Gentle Story
I've been gathering a collection of the Caldecott medal winners for my son and I to read together. I haven't found a dud among them. This story is so gentle just like a moonlight walk with your dad.

Great book, and recieved quick.A little disappointed in the rating of the item.There were a few more dings and marks than I had expected.

What a treasure!
This is a truly delightful book. When I bought it for my (then 26-month son) some months back, he found it "too scary" - the idea of walking in the woods at night was a little much for him, I think. However, after several months passed he asked that I read him the book again, and now can't get enough of it. He sits riveted as we learn how the child in the book goes owling with her father, just as her brothers had in the past. We learn that one needs to be both quiet and brave when you go owling, and that words don't need to be spoken to relay the excitement that one feels when owling. Best of all is the way my son lets out a gasp of excitement when at last we see the owl. This is a beautifully illustrated book and a wonderfully told story. A treasure for nature-loving children of many ages.

Delightful nature book!
this is amoung our top favorite nature books!It shows a son and father enjoying nature together, observing and interacting with nature.Captures my sons attention every time and that is a trick! (3 yrs old, active boy)The book is a story but simple.Very descriptive.Not rhyming but still very simplistic and yet richly detailed.Son has found it a little bit scary as it describes a dark night, adventure in the woods, lonely train whistles and dog howls, but since the boy in the book isn't scared and nothing bad is actually wrong or happens he just finds it a little exciting.He has begun making the owl calls with me and enjoys that part so much I have added in some extras!Great teaching about hikes, quiet when observing nature, interacting with nature and observing nature.Simple and yet a complete description of the experiences.Teaches maturity in nature watching and that it is a treat to do so for the older, well behaved child.Of course, playing outside and being in nature hardly requires quiet manners but watching and interacting with wildlife does, which is what this book addresses.

The illustrations are perfect for the story.Son likes to see what is not obvious such as a fox watching them walk by.Opportunity for mentioning nocturnal animals.Also, nice to mention that although a preditor no interaction with humans and each just pass each other by.Also, good for re inforcing being observant when in nature as what is there that is hard to see or standing queitly off to the side?

Wesley the Owl
This book was very heart warming and really made me apreciate that every living creature deserves respect, has dignity and feelings. Also, we all inhabit this earth together and it is a priviledge to be alive with all these wonderful animals! It reaffirmed the message that we all need love and understanding,even if we have feathers! It was an excellent read that made me both laugh and cry.I recommend it to everyone 12 and up. Remarkable Wesley
Never did I EVER think a book about a barn owl could be so entertaining and at the same time informative. What a lesson in the uniqueness of an owl and how courageous of Stacey to take on the responsibility of Wesley from hatchling to death. I couldn't put the book down.

Wonderful book for animal lovers everywhere!!!
I picked "Wesley" up and could not put it down, reading straight through the entire weekend. Totally captivating! This book was pitched as a sort of "if you love marley and me, you'll love wesley the owl", but its so much smarter than that. The authors incredibly unique story is in and of itself worth the read, but the combination of great logical scientific information woven into enjoyable story telling makes this one of my favorite books.

I highly recommend it for anyone who loves their pets, loves their pets like children, appreciates biology and even those who loved "Marley and Me".

Loved this book!
I am always looking for fun, easy to read, engrossing books. I especially love books about animals and their people. This book kept my attention from the beginning. It was definitely not written in this day and age but still enjoyable. Remarkable what animals can do.

