Excerpt: The Family Foundation School is a private, co-educational, college preparatory, therapeutic boarding school located in Hancock, New York. It was founded in 1984. The school was founded in the 1980s by Tony and Betty Argiros, who were recovering alcoholics following a twelve-step program. As a part of their own final step in the program, they took into their home young people who were recovering from substance abuse. They became foster parents to many of these adolescents and provided some with homeschooling education. After the number of foster children began to exceed the allowable limit for New York State, they sought and obtained legal status for their home as a licensed school. Over time, the school grew beyond the Argiros home into a campus that includes a main school building, boys' and girls' dormitories, a chapel, and a barn that houses livestock, in addition to food service, art and athletic facilities. In 2000, the Argiros children assumed control over the day-to-day operations of the school. The Family Foundation School program is based upon three core goals: maximize academic potential; develop spiritually and emotionally through a 12-step program of recovery; grow and mature psychologically through the 12-Step program as well as group and individual therapies. Product Description
Jenny Linsky, the famous little black cat of Greenwich Village, has never been to school before. When her master, Captain Tinker, sends her to a boarding school in the country to learn the special knowledge of cats — manners and cooperation — she is afraid, among strangers, and so far from home. As soon as she's settled in, taking off the red scarf that makes her feel brave, another student named Pickles, the Fire Cat, is up to his usual mischief, and chases her with his fire truck hook and ladder. She is terrified and runs away. Walking along the railroad tracks, Jenny catches the smell of the city: "You can have the daisies. Give me the sidewalks of New York."

Jenny soon realizes that the Captain would be disappointed if he found out she had left school. It’s then that Jenny decides to stand up to Pickles. She returns bravely and when Pickles next tries his tricks, he's surprised at the "new" Jenny. Pickles learns his manners and Jenny learns that not only can school be fun, but the friendships she makes there will last forever. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love these stories
I was given The Fire Cat book in grade school and absolutely loved it and Pickles. I was then very excited to learn that there were more Cat Club books in my school's library. I read them over and over again.I have recently rediscovered them and more!I never knew there were so many and am looking forward to reading them all. When I told me husband the concept of the stories he asked if they were all inscribed to me. :) They are just my thing!

5-0 out of 5 stars More Jenny!!!
My daughter (5) and I love Jenny. We have all the Jenny Linsky books except Moonlight Adventure. This book has Jenny meeting Pickles the Fire Cat before he had completely mended his ways(Pickles is the hero of The Fire Cat that is great for cat-loving boys and girls.) Jenny teaches him a thing or two by the end and they end up being best friends.

The price is a bit steep for the length of the book, but there are some cute illustrations that make up for the lack of length.

5-0 out of 5 stars The School For Cats
My husband and I just love these Jenny Linsky stories, and we have no kids!We had never heard of Jenny Linsky until my husband brought home a very badly beaten up copy of it from the dump of all places. We are now HUGE fans and plan on collecting all of Jenny's charming stories.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful stories by a great author
We are purchasing this series one at a time for our daughter, who is also named Jenny. She is eating them up!The stories are simple and sweet, but include lots of old-fashioned adventure, just perfect for young kids.We own several titles now and I have not been disappointed by any of them.Charming illustrations and great stories makes for a perfect combination!I recommend this series highly.Probably up to a fourth grade reading level.

5-0 out of 5 stars My 5 year old loves Jenny & her adventures!
I thought this story would be far fetched being that Jenny goes to a "camp."But she actually goes to a kennel and it made more sense to me (talking cats, cat who drives--perfectly normal to me).Nonetheless, the story keeps in balance with the rest of Averill's series. My five year old truly enjoys this series. He loves cats and enjoys the fun adventures Jenny the cat experiences. ... Product Description
A time-travel story that is both a poignant exploration of human identity and an absorbing tale of suspense.

