a new sock knitter (5 under my belt so far). I mainly checked this book out as I am attempting Toe Ups for the first time.Than god for YouTube tutorials! In combination with this book, I will succeed!

Teach Yourself Visually
I have come to one mistake Page 142 on the Turn Heel step 4 should read Row 4: SL1,p to 1st before the gap, p2tog, p1,turn. The p2tog is missing. But, when you go back to her first teaching you see that it is there. I have made the socks and they turn out prefect. That is just a oversite. The book is very clear. It was scary for me to try socks. This book is so simple that a first time knitter could handle any pattern in this book if you go to the learning section first, which was not a waste of time, for me. Plus, it is very easy to go back and find those parts you need as you go while knitting your socks. VERY good. I KNOW I couldn't make a sock that fits me without this book, ask me how I know? Tons of trying and failing. Yahoo, now I have a pattern for me that works. SO HAPPY!

book is FULL OF ERRORS
I am so glad that I had knitted a pair of socks before purchasing this book.Having done a pair or two, I wanted to make sure I was doing it correctly before teaching a class and recommending this book to the students.Doing the top down sock when I got to the heel section I knew that something was not right with the directions.I went to the publishers site and found the corrections.It is not just one or two errors.There are numerous errors for all the patterns.Very disappointing that this was not proofed before publishing.Can not recommend this book at all. ... A fun read!
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was an easy read and fun.
Sometimes we need to just enjoy a book to make us smile. The characters felt like friends as you were reading.

The coolest thing about this book is the cover.
I spent $5.00 on it because it was on a bargain table and I can see why. It's practically unreadable. None of the conversation is believable and it's all over-dramatized. However, I did find a great use for this book. I like to read random excerpts for my knitting friends. It's like Saturday Night Live.

Girl Empowering
I absolutely loved this story! The cast of characters were fun, interesting, and relatable. The 3 girls were an inspiring group of friends. I admired their friendship and commitment to one another and their knitting! All the ladies must read! I was in longing when it finally ended. I hope Lazebnik continues this one with sequals!

Started out strong but ended abruptly
I picked up this book along with a few other 'girlie' books and finally got around to opening it.

It intrigued with a story of friendship as well as the lives they all led.

I don't know if I saw the ending coming before the gals in the book did.

But the book seemed to just 'end'.

It wasn't a satisfied close of the book but "Really? That's it?"

It wasn't bad but I would definitely say don't expect a grand ending for it just seems to be 'wrapped up'.

Just Right!
I personally found this book to be very well written, with a few point making stories thrown in for interest, and good photography of the finished projects.

While looking at this book to purchase, I had 3 other couples with us.I had the women look at the patterns and they mentioned that the patterns were nice, but that was about it.I then showed it to the men and they all agreed, they were items they would wear without hesitation (except the fingerless gloves, they looked kinda funny at that one).Result?We women DO want to dress our men differently than they want to dress!Of course, there are exceptions to every rule, but if you have a conservative man that likes to grab the same jeans and shirt to wear then he will probably like at least 1 items in here.I can pretty much guarantee it will be the cap.It is a classic that men look for and when you are done knitting, it looks very similar to what he might pick up to buy in a store.Men (generally) don't like to wear things that obviously look hand made.

I LOVE the versatility of this book.Too many times I have picked up a yarn thinking I would love to knit a sweater from it, but don't have a pattern for this gauge and how much of a pain it will be to find a pattern or do the math to make the gauge work with my yarn.Yes, I have been knitting for over 20 years, but don't have the slightest desire to design my own pattern.Why should I?There are so many other people out there that are so much better than I am!

This book is a great resource for knitting for our men.

My favorite knitting book for men
I have 3 other men's knitting books and this one is the best, by far. My brother wanted a few things out of it immediately. My husband, whom never looks through books like this, does more than grunt when I show him projects.

I wanted to make him a hat last night so I went through a few books, patterns and looked online. After spending an hour perusing, I finally opened this book and started the watch cap. It does the pattern in different st/in so you can use whatever yarn you have handy. It works great.

If you knit for a man, this should be in your library.

Finally---knits for real guys, not fashion models.
I love this book and will be using it constantly. It is next to impossible to find good, basic, attractive sweater patterns for men in large sizes. This book does it. The patterns are versatile and come in a variety of sizes. I really like the fact that each pattern includes a chart so that you can choose from different gauges of yarn and not have to try to figure out the equivalents yourself.The main loved one I knit for is my husband. He is a big guy and in the past I have had to try to adapt patterns for 2XL and 3XL sizing. I'm never that confident that it will work and that the armholes and shoulders will still fit when I have adjusted a pattern for a much smaller man. It is such a relief to finally find patterns written with real men in mind. These are sweaters my husband will actually wear and appreciate. Thank you, Bruce!

Bruce Weinstein Gets It!!!
I have brought home countless books from the library with titles like "Knits Men Will Actually Wear" only to have my husband laugh himself silly over the patterns. Bruce Weinstein actually gets what men really want in handknit clothing - simple styles, no frou-frou cables or bobbles and yes, plain colors. Think sage green, navy, beige, gray. Do NOT think Kelly green, lapis, pink or bright red.

On the drive home from my local yarn shop, I couldn't resist reading bits of the book outloud - my husband Frank agreed heartily with everything Bruce wrote and even admired some of the patterns. My first project from the book will be the thick and warm socks - I asked him if he wanted me to make the left and right toes different, and - just as Bruce predicts in the book - Frank said, no, he had a pair like that once and it was too much trouble to keep them straight! He also wants me to make him a sweater, and he picked out the basic one over the other two, slighly fancier styles.

Bruce's directions are clear and easy-to-understand for even the novice knitter. I especially like the fact that he explains how to do a gauge swatch when you are knitting something in the round - I had to take a knitting class to learn that technique.

This is simply a superb book. Five stars!