I loved this book & cannot say enough great things about it!One of the best books I've ever read & I've read thousands by now.The End made me bawl my eyes out but the author does not elaborate or make it too tough for soft hearted readers.She simply has to tell the complete story of this owl she fell so much in love with & that loved her back just as much.I read The End first so I could prepare myself.I fell in love with Wesley as well & I thought of this book for days on end after I read it.Which is the true core of a great book when it remains with you. This book made me love the author as well & I am so impressed with her love for this owl & all the love she lavished on him & the great care she gave him. It truly is a remarkable love story.I have had pets my entire life & I understood everything this author wrote.I still have an old dog that is 12 now that I fell in love with as a puppy & I feel the same way about her as Stacey did her beloved Wesley.I just wish dogs could live to be 19.I discovered so much knowledge about owls, especially barn owls, that I never knew & it was all so very interesting.My work is affiliated with an animal park & one of the ladies out there works with a barn owl.The first time I saw her picture I was so drawn to this little heart shaped face & those beautiful eyes.

Owl Babies
I am especially fond of this book because I am a Small Family Daycare Provider. The sentiment of Owl Babies is sweet and engaging It's hopeful for little ones who understand mommy leaves sometimes, but always comes back. The pure joy of the reunion is blissfully illustrated. I've been reading this book to 2-3 year olds for years and I still get excited by the ending :) Also, because it's a favorite, I give a copy to each child when he/she graduates.

This is a great little book that comes with an owl stuffed toy.My daughter is having a baby and she collects owl, so this was a great book for her.She had requested the book, but I found the book and toy set and really surprised her.

Scared both of my children to tears
I was given this book when my eldest daughter was 14 months. The first time we read it, she broke into tears. After this happened again, we put the book away. Last week, my 18 month old read this book at a play group and started crying as well. This is unusual behavior for my otherwise strong girls. It just was not appropriate for their age. It is odd that a board book is recommended for 4 - 8 year olds.

Cute, quick read for my son
My son likes owls so I bought this book and "Ollie" the Owl for him for Christmas.He is two and seems really interested in the pictures and story.The story is three owls wake up and their mommy is not there, it's dark and they're scared.It's good on many levels - mommy comes back, there was no reason for all the fuss, no need to be afraid of the dark, etc.So, if you're having nighttime or separation anxiety problems, it's a good story to help reinforce that it's ok.You'd probably have to "link" the story to the issue for your child by talking to them but I think it could be a good tool.

This is a wonderful book
This book is just wonderful and we read it together quite often.We have a copy in our son's library and enjoy it very much.

This has been a family favorite for 32 yrs !
When my son was 3 this was his favorite book.We knew it by heart - he and I both, and we would laugh at owl's adventures and not so wise solutions reading after reading.My son recently turned 35 and this collection of short stories about owl has delighted his children and numerous young nieces and nephews just as it did him when we first discovered them so many years ago.They are timeless stories that don't seem to age.Treat a young person you know to the fun contained between the covers of this book and years later you may still be laughing together about some of owl's funny one-liners - because you both still remember them !

cute book
this is a cute book for preschoolers. it puts a twist on ordinary things. i bought it for 4 year old neighbor who noticed the moon seemed to move from his yard to my yard and back. his mom liked the story of the 2 bumps that appeared in owl's bed everytime he laid under the covers.

Beautifully written and illustrated
We absolutely love all the Arnold Lobel books (especially the Frog and Toad series), but Owl at Home is my 2 1/2 year old's favorite. It is consistently what he asks me to read him before bed (or any other time for that matter). The stories are very simply worded but profound. Lobel writes and illustrates wonderful little books that are sweet, smart and rich with meaning. I highly recommend any of them, but especially Owl at Home.

Cute bedtime story.
Nice interactive story that my little girl loves. This is her favorite bedtime book. Its funny she actually love it so much that she wants it in her bed with her teddy bear when she is ready to sleep.

Good-night, Owl was my daughter's first favorite book.We started reading it when she was 15 months old.The nocturnal owl tries to sleep all during the day, but is continually awakened by noisy birds, animals and insects.When darkness falls and all is quiet, owl screeches and wakes everyone up.The format is perfect for child participation in all the noisy sounds.It is fun!The art, appealing and strong in design, invites attention to details.Each new illustration has an additional figure and a variation in Owl's expression.

