Despite the attention that this problem has received in recent years, abuse continues to occur, even in a territory of the United States (U.S.), the Northern Mariana Islands. This Note considers two legislative solutions that have been considered in the United States Congress, applying to the territory (1) U.S. minimum wages laws, and (2) U.S. immigration laws, and argues that better control over immigration to the Northern Marianas may reduce the problem significantly. In recent years, interest in combating unfair labor practices has increased in the United States. Finally, U.S. multi-national companies such as Levi-Strauss, the Gap, Wal-Mart, and Nike have established internal codes of conduct that define standards for working conditions to be met by their suppliers. Despite these efforts, the very kind of labor abuses that these groups have tried to eradicate continue. However, not only do they occur in foreign countries, but they also occur on U.S. soil.

The centers will become significant cultural and educational institutions devoted to exploring America's regional experience and how a "sense of place" infuses and enriches American history, culture, and traditions. The centers will also advance broad public participation in the humanities, encourage a wide-ranging exchange of ideas, and contribute both intellectually and economically in their regions. Extractions: TECHNOLOGY SOCIETY OF NORTH AMERICA RESNA HISTORY In 1993 RESNA left SBA to become a self-managed organization and at that time also hired a full-time executive director, James Geletka, to manage the affairs of the association. Headquarters offices were moved to the current location in Rosslyn, Virginia, in January 1994. RESNA has been successful in competing for Federal funds to conduct specific projects related to assistive technology. A most notable achievement was receiving an award 1989 of a three-year, $1.5 million contract from NIDRR to provide technical assistance to State Tech Act Projects in the areas of service delivery, funding, and systems change. In 1992 and in 1995, RESNA won additional support to continue this program. Funded currently are all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the Virgin Islands. RESNA has received additional Federal funding to develop wheelchair testing standards, to assess the manpower and training needs in providing rehabilitation technology through state rehabilitation agencies, and a three-year grant to develop culturally sensitive training materials for assistive technology. Most recently RESNA received a three year grant to provide national guidelines for education of providers and for continuous quality improvement in assistive technology.
