Life on the Inside (A collection of pictures taken inside the prison) Back to Index AMNESTIES OF MADNESS There has been written a lot about the high prison sentences in Thailand concerning drugs. A good example is a life sentence for the possession of only 60 grams of heroin for personal use. Today I dont want to talk about the madness, of how the Thai amnesty system is working! What do you think? Just and fair? Far from it! In the year 1996 (2539) Thailand was celebrating the 50 th anniversary of the coronation of the King. For this celebration the Thai King was giving a generous amnesty for all inmates of Thai prisons. The way this amnesty was given was an extraordinary acrobatic act of Thai justice One example for all: Two prisoners sentenced for a drug-related crime. PRISONER ARRESTED SENTENCE SENTENCED TIME SERVED SENTENCE LEFT AFTER AMNESTY AA 1996 50 YEARS 1996 6 MONTHS 44 YEARS BB 1996 LIFE 1996 6 MONTHS 40 YEARS Now as you can see the position in rest of sentence of these two prisoners have just reversed. The dice of justice have fallen and even an idiot has to ask

DAVID RONALD CHANDLER, Rule 33 of the Federal Rules of criminal Procedure empowers the President to grantReprieves and pardons for Offenses the whole time I was in rehab he took http://www.capdefnet.org/htm_library/Chandler1.htm
Extractions: SUBMITTED ON BEHALF OF PETITIONER DAVID RONALD CHANDLER BY HIS COUNSEL OF RECORD JOHN R. MARTIN Georgia Bar No. 473325 44 Broad Street, N.W Suite 500 Atlanta, Georgia 30303 President William J. Clinton The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W. Washington, D.C. 20500 I. Introduction David Ronald Chandler petitions the President of the United States for clemency and commutation of his death sentence, pursuant to the authority of the President under Article II, section 2 of the United States Constitution. Mr. Chandlers sentence of death should be commuted primarily because there is now substantial doubt as to whether he is guilty of inducing the murder for which he was sentenced to death, but also because due to the failures of Mr. Chandlers trial counsel the jury which sentenced Mr. Chandler to death never knew anything about the remarkable redeeming qualities in his character. Everyone concedes, including the trial judge in Mr. Chandlers case, that his conviction and death sentence depended upon the testimony of the actual murderer, who, in exchange for a plea bargain whereby he avoided a capital prosecution of himself, testified at trial that he committed the murder because of a $500 offer from Mr. Chandler.

President Bush's 19-year-old daughter was issued a citation last month for allegedly drinking beer at a nightclub. She's facing a maximum fine of 500 dollars and community service. Police say she didn't appear to be intoxicated at the bar. They say the two Secret Service agents who were outside the bar didn't know Jenna Bush was inside drinking. If Vlad the Impaler knew about Orlando Bosch, he'd have belched out Bosch's name, too. Just a few months ago, Fidel Castro was regaling an audience in Havana's Plaza de la Revolucion with tales of Bosch's perfidy. In the sort of crisp, punchy speaking style that draws millions to hear him (nearly as much as the threat of execution), Castro compared Bosch to the Sept. 11 terrorists. Bosch, Castro said, was the perpetrator of a "monstrous terrorist act."

Austin Chronicle: Victor Rodriguez: Off The Hot Seat chairman of the Texas Board of pardons and Paroles Meanwhile, he earned a degree incriminal justice from who need them, Rodriguez says, the rehab programs will http://www.austinchronicle.com/issues/vol18/issue46/pols.rodriguez.html
Extractions: photograph by Jana Birchum The office that Victor Rodriguez occupied until this week is housed on the fifth floor of the Price Daniel Building, a squat, nondescript structure just west of the sprawling Capitol complex. The small room where Rodriguez, chairman of the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles, worked is as Spartan and undistinguished as the building in which it sits. The walls lack any benefit of interior decoration, and the scenery a stolid view of parking lots and buildings west of Lavaca Street is less inspiring than enervating. The only decoration that adorns the room is a small, framed, black-and-white photo of Rodriguez's police academy training class, a memento almost a quarter-century old. An 18-year-old Rodriguez is barely recognizable in the back row. The 42-year-old chairman has always felt more comfortable in a policeman's uniform than in a bureaucrat's suit and tie. After four years at the helm of a parole board that has been tossed about by controversy for the latter part of the decade, Rodriguez has accepted a job as police chief in Harlingen, a border town about half the size of his hometown of Brownsville. At $72,000 a year, the job will mean a pay cut for Rodriguez, who makes $77,500 as parole board chair; more significantly, it will also mean cutting short his six-year board appointment, which would have ended in 2001. To Rodriguez, however, it's an opportune time for the move. The Harlingen Police Department has been battered by controversy since a police officer's son shot and killed two border patrol agents with a gun taken from the department, causing a scandal which led the former police chief, Jim Schoepner, to step down in January amid accusations of mismanagement and corruption. "They need to move forward on a variety of issues," says Rodriguez, who will be the first Hispanic ever to lead the department. "That's going to be my task; to basically take it from a point where they're spinning to perhaps a point where they start grabbing some traction, and then to move them forward again."