An epic story
"I Heard the Owl Call My Name" by Margaret Craven is a deeply moving and magical book about Mark Brian, a young terminally ill vicar, sent by his Bishop to a Native American village called Kingcome in the remote Pacific Northwest. It's a thought provoking story about the clash of two cultures and faiths and a vanishing way of life. Where the old culture is being replaced by a new cultureand alcoholism. It's also a journey of discovery about life and death and the natural versus the urban worlds. Ultimately it's about the transforming power of love and honor.
This book has an epic quality. I was haunted by it in the 70s and when I read it again recently.

Timeless
This book is accessible to people of all ages.It is profound, beautiful, human, and timeless.

Good book.Made into movie but not DVD/VHS.Amazon ad said it was on VHS/DVD.Thought I was buying a CD.Little disappointed when received and was not notified by Amazon of the difference.

When people ask me "What's the worst book you've ever read?"
I answer "I heard the owl call my name" immediately. Now I'll admit, I read this book many years ago, but it has haunted me for many years, and I always wish I could take back the hours it took me to read this terrible story.

If I remember well, it was about a vicar who had to break down rebuild a house for the dead (similar to what we know as a morgue, I forget their name for it) multiple times, and in between all of that, you had a couple side stories about natives dying, which is when the house would be used. It was said that before one dies, they hear an owl call their name, and well...

In the end the vicar hears the owl call his name and dies

Really now, if I wanted to read an anthropological story about a native tribe, complete with objective facts and little to no solid story, I would've picked up a textbook, not a novel.


This story caused me to not want to ever read again until Mr.Ken Follett's Eye of the Needle successfully broke that spell.

But in the book's defense, I was much younger when I read this, and it was for summer reading. But, there have been summer reading books that were really captivating; something this story lacks. I was even surprised to see so many people who liked the book! I guess it's just a difference in taste, so I'll put it this way: If you like stories that are thrillers, that keep you on your toes at every page, and that are jam packed with action and sometimes romance, then avoid this book at all costs. ... Time Slowed Down
A Creole man is arrested as a Confederate spy and sentenced to hanging on the bridge over Owl Creek.The rope breaks, the man hits the water and dives.Surviving a shower of Yankee bullets he escapes downriver and into the safety of a thicket.He struggles to get home and the story gets increasingly surreal.He is greeted at the gate of his plantation house by his smiling, lovely wife--but--his wife died years earlier....

Rod Steiger adopted this excellent tale for a 'Twilight Zone' Showing.It worked very well.

Unbelievable
The only thing I can say is that I cannot believe I wasted 99 cents on this "book" which in my opinion is not a book but rather a short story.

great storytelling
This is an enjoyable collection of short stories. And they really are short. As I listened to them, I recalled reading a few of them in high school English class and you probably will too.
Bierce is a master storyteller with a great command of the English language and its various literary devices. This is especially exemplified in The Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge which is his most famous short story (and the one you probably read or will read in high school). While a few stories fall short of the aforementioned, it is an overall good collection and a fast delightful read (or listen as in my case).

While not an English scholar to be sure, I must speculate that Bierce was a trailblazer in his story content (horror and bordering science fiction in Moxon's Master) and his surprise, 'twisted' endings (that now most movies incorporate ad nauseaum).

A wonderful short from 1870's
The first classical suspense, twlight zone story first written over 100 years ago. A quick page turner, excellent. The book could be found at local friends of library book sales. Be careful of buying it online. The normal sale price is $1, and online sells it for between $5 and $7.

Fascinating! Vivid Details and Surprising Story
"An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" seems to me like the type of story that a lot of people would read only grudgingly as a school assignment. That's too bad, because this definitely seems like one for the ages to me.

Curiously enough, I was led to this story by the TV show --- "Lost," one of the characters on there was reading it. Once I started reading, I was immediately drawn in by this author's storytelling power and ability to create powerful images using words. Some of the language he uses is rather high-toned and may go over the heads of some readers, but I think even if you can't completely understand it, there's quite enough that is understandable for general audiences to still work very well. (And hey --- why not crack that dictionary if you're not certain about some terms?)

