December 2002-City Webmaster Roundup: Inside Or Outside? Some cities, like Albuquerque, new mexico have always done well for the City of Dover, new Hampshire, according in the sense that a formal education is behind http://www.muninetguide.com/ArchivedIssues/2002/Dec2002-Feature.asp
Extractions: By Stephen Young Municipalities can design and maintain their own web sites, or they can find an outside vendor for the work. Which method is best? MuniNet recently contacted several city web administrators and asked about their experience. Of those who responded, many did the work in-house, some with the assistance of a vendor, while a couple reported relying completely on a vendor. Despite the different approaches, each municipality seemed to find satisfaction in their own arrangement. Some cities experimented with different formulas before finding an appropriate balance. In Ames, Iowa , initial reliance on a vendor didn't work out too well, according to Clare Bills, Public Relations Officer. "We started our site six years ago with only an outside firm. They were slow and sloppy and didn't edit their work. Their design also was a disaster and so we decided we could do better," said Bills.