It's natural to feel a little out of place when you're the new girl, but when Charlotte Makepeace wakes up after her first night at boarding school, she's baffled: everyone thinks she's a girl called Clare Mobley, and even more shockingly, it seems she has traveled forty years back in time to 1918. In the months to follow, Charlotte wakes alternately in her own time and in Clare's. And instead of having only one new set of rules to learn, she also has to contend with the unprecedented strangeness of being an entirely new person in an era she knows nothing about. Her teachers think she's slow, the other girls find her odd, and, as she spends more and more time in 1918, Charlotte starts to wonder if she remembers how to be Charlotte at all. If she doesn't figure out some way to get back to the world she knows before the end of the term, she might never have another chance. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Whose Life is It Anyway?
This fantasy novel made a deep impression on me 20 years ago as an adult learning to savor current YA literature.Set in England in the "present" this story involves the complex literary issues of time travel: the actual Vehicle, inevitable restrictions, the dangers of trying/or not trying to change the past. Farmer also includes such themes as sibling loyalty, sacrifice for friendship, surviving the loss of friendship, and insistence on one's true identity.

a new girl at a boarding school, Charlotte is surprised to receive words of advice from a kind, older girl, who ultimately turns out to be related to someone in her "other" past. The Vehicle proves to be her own bed, for when Charlotte awakens the next day she finds herself in the same school but 40 years ago, during the terrors of World War I.Even stranger than discovering that she is not Herself, she is accepted as someone named Clare by her peers and teachers.Doesn't anyone know she is an unwilling imposter?Ah--there is only young Emily, Clare's little sister, who suspects the truth, and becomes Charlotte's staunch ally in the past.

Each day Charlotte slips backward and forward in time, but doesn't anyone in the present realize her absence? How can she live in two
co-existing time continuums? With valiantly loyal Emily she conspires to untangle the truth; it seems that when Charlotte is in the Past, her doppelganger, Clare, takes her place in the present. The only way the girls can communicate with each other about this metaphysical mystery is by leaving notes inside a hollow, twisted bedpost.

As in any time travel odyssey, there is always the danger of becoming trapped the past--the more so here, since Charlotte's rather timid personality permits her to be almost persuaded that she is not herself at all.Is she willing to become a victim of this experience and remain as Emily's older sister? Is it wise to accept this odd twist of fate, to live out someone else's life or to surrender her own future to an unknown girl?

This proves a fascinating read, with serious literary challenges which keep the reader's mind guessing--eagerly trying to figure out reasonable explanations and logical resolutions of the temporal confusion. Farmer does a marvelous job of abiding by her own rules as three girls struggle to sort out their fate in war-torn England. How can the protagonist retain her slipping grasp on the reality of her true identity, to live with pride as Charlotte--not just Sometimes--but Always? An excellent time travel fantasy for girls of all ages!

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting read
I thought this was a very interesting read for an older child. I liked the fact that is was historical, but the switching of the girls made it much more suspenseful than just reading a story set in 1918.

I think children from about 4th grade up would enjoy this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A novel with substance
After her first night at an English boarding school, Charlotte wakes up to learn that she is no longer in her own body, but that of another girl named Clare in 1919, whose father is fighting in The Great War.

Aimed at 10-year-old readers, according to its publisher, Charlotte Sometimes is surprisingly mature, not just in content but in writing style as well. Any reader can easily see that this is a novel with substance, and that author Penelope Farmer had a great deal of respect for her audience's intelligence, regardless of their age. Charlotte Sometimes can make any reader's heart ache, not with sappy sentimentality (because it does not need to rely on such element), but because its author wrote with a kind of frankness and honesty that we do not usually find in many of today's juvenile and YA novels.

3-0 out of 5 stars good, but missing something
This book is a great idea, but, it seems that content is missing. It's as though the general idea is there, however, the author could have expanded ideas or methods in which the characters could be in contact with one another. I realize its a children's book though, so it cant be too full of information. Good book, I remembered it from my childhood and had to find it. I recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book!
17 years ago, I found this book in my elementary school library and checked it out. It had such an impact on me that I have remembered every detail of it since then. Such a magical, well-written story. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Actually pretty adorable
I was very reluctant to read this because I figured it would massacre the characters of the TV show (as well as the books). It pretty much did, but the end result was still fun to read and look at. Blair and Vanessa are the main characters, and Serena is relegated to nothing more than scenery. Chuck and Dan are extreeeeme versions of their television selves, and Nate practically doesn't exist. Nonetheless, Blair is still a hilarious manga heroine who remains lovable while acting completely off her rocker, and Chuck makes a wonderful sidekick to her antics. Even the frienemyship that Vanessa and Blair strike up is enjoyable to watch unfold.

The only story line that skeeved me out was Dan's little obsession with Blair, but I think most diehard Blair lovers will appreciate how desirable Blair is in this, haha. ... Read more