The plot goes back to the Civil War and it's about a man who is caught and put to death by hanging at a bridge. As you read it, you can absolutely picture this scene in your head and understand what the main chaacter is feeling. This story has a surprising twist ending as well.


Now that I've read this, I think I may just seek out more by Ambrose Bierce. I like vivid storytelling and this certain fits the bill. ... Read more

Postive Mental Attitude for Size Matters Not!
I was introduced to this book by my 3 year old nephew when he asked me to help him with his "homework".Since he is one of the smallest kids in his preschool class and very sensitive about his size, his teacher assigned him some positive books to bring home and read with his family.Not only was the Littlest Owl one of these books, it was the one he was hoping to read with me (since I love owls).

I liked the artwork and simple positive mental attitude (PMA) conveyed by owlet Four, that I ended up buying a copy of this book for myself and to share with my nephews when they come over.The story is simple: the fourth owlet is smaller than the rest, but he does not allow his size or comments on his size from his brothers and sisters bother him.Like many other PMA stories, Four does not turn his size into an advantage.Instead he manages to survive a dangerous situation (a wind storm) by sheer strength of will.He never shows fear, he never gives up.

If you enjoyed the Littlest Owl, I've also enjoyed reading Owl Babies to both my nephews.In fact, my older nephew likes making connections between the two books by giving the Littlest Owl owlets the same names used in Owl Babies.His teacher also had him read The Littlest Dinosaur, which again is a story about somebody small who shows no fear and never gives up.

Borrowing from my favorite Yoda quote: "Do or Do Not, There Is No Try".

Beautifully illustrated
I recently purchased this book for my 2-year old (owl-loving) son and though it initially appeared to mature for him (real paper pages, longer than board books, and a real story to follow), it has turned out to be a wonderful book. It's the story of 4 owls siblings, one of whom is much smaller that the other 3. Though he is developmentally behind his siblings, owl #4 is spunky and unphased by havingto try so hard to do what they do so easily. It's a sweet story with lovely illustrations. I recommend this book to any parent, but especially to any with a child that loves birds (as mine does).

Big Message for a Little One
I love this story! As the youngest of 2 siblings who are about 10 years my elders, I could relate when thinking back to my childhood. This is a great book for any child who has siblings, but especially for the youngest child, who might struggle to do the things older siblings can do. It also has warm, cozy, beautiful illustrations that move along with the child-centered story. There is a scene of great suspense in which The Littlest Owl must overcome apprehensions and fears. laugh out loud funny
This book expands a chapter out of the author's book "A Dog Who Wouldn't Be" into a whole book. I remembered reading the other book as a kid (I'm 50 now) and wanted to read something else by the same author.It was funny enough to make me laugh out loud.The author uses very vivid descriptions that create a great mental picture. I would recommend this book to anyone lower teens and above (uses big words).You might want to read it to someone younger (my daughter loved it when I read it to her).

I have read most of Farley Mowat's books and have enjoyed them all.I started reading The Dog Who Wouldn't Be to my granddaughters, ages 6 & 7, but the humor is so delightfully understated, I had to do a lot of translating, so I ordered Owls in the Family, and it reads wonderfully for children.They loved hearing about owls and wanted to know more, so we found books at the library and visited a local nature center to observe owls.It was an opportunity for them to see how humans and animals interact, and learn something about our natural world.I highly recommend it!!

A great realoud book for children
I read this book to my second grade class and they were enthralled. I later learned our school library does not have a copy and the librarian had never heard of it. As a graduation gift I gave my students their own copy and asked them to read it themselves over the summer and share the magic with their families and friends.

