Pathfinder Family Center consists of two statewide federally funded education projects: Pathfinder Parent Training and Information (PTI), serving families of children with special needs and NDPASS Parent Information Resource Center (PIRC) assisting families and schools in general education. Pathfinder Parent Training and Information Center The Pathfinder PTI views parents as full partners in the educational process and a significant source of support and assistance to each other. The PTI's are funded by the Division of Personnel Preparation Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), U.S. Department of Education, "to provide training and information to parents to enable such individuals to participate more effectively with professionals in meeting the educational needs of children with disabilities," as stated in PL 98-199. PTI projects help parents to: Better understand the nature and needs of their child's condition.

OESE Home Parent Information Resource Centers FY 2001 Project Abstracts North Dakota Affiliation: PAT Pathfinder Services of North Dakota, Inc. is a statewide private non-profit organization established by parents and professionals in 1988. A volunteer Board of Directors comprised of parents and professionals in regular and special education governs it. The organization governs two projects providing comprehensive services and training for families/parents of children from birth through 21 years; and provides in-service/training for teachers, counselors, and school personnel in public and reservation schools. The North Dakota Parent Information Resource Center is one project and will complete the 4th year of the grant award on September 30, 2001 and the other program is the North Dakota Parent Assistance and Supportive Schools (NDPASS) Project. NDPASS is an integral part of an extensive statewide network that provides a variety of quality workshops and resources to schools, agencies, and organizations.

It is the mission of the State and National Teacher of the Year Programs to recognize and honor the contributions of classroom teachers. NDEA, in conjunction with the Council of Chief State School Officers and Scholastic, Inc. is a sponsor of the State and National Teacher of the Year Programs. The program is the oldest and most prestigious honors program to focus public attention on excellence in teaching. Nomination: Nominations for North Dakota Teacher of the Year must come from a teacher, school administrator, school district trustee, local education association, student or parent. Individual North Dakota schools may nominate a candidate, which means systems with more than one school may nominate more than one candidate. Administrators, county superintendents or their designees, and local association presidents will receive nomination forms in the mail in early March. Nominations are due by the end of April of each year.
