New Mexico's Yucca Model of Coordinated School Health Children and youth who begin each day as healthy individuals can learn more effectively and are more likely to complete their formal education. With family and community support, systemic change must occur in order to address students' barriers to learning such as health problems, lack of access to support services, and poor peer relationships. The Healthier Schools New Mexico - Coordinated School Health Approach, illustrated by the yucca plant, provides a programmatic framework for student learning. The focus is on the blossom, the healthy and successful student. The tap root is the family without which children cannot thrive and grow. The other roots represent the responsibilities that culture, education, public services, media, community, and businesses have in producing healthier students. The root system is the nurturing network which supplies the resources and energy for the yucca to grow. The leaves, which represent the components of coordinated school health, symbolize the daily opportunities schools have to interact with children on health related issues, of which there are many. Extractions: TSSA Draft (v4.0) The Collaborative for Technology Standards for School Administrators (TSSA Collaborative) has facilitated the development of a national consensus on what P-12 administrators should know and be able to do to optimize the effective use of technology. This consensus is presented by the Collaborative (November 2001) as Technology Standards for School Administrators (TSSA). The Collaborative believes that comprehensive implementation of technology is, in itself, large-scale systemic reform. Leadership plays a key role in successful school reform. The CollaborativeÕs standards, therefore, focus on the role of leadership in enhancing learning and school operations through the use of technology. These standards are indicators of effective leadership for technology in schools. They define neither the minimum nor maximum level of knowledge and skills required of a leader, and are neither a comprehensive list nor a guaranteed recipe for effective technology leadership. Rather, these standards are a national consensus among educational stakeholders of what best indicates accomplished school leadership for comprehensive and effective use of technology in schools. The standards challenge almost every school administrator in some areas, yet each individual standard is attainable by the professional education leader. Although a national consensus, in no way should these standards inhibit new development, innovation, or progress for schools or for school leadership.

Many communities increased the number of classes they offered and others were able to hold classes where they had never been before. By 1971, ABE classes were available in 38 locations. This was an exciting and challenging time in adult education. In the larger programs, however, there are now more classes offered at individual levels on specific topics. Learning centers and classrooms are often equipped with computers as well as a variety of instructional materials developed specifically for adults. Through the dedicated efforts of many teachers, administrators, volunteer tutors, support staff, legislators, and students, ABE in New Mexico is great and getting better every year.