A Must-Have book if you like owls...
One of the best nature/bird books that I've ever read. Lynch has the rare ability to mix science and his experiences afield into highly readable and engaging text. The book is also full of absolutely stunning images, many full page. It's printed on high quality, heavy-weight paper.This is an outstanding book and an ideal gift for birders, amateur naturalists, wildlife photographers or anyone that is fascinated by owls.

This owl teaches COLORS
I bought this book for my 3 1/2 year old son, but I think it would be great for younger kids as well. My son loves owls and the reviews of this book were really good. I think its a nice, simple story that teaches about colors and it seems like young kids would enjoy reading along and a great way to learn about colors as well as point out the different objects in the book, like the flowers or the stars. I love the owl and the colors are nice and vivid.

WOW - a wonderful introduction to color
I found this book when I typed "owl" in the search engine - my 4-year old's favorite animal.I am very impressed with this book.It is a cute story, has gorgeous pictures, and a learning tool to boot.I highly recommend it!!

Disappointing
Having just read 'Fargo Rock City' and 'Eating the Dinorsaur' I was looking forward to seeing how he would mold his particular sensibility (love of cheesey metal music + existentialist crises) into fictional characters.And for a while the book amused in a Douglas Coupland Lite kind of way.But as entertaining as some of the prose was and even some of the character details - the book never went anywhere.I know he's trying to make the point that nothing happens in Owl....but something SHOULD happen if you expect people to read about it.You expect the story to lead to something - to have the characters interact in some satisfying way but instead it just......stops. Dead.cold.Almost as if he reached his word limit and just finished the last dozen or so pages out of necessity.The ending felt like a cop out rather than some interesting tradegy that shed light on these people.I expected more.

not as good as sex, drugs, cocoa puffs
I could not get into this book, I found it very disappointing and boring. Now I'm stuck with a book I kind of hate.

Best piece of non-required fiction I've read in a long time
Klosterman's novel defies many of the conventions of novel-writing. His characters are stereotypes. There are lots of dead ends. There's a deus ex machina ending. There are some unrealistic situations. But all of it works together in a way that is very authentic and reflective.

Not the Klosterman I love
I am always weary of saying something negative about a book by someone whose writing I generally enjoy, but I was disappointed with this effort from Klosterman.Maybe most noticeably for me, Chuck Klosterman is a very funny guy and while "Downtown Owl" certainly has its moments of dark humor, it's not the Chuck Klosterman I've grown to love.My rec would be to read everything else by Klosterman before you read "Owl."...sorry Charlie.

Great story, awful ending
This is my second book by Chuck that I have read and I enjoy how he can relate settings within each scene with what may have been popular to the characters during the specific time period they are in.He really has a good flow within each story line although sometimes dragging with Horace.I also really think he is smart and funny when interviewed by people that he can relate to and be comfortable with, best example is with Bill Simmons.But this book hits a wall with the ending just as the characters did.I am reading and all of a sudden a storm hits and its complete chaos and the book is over.Nothing before it was important except for this mysterious blizzard.I was curious if I had skipped over a chapter or 6 and when I realized that i was indeed done the book and I didn't miss any I was shocked.It was as if he wrote a great story but then let someone that has never read anything he wrote prior finish it.Very odd, but with it being fiction maybe he can rewrite the ending with something, anything but a freak blizzard happening.Unless the point was that everything in the story didn't matter and that is what he was trying to get across, I find that ending completely ridiculous.With all that said, I will definitely be getting another one his books because it was just the ending that stunk and only his first fiction.Hope he doesn't read this and think I'm a critic. ... Utterly Delightful, Magical, and oh, so FUNNY!
Jill Tomlinson, the brilliant author of this book -The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark- as well as quite a few others of a similar vein, must have mainlined her inner child when developing Plop, the main character in this wonderful story.

