A fixed CT scan unit was added in 1996 and space was expanded for administration, cardiac and pulmonary rehab, mammography suite with dressing rooms, and endoscope exam and dressing rooms. Phase I of Community Health 2000 building project, which began in the fall of 1998, will bring updates and additions to the hospital laboratory emergency room, laundry, and nursery areas. Community Hospital is the only hospital in southwest Nebraska and northwest Kansas to be accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Emergency services, outpatient surgery, and community and patient education services are provided by a highly specialized team of more than 190 health care professionals and staff. Active medical staff includes five family practice physicians, a general surgeon, an anesthesiologist, and two general orthopedic surgeons. In addition, nearly 30 medical specialists travel to McCook to provide specialists clinics for area residents. Four family practice physician assistants also provide care in McCook and surrounding rural clinics..

Extractions: Interns/Co-ops and Career Services Academic Year 2001-2002 Many students participate in career related experiences - some formalize their experience through interaction with Career Services. This report only describes those who utilized Career Services or those departments who reported internships to Career Services. It does not include those who worked solely with a faculty. Placements 728 placements by 586 individuals in 378 organizations were reported to Career Services. Twenty-two individuals were in internships/co-ops for all three semesters. Of those placements reported for a specific time frame, 38% were summer, 30% spring, and 27% were fall internships. Some individuals remained with the same employer for a second or third internship; others had internships with different employers. Internships/Co-ops by College Career Services does not always receive information regarding whether Academic Credit was pursued. However, 371 of these placements were for academic credit (1,012 reported credit hours). Colleges and departments differ in their practices regarding academic credit. Some students pursue credit outside of their department or College.

The program will also provide training and education for personnel of insurance companies and industries involved in fire protection and prevention. Another important function of the program is to enhance the training of paramedics and firefighters currently working in full-time and volunteer fire departments throughout the region. Students will complete a core of courses designed to ensure they possess the base knowledge necessary in Fire Science Technology. Satisfactory completion of prescribed 42.5 semester credit hours will lead to a Diploma. An additional 18 semester credit hours of the general education requirements will result in an Associate of Applied Science Degree. The classes will be offered at night and on Saturdays on a part-time basis over a three-year period. Students whose goal is an Associate of Applied Science Degree should enroll in the general education classes before or during that time period.
Extractions: The Associate of Applied Science Degree Program in Child Care and Development is designed for students wishing to work with children from birth to 8 years of age in a variety of settings. The two-year degree provides students with the necessary skills to succeed in the job market including child development, program planning, management, creative activities and a core of general studies. After completing the program students will be qualified for any position in a child-care setting as specified by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services licensing requirements. In addition to the Associate of Applied Science degree, the program meets all the requirements for the Child Development Associate (CDA) certification. Students also have the option to complete a one-year diploma. Throughout the program, students have an opportunity to experience working with young children directly in the on-campus Child Development Center. During the final semester, students complete a student teaching experience in which they assume total responsibility for infants, toddlers, and pre-school age children.
