Product Description
This well-illustrated book, the fifth volume in the Axelsson Series on Preventive Dentistry, applies the concepts presented in the previous volumes to clinical practice in a step-by-step fashion. With a focus on minimally invasive treatment, the principles covered in this book ensure long-term treatment success and prevention of periodontal diseases. Specific topics covered include minimally invasive scaling, root planing, and debridement; healing of infectious inflamed periodontal tissues; repair and regeneration of lost periodontal tissues; and needs-related periodontal preventive and maintenance care. While the previous volumes were conceptualized with students and teachers in mind, this book will be an indispensable guide for general practitioners and dental hygienists as well. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic in the field
I disagree with the other reviewers. I have taught and done research in the field of Peridontology for the past 30 years. This is the best of the periodontal textbooks. Beautifully written and wonderfully documented. It is a classic.

4-0 out of 5 stars Clinical Periodontology and Implant Dentistry
the book is very thorough explaining all about periodontology. But in some chapters, sometimes the words are so complex and need to be read repeatedly in order to get the meaning of the authors. In my opinion, using the simplest word is possible the best option for every reader, especially when you are in hurry time before exam, the simplest word is making the life easier. This book is recommended by my tutors.

3-0 out of 5 stars Mixed feelings
There is a lot of information in this book, and I mean a lot. That's a good thing right?Yes and no.For being such a large, reference oriented book, this has one of the worst indexes I have ever seen. Its terrible. They obviously spent a great deal of time on the book, and its mind-boggling that they wouldn't put a good index in.As such, this is pretty much worthless for quick references. So we are left with a HUGE book, probably suitable only for perio residents, since they are probably the only ones with the motivation, obssesiveness, and lack of sanity to plow through this.Add a good index, and I'd give it five stars. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Not a textbook
Up to date information with limited scientific background and literature review. However, good quality photos and print makes the book good for understanding and explaining periodontal procedures.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a wonderful book !
If you have a big interest in periodontics, orif you are a dentist,

You have to read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars It is exciting to see the tremendous progress in the field.
Initial chapters cover diagnosis, treatment planning, and medicallycompromised patients. These are followed by chapters on specificprocedures, each procedure is covered by both chronological clinicalphotographs of specific cases, including pre and postsurgical ones, as wellas by discussion of the technique, with ample literature sitings about thesuccess level of each. The newest techniques, guided tissue regeneration(GTR) and bone grafts, are also covered, with the final chapter onsupportive periodontal care.Figures are used when necessary, along withradiographs, and a few histological slides.

There is not an excessiveamount of text, so reading about each procedure is easily accomplished, noris textbook jargon used.Unlike some surgical textbooks, the photographshave been cleared of debris and the tissue is easily seen. Each photographhas been taken from the same location (or edited to approach this) for easeof viewing, understanding the technique, and comparing of techniques.Eachtechnique is evenly handled as to its success (or failure) based on theresearch that has been done. The hardback text size is larger than normalso that the font and illustration size is comfortable for reading.

Manyof the postsurgical photographs illustrate many of the remarkable successesnow possible, especially in grafting. To their credit, each technique, even if it is not all that new, has incorporated the latest in materialsand instruments. The chapter on mucogingival considerations for theadolescent patient puts together many concepts not witnessed before;it isa very exciting mixture since it covers both orthodontics and aesthetics toallow a healthy adult periodontium.