Plop is a young barn owl.Plop is a hungry, young barn owl.Plop is a hungry, young barn owl frightened of the dark, and Plop's poor, exhausted parents are at their wits end about the whole situation.Between hunting trips & way too few naps, Plops parents -rather than forcing him to face his fear unprepared- urge him to learn as much as he can about the dark.Plop achieves this by approaching a few of the characters who happen to be within sight of his nesting tree.

Wait a minute...I need to stop.There is no way I can even come close to summarizing this story for you that would do it the justice it so well deserves.Buy the book...really!

I will, however, say that this is one of the BEST children's stories I have EVER had the privlege of reading, let alone sharing with my child.My little girl (who is 7, as of today)is very much like Plop.She's intelligent, precocious, outgoing -and dare I say it?- a HOOT!And, also like Plop, she fears the dark.The story kept both of us interested the entire time, & we shared so many laughs!And, on the last night of the story my brave little girl asked me to turn off the light...

Whether you are looking for a book to help a child deal with this fear, or if you are just looking for a great book to read to (or with) a child, I'd say this book is a guaranteed WINNER! Buy the book!

I am looking forward to reading three other books by Jill Tomlinson I bought for my girl's birthday; the ones with the cat, the otter, and the aardvark.I have no doubt they were created with the same magic as this one.Check them out.

Super Satisfied
I was amazed by how perfect this book was.It still had the paper cover over the hardcover as if it were brand new directly off the shelf of any book shop in town. All three books I bought from this company were in perfect condition.I would definitely buy from them again.

Delighful but not "unabridged"
The CD in English IS abridged.We first discovered Plop on cassette, and it ran 1 hour.This CD runs 20 minutes.It remains a delightful, short bedtime story for my 6 year old who has it memorized, but it IS abridged.I still would love to locate a truly unabridged CD that has the detail of the cassette.

A lark in the dark
Originally published in 1968, "The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark" is considered a classic in England.Now reissued with a whole new illustrator, we members of the United States finally get a chance to read this rather adorable tale.Though not a cutesy story in and of itself, illustrator Paul Howard has drawn a book that has perhaps set the standard for adorable barn owl tales everywhere.

Plop (an unfortuanate name, but whatcha gonna do?) is a small barn owl.Plop is also afraid of the dark.Though his parents attempt to inform him that there is nothing to be afraid of, he remains unconvinced.Finally, they tell him to ask various people and animals for information about the dark.From a boy the owl learns that the dark is exciting, with fireworks and such.From an astrologer he learns that the dark is wondrous, allowing us to see the many constellations in the sky.And so forth.In the end, Plop is convinced and is able to safely fly in the sky with his mother and father without fear.

If you'd like to read something to your little one that doesn't contain much in the way of tension or drama, this book's your ticket.Though Plop does partake in various escapades, none of these ever become dangerous.I was particularly interested in a section where he asks a black cat about the night.Considering that a cat would undoubtedly view a baby barn owl as a yummy snack, I was a bit amazed that nothing bad happened between the two.Nothing so much as the cat licking his chops or thinking to himself, "Boy could I go for a little fowl right now".Nuthin'.Which is fine.Illustrator Paul Howard has added pictures drawn with pastel pencils.The result is that Plop is the fuzziest, cutest, cuddliest little fluffball of an owl to ever flutter across the pages of a picture book.In addition to being a useful book for children that are afraid of the dark, it is also a good story for convincing children that owls are nothing, in and of themselves, to be afraid of.Just don't pair this story with Avi's "Poppy".All in all, this is a sweet little story with fuzzy-wuzzy pictures.Cuddly and adorable all at once, it is certain to be a child's favorite as the years go by.

