5-0 out of 5 stars Prompt
Even though I had to return my book,at no fault of the seller, Jeff was very prompt & courteous. I would definitely do business with him again!

5-0 out of 5 stars Classroom like learning
First off no, this dose not include a simulated environment (That I`ve been able to find anyway). You must have office 2007 on your computer to actually compose and manipulate the documents in the student CD (orange cd). The Student videos(purple cd x2) are basically instructional videos that you can use you're self or set up to have many people look at them. These videos can correspond with the book work if desired for visual learning.

My local community collage required me to get this book for my introduction to computers class for my mechanical engineering degree. At present I can use most of office 2007 on vista well enough to make my documents look the way I want it to. The problem is professionalism and time spent doing it, I would not fell confident at all if I where to be employed where detailed knowledge of office 2007 is needed. This book helps a lot with that. In school we have our own simulated environment for the class room, but this book and content is almost a mirror image of the course work in terms of "this is what you need to do, this is how to do it, now go do it". I laterally only need to read it like a book to figure out how to do certain things in the various programs in office 2007. I have often used the book just like a step buy step manual for the online work for school. If I want to do specific things I need only to look at the table of contents, find the program section then find what I want to do. It's pretty much like a causal manual to office 2007, tells you want you want to know but doesn't shove it in your' face with a bunch of extra crap you don't need to know. I would say it's idiot proof but you do need to be familiar with how to navigate and search a computer. Honestly now a days I think anyone that can right click can find their way to the correct content for the book work. The included CD's give you sample documents that directly correspond to the bookand the book shows you step by step with clear short instructions how to manipulate and create certain looks and effects with those documents.

This is in my opinion, vary clear and organized learning media for office 2007. If you have the need to learn office 2007, want to increase it's usefulness to you or simple want to get use to ~correct~ or ~professional ~usage of office 2007, this product is defiantly worth looking into.

5-0 out of 5 stars Skills for Sucess - Office 2007
Bought this book for a class and it really helped me to understand more about the Office programs I use, and some that I don't. I have never used Access before (database program) but I can see how it would be helpful after reading this book. The book also delves deeper than I had previously gone before in the other Office programs. It's interesting learing about what these programs can do and how they can help you on a daily basis. This book did a good job of explaining these concepts and helping you through them via assignments with step-by-step instruction. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars good advices
This book is useful for a new worker in office. Nothing special but some practice tips.

5-0 out of 5 stars Examines Internal and External Drivers of Office Politics, and How to Proceed
I found this book extremely helpful.I'm a programmer who tends to be very results-oriented and not always concerned with the soft side of business. This book helped me to understand how to approach various sticky office situations.More importantly, the book greatly emphasized the importance of those soft skills as they relate to overall success in my career.

The book really has two strengths in my opinion. The first is that it emphasizes both internal and external analysis of the given office political situations. The author guides you through the process of stepping back from the situation and exploring first the internal factors that drove you to arrive at your initial emotional reaction. The author spends a lot of time encouraging you to think about your past, how you were raised, and your relationships with your siblings. That line of thinking makes sense, as many of those behaviors will often determine how we deal with the rest of life.

The author then forces you to examine external factors in the given situation. For example, is the super-competitive coworker really out to ruin your career, or is he secretly insecure and afraid that he'll lose his job?Is your boss really a good guy who's under a lot of stress and therefore acting a little irrationally, or is he a destructive narcissist who doesn't care who he hurts on his way to the top?Examining these external drivers for office politics helps you remove yourself from the visceral emotions of the moment.

The second thing I really like is the explanation that once you've graduated past the lower levels of your chosen profession, how well you "play politics" is just as important to the success of your career as your technical proficiency. It's an unfortunate truth, but the author explains how corporate America has moved away from the meritocratic promotion system of the past to the more politics-driven companies that we know and work for.Being starkly confronted with this fact, I can now look and realize places in the past where I may have stunted my career growth by caring more about my programming ability than my ability to comfortably socialize with my boss and coworkers.

What's really nice about this book is that the author gives real, practical advice on how to handle these situations.I was afraid that this would be a book whose answer to every problem is to hold hands with your boss/coworker/subordinate and sing Kumbaya, but thankfully, the author gives frank advice on how to deal with the various scenarios.Oftentimes, when internal and external examination reveals a truly toxic situation and not just temporary office stress, the author gives you real advice on how to notify HR (if you even should), cover your back, and extricate yourself from the situation, should you think it's time to move on to another department or company.

The tips in this book are golden. To me, the true testament of any book is when I read it and think, "I wish someone had given me this book years ago."That's exactly what I thought after reading this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars She nails it
This isn't just about the "other" people in business that you & I need to get along with. It's also about "us," why we respond as we do to particular other personalities and situations, plus practical guidelines to increase the chances of success. An easy & engaging read.Don't keep this book on your shelf: buy it, read it, and keep it under your pillow.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely Helpful Information
This book gives excellent advice about dealing with difficult situations that occur in office. The information that I gained by reading this book I am sure will help me come out on the winning side of negotiations in the future where I've come up short in the past. I've gained a better understanding as to how to maintain a sense of balance and get my point across without creating greater tension in the process. This book couldn't have come along at a better time. Thank you Dr. Puder-York for sharing this insightful information.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must read
The insight in this book is incomparable. Dr Puder York does an amazing job of discussing situations that happen in the real world and she actually coaches you through it. Her advice is a must read. I think that I have strong people skills, yet, there was a lot in this book that took what I know to the next level. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It Works
I have researched 72 books on presentation skills and Dr. Bienvenu's is without doubt the most insightful. For those people looking for concise information and guidance on conducting seminars, this workshop will take you through a step by step process that not only affords the reader the requisite knowledge but at the same time enhances one's confidence level. I have utilized the techniques and they work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ideal resource for busy professionals
I work with a small group of engineers who give sales and technical presentations to a broad spectrum of audiences. Our customer and distribution base is global, therefore presentations span the gamut from live groups of 6 - 300 to internet webinars broadcast live the world.I prepared a small workshop for our group to enhance our presentation skills in delivering the content and constructing the visual aids with MS Powerpoint.
I purchased seven books on the subject to prepare this workshop and "The Presentation Skills Workshop" is the only source that really provides a useful format to put together meaningful content quickly and easily. I was thrilled that I did not need to read 300 pages of text and then start from scratch to organize the content into the presentation for my group. I especially like the flexibility in constructing a half-day, full-day or comprehensive week long format.
Thank you for a truly useful resource.

