Interactive Physics Problem Set User's Guide bad They don't teach you anything about physics, or they I strongly advise you todo your homework problems properly Are you sure practice problems will help? http://ist-socrates.berkeley.edu:7521/projects/IPPS/UserGuide.html
Extractions: The Interactive Physics Problem Set User's Guide: College-level physics differs from many other subjects in that you cannot learn the concepts solely by hearing and reading about them. I learned this the hard way. In high school, I got A's just by taking careful notes and studying them before the test. But in college, my old study strategy no longer worked. Why not? I think it's because physics, at the college level, is surprisingly subtle. After listening to a lecture and reading the corresponding textbook chapter, you may think to yourself, "That's not so hardI understand it fine." But then when you try to apply those concepts on a hard problem, the kind of problem that appears on exams, you discover that you can't do it. When this happened to me, I alternated between thinking I was stupid and thinking the problem was too hard. But the real reason is this: In physics, the only way to learn the concepts well enough to apply them in complex situations is to practice applying the concepts in complex situations. In other words, to score well on tests, you have to do practice problems. Lots of them. And not just the night before the test.

Spencer Office: N245 ESC BYU: 378-2341 Home: 225-3492 email: spencerr@maxwell.byu.edu Office Hours: 12-1 MWF Description This is an advanced undergraduate course in electromagnetism, including special relativity. We are using a new text beginning this year, David Griffiths Introduction of Electrodynamics . I hope you like it. You'll have to trust me that it's a lot better than the one we had been using since 1959. We will also be using a small booklet on time-dependent circuits so that the course will have a little bit more applied physics in it. This booklet is available at the Cougar Copy Center off the southeast corner of campus. When I took this class Physics 122 was a dim and distant memory, so the material was a little scary. You may have the same experience, so I will try to remind you of the freshman basics as we go along in addition to covering the more advanced material that is the main object of the course. Reading the Text This is important. I expect you to read the sections indicated on the course schedule before class. At the beginning of every class period I will give you a piece of paper on which you will indicate whether you have read the assignment or not and then you will sign it in blood. Yes, this means that you can cheat, but Prof. Maeser and I expect you not to. These reading assignments will count for about 5% of your grade.

The Physics Classroom will supplement MathSoft's StudyWorks Web site (www.studyworksonline.com), a leading educational site devoted to math and science education for students in grades 6-12. The Physics Classroom, originally developed as a volunteer project in 1996, was created by physics teacher Tom Henderson at Glenbrook South High School in Glenview, Illinois. Due to the site's popularity, the server load became excessive for the school to support. Rather than dismantle the site, which receives over 1,000 visitors per day and is linked to by approximately 750 other Web sites, the school began to search for a host to support The Physics Classroom. MathSoft, the developer of the award-winning StudyWorks! product lines, was selected because of the complementary nature of its Web site, its high quality math and science software products and its pioneering use of collaborative e-learning technology to advance math and science learning.