Beautiful book

This is a lovely rendition of the poem - evokes beautiful peaceful feelings through the illustrations, and yet the complexities of the drawings involve so many different aspects. Children can find on each page similar fish, and other sea life as well as the special 'looking for' the little seahorse which is on every page. The scenes are active, involved, and peaceful at the same time - you find yourself able to sit on one page and discuss many things on it, or just enjoy it, for a long time. My 2- 1/2 yr old first got this from the libary and we had it for months, and then we bought it and she still loves it. Yet the board version I would purchase even if she were older! (I even had wanted this for my birthday!)

poetry for a toddler
I bought this when my daughter was 2 1/2 years old.She likes it alot and a year later still reads it occasionally.I think I enjoy it more.The illustrations are beautiful.She also really likes the repeating, the interesting bong trees, and the side story of the fish in the bowl.
It is great for bedtime.

There's an Owl in the Shower
My 9 year old grandson told me that I needed to read this book.With a recommendation of such high regard it prompted me to order and read There's and Owl in the Shower.When I read the story it was very clear that this clever author made learning about owls and particularly endagered owls into a warm and interesting story.I enjoyed the story and it also lets my grandson know that I listen when he speaks and I can learn from him.It was a nice way to spend a quiet moment and enjoy a story filled with facts about spotted owls, endangered species, wildlife, forestry, and wildlife rehabilitation .

The funniest book that also teaches respect for the environment
Every Jean Craighead George book is a wonder to share, thought provoking and great for discussing and sharing with others. Of all that she writes, this is my favorite.

Book of North American Owls
This book was my first "owl book", and I really enjoyed it, from cover to cover.It is a very short read, and a very good one.I have since read other books on owls, and it is clear that Helen Sattler's book is a very well-written and well-researched book in which a lot of good information is put into a relatively short treatise on the subject of owls.I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in owls, including older children. The writing alone is excellent.

Wonderful Science Supplement.
I bought this book to supplement a 5th grade science unit on owls, & was not disappointed. It is filled with content,details, also wonderful illustrations that are both beautiful & informative.The book creates even more interest in owls, & makes a great daily read aloud or addition to upper elementary/middle school classroom library. My students enjoy this book very much.

best non-fiction book ever!!!
This is probly the best non-fiction book I've ever read. it's packed with information and the illustraitions are beautiful. In the back of the book, there's a "glossary of owls" with short essays of a few types of owls, containing their size, call, latin name, what they eat, etc. This book is definitly a must-have.

This is a great, easy to understand, thorough book on North American Owls. I have worked rehabilitating owls and in doing educational programs with non-releaseable owls for five years. I'm using this book as an educational tool, I have bought copies to share with other wildlife rehabilitators. If you love owls and want to learn more about them, this is a great source of knowledge, the art work is beautiful the text covers just about everything that a person could think to ask. Will Little Owl find his mommy?

This is a story that's been told before, but perhaps never so beautifully and simply than in Little Owl Lost.The illustrations are basic and done in a color palette that is certainly unusual in kid's books.The colors are muted and earthy and only add to the charm of this little owl's search for his mother after he falls out of his nest.The picture of Little Owl tumbling out, accompanied by a simple UH OH is just priceless.

Kids will enjoy following along with Owl as he keeps trying to describe his mother, only to keep getting pointed in the wrong direction.The story ends perfectly with a cookie party back at the nest, but wait a minute... That little owl is looking unsteady again!UH OH. The text is spare; just enough to keep things moving along and the attention of even the youngest squiggly kid in the audience.This is a solid recommend for both group and one on one sharing for any preschooler or kindergartner.It is a great choice for any permanent story time collection.

laugh out loud funny
My son will be three this week. We go through LOTS of library books. Most are okay, and few are read for naptime AND bedtime in the same day. This is one of the special ones. I like it for its simple story and great pictures. He likes it for its hilarity. Little Owl falls out of his nest and is lost. Little Owl describes his mama as being "this big" to which squirrel helpfully replies, "yes, yes. I know" and takes him to a bear. Then Owl says his mama has "pointy ears". Again squirrel says, "yes, yes. I know, I know" and takes him to...a rabbit. Lastly they go to frog for the "big eyes". They eventually find mama and all go to the nest for cookies. Love it!
