I laughed, I cried, I enjoyed, I have never forgotten.
All of Swycaffer's books are great, some are classic pursuit novels like Universal Prey, Warsprite, etc. This, like some of his others, is one of a kind. You'll never forget it. I told people that at one point, 3/4ths of the way through this book, I had to hold it up in front of my face, as I read it at lunch at a fast food place, to hide the tears coming out of my eyes. They said "Sounds like a sad, depressing book; won't try it." That's NOT why I was crying. I was moved, rewarded, what else can I say? It was NOT a depressing book. Kayak Anna & the Palindrome Creek
I purchased this book for my niece for her birthday and she really likes it.She hasn't finished the story yet, but has enjoyed what she's read so far.

Kayak Anna is #1 for environmental awareness and character building lessons
I purchased and read this book because I'm part of a group that is organizing a river-long annual clean-up event beginning in 2010 in the Mid-west, and thought it might be a good door prize at the various registration sites. Although I'm considerably older than the target audience, old enough to be Anna's grandfather, I learned some valuable life lessons from this book and I feel the environmental message is conveyed quite well. The adventurous story line only adds to the enjoyment of reading this fast paced book. A dog named Beisterfield and Trolls, along with the many palindromes in the story make this book a very interesting one that I would recommend not only to the target-aged audience, but to adults as well. I very much enjoyed reading this book and yes, we will pursue the acquisition of numerous copies for our event. A note to all you young fellas: Even though this book's main character is a girl, I, being a guy, think you guys would like it too. Fun Reading AND Educational!
Even as an adult, I found this book engaging and fun.It has some great lessons and it's nice to see a positive female role model in a children's book.Besides, I've been a fan of palindromes ever since Michael Palin tried to convince John Cleese that Ipswich was a palindrome for Bolten in a Monty Python sketch.

Great Book!
As an 11 year old girl, I personally could relate to the book on many levels. Anna goes through a series of events, including confronting a business for dumping chemicals into a local creek. This inspired me to care more about our local enviorment issues. The book added just the right amount of fantasy to realalistic fiction. The book also takes real life scenarios and turns them into wacky fictional ones. Throughout the entire book, they teach you different palindromes in every chapter.I would strongly recomend this to age group 9-13.

What Kayak Anna Can Teach All of Us
Attention all parents!This is a great book not only for your child, but for you to read!It centers around a very environmentally protective eleven year old palindrome-obsessed girl named Anna who owns a dog named Biesterfield and whose best friend is a boy named Xander.The story has a bunch of other characters like her quirky but lovable parents and a handful of townspeople which include; a miserly but kind-hearted Mr. Grundy and two wise women, Mrs. Niles, the librarian and "Aunt Babs", her mother's best friend, who both know quite a bit about life.Of course, no tale would be complete without a nemesis, and here, that would be Adelaide, an enemy who used to be a friend, but because of some misunderstandings and underhandedness, has had a falling out with Anna.

Anna's adventure begins at Keer Creek which is situated very close to her home.Keer Creek used to be clean enough to swim in but as we quickly find out, is currently being used as a dumping ground for toxic chemicals and large pieces of trash.This infuriates Anna and she decides to take matters into her own hands to help save the creek.Anna soon discovers there are "thin places" all over which one can occasionally pass through that can lead to other worlds and creatures that most people can't see.It is during her sojourns back and forth between these worlds that Anna learns many significant life lessons, including how to listen to the small voice which resonates in everyone's heart, if only they'd take the time to be still enough to hear it.She also learns to forgive and is taught the importance of being kind to everybody, especially to those who don't appreciate it.Anna comes to realize that she shouldn't judge others and that sometimes major upheavals in a child's family can shape their attitude and behavior towards their peers.By the end of the book, she sees how volunteering for a job nobody wants, can have a ripple effect and result in many people offering their help.Anna begins to understand that the way to instigate change in people is not by yelling at or shaming them, but by educating and helping them.

This book is a treasure, not only for its obvious environmental message, but for all the life lessons it contains.It is also quite witty in places and even contains a biting commentary on insincere politicians.Reading this book has made me much more aware of how much more I can do when it comes to keeping our Earth clean.Most of all, it has served as an important reminder that love and kindness are the answer, no matter what the question.

For a book that is supposed to be full of riddles and palindromes, malapropisms and other word games, this was an amazingly dry read at times. Certainly, there were some fun things done with language and words throughout, but these were widely separated by dull lists and explanations and other mind numbing minutiae that left me wondering when the end of it would come. What better three letter word can describe this book. WOW! I absolutley enjoyed it. While I read it was like watching a movie the one's that make you go "Oh yeah I remember him/her or that from earlier" which makes the movie or in this case book that much more thrilling. Bailey has truley created a piece of artwork as everyone else has previously stated its hard to believe that this was his first book. Kudos on the great book Bailey and the start of a new and promising career.

I can't say enough how wonderful (or should I say wonderfully "horror-ible" ?) this book is! Not only is the cover appealing (great design, by the way) but the 5 stories found inside brilliantly connect to eachother unveiling more secrets from the surrounding stories.Almost written backwards, hence a palindrome, I enjoyed piecing this mysterious, yet unfortunate, puzzle together.It is hard to believe this is the author's first book and I will be looking forward for future books written by Michael Bailey.

Different than anything I have ever read.I love horror books and this one will stay on my shelf for a long time and read more than just once.I can't wait for his next book.