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!
As a former student of Dr. Bienvenu's, I know that everything in this book is right on target for success in the real world.I took everything she taught me in school and use it in my career, and my presentations looked top-notch professional from the very first day.Now I'm using this book as a training guide--and as gifts for my colleagues.
Dr. Bienvenu is direct and to the point, yet she leaves nothing out.As I read this book, I feel like she is still with me as my professional coach.

2-0 out of 5 stars Too Basic -- Will work only for the inexperienced
If you are going to be teaching a workshop on this subject for any but the most inexperienced group, look elsewhere. Although well-intentioned, this material will work only for a novice audience, one which has never given too much thought to presentations or meeting management. The "communications skill model" -- around which this book is based -- is self-evident and signals that the reader will be directing his or her workshop to an unsophisticated audience. Actually, I am not even sure this stuff will work for ANY audience. It is just too simplistic. You likely already know what is being presented here -- and that to my mind is not good news. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars High level overview of a PM Office
If you are a high level executive, or someone who thinks that a project management office is right for your organization, then this book is for you. This book describes the funcationality of the PM office.Once understood, a rational decision can be made whether or not to create a PM Office.

However, if you are looking to build a project management office, and need a jump start - look elsewhere. You can get another book that will give you templates, and suggestions for specifically implementing a project office.I'd recommend a Project Management Maturity Model resource, as well.It should help you start with some important aspects of project management, then build on that foundation as the model matures.

This book may be a handy companion to give to people who want projects done, but have no clue what's involved. For instance, a financial executive may want a project done, but know nothing about scope statements, work breakdown structures, or risk management. They may think that there is no time to do these types of things. Then they blame the project manager when the project fails to be completed on time, within budget, and meet the quality standards.

This is a good book ... for the right audience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific Introduction and Great Value
This book is a terrific value for the money and provides a good introduction to PMOs.Although the book is small, it provides the basic components and steps for setting up a PMO.It's a great read for the busy individual who wants to get started.I frequently use the book as a reference.

2-0 out of 5 stars Beginners Only
This book is very basic. Those with any training, experience, or knowledge of Project Offices will not increase their knowledge here. For beginners, it is a good introduction chapter to allow you to know what you don't know and seek greater detail elsewhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good value, quick overview
This book is a good introduction to a hot topic -- the project office. It is not academic, but focuses on defining what project offices are, what value they have, and what you should focus on if you want to develop one. Its short length (under 100 pages) and low price (about ten bucks) is a real asset. In my organization we view it as a bible and checklist to see what we can hope to accomplish through our project office. It is also useful as a sales tool to convince senior managers who don't know anything about project management that the project office has value.

1-0 out of 5 stars I expected a lot more
Excitedly, I opened the package and started into reading what I expected to be a brief but comprehensive tome on how to set up a project office. After just over 1 hour, I had finished the book. The only benefit I realized from this book was the extra time left in my evening resulting from the lack of substance contained within it. This... book contained less information than one article inthe Project Management Institute's monthly magazine.... ... Read more

Product Description

Bestselling author Carol J. Buck created this innovative kit to provide you with real-life experience in preparation for your medical office career. Practice Kit for Medical Front Office Skills simulates your first two weeks on the job working in the front office of a medical practice with 46 tasks divided over a 10-day period. Each task simulates a commonly performed administrative duty and many can be performed either on paper or electronically. Printed file folders, file labels, and appointment sheets are included to make your experience as realistic as possible. Two CD-ROMs featuring actual practice management and electronic health record software help you gain necessary experience working with real-world medical office software. A companion Evolve website also features audio files with phone messages and physician dictations for completing specific tasks. It's everything you need for a two-week externship experience -- without setting foot in a medical office!

    • Contains 46 tasks that guide you through a two-week front office skills internship-like experience of print and electronic administrative exercises.

    • Each task simulates an actual administrative duty of the medical assistant, such as managing patient scheduling in a multi-doctor practice or insurance and billing.

    • Examples of actual forms and supplies are included in the kit, both print and electronically, to help you complete assigned daily tasks and support the experience of a real office setting.

    • Many tasks can be performed either on paper or electronically. For assignments on paper, you're given actual examples of forms to be completed, such as daily schedules, history and physical reports, and superbills.

    • Regular content updates are available on the Evolve website.

      • Medisoft Version 16 Practice Management software on CD-ROM helps you gain experience with front office tasks using an actual medical office software program.

      • Practice Partner Version 9.3.2 electronic health record software offers 8 daily EHR tasks you're likely to perform in the medical office.

      • A companion Evolve website includes all the necessary patient data to use with each software program, actual electronic forms used in medical offices, and audio files in MP3 format that offer dynamic practice in taking phone messages and transcribing doctors' dictations.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not much of a book
I expected a lot more than 80 pages.Much of the material is very general and descriptive. It really did not shed much light on how to read the financial statements.More like a dictionary of terms that you can get on "investopedia" on the internet.I was dissapointed.Waste of money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best kept secrets
This is very informative for people to understand Financial Statements in simple way. ... Read more
