i was really happy with the shipment if you need your book in 2 days try expedite shipping it is really fast....the book was in perfect condition

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but superficial
I got this book because it had 3 great reviews plus there was a CD that came along with it. However, after bringing them to class/lab, I realize that the content was very superficial. I looked at my friend's perio book from Pattison (another supposed well-known hygiene instructor) and the instructions for instrumentation were so much more in depth. Although Pattison's pictures are in black-and-white, it was still a better book overall. I'd recommend buying Pattison's and skip this unless you have an EXCELLENT instructor already (which I didn't).

5-0 out of 5 stars Fundamentals of Periodontal Instrumentation
This is the best resource for teaching and learning periodontal instrumentation on the market. It is written in such a way that each small movement is reduced to exact detail so that scaling becomes an art and science. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Product Description
"Clinical Periodontal Medicine" is a major new work reviewing the vast and absorbing topic of periodontal medicine. It reviews the burgeoning topic of periodontal medicine, discussing the relationship between periodontal disease or infection and systemic conditions, such as pre-term birth weight and cardiac disease, while also examining the oral manifestations of conditions and maladies such as diabetes mellitus, HIV, and pregnancy. This is couched in a thorough review of the very best scientific evidence, presented by some of the world's leading researchers in this field. Throughout the focus is kept on the clinical applicability of these findings, harnessing this research to improve care for the periodontally-compromised patient. "Clinical Periodontal Medicine" is logically structured in three distinct parts. The first section examines the relationship between periodontal disease and systemic conditions, discussing the biological plausibility linking periodontal infection and inflammation with systemic disease. The second section surveys pharmacotherapy, considering a complementary medical model for treatment of periodontal disease and different host modulation options. The third and final section examines methods of patient care; and, in particular, focuses on techniques for managing patients for long-term periodontal and general health. Robustly intellectual, yet practically clinical, "Clinical Periodontal Medicine" will be an essential resource for periodontists, specialists in oral medicine, and physicians at the forefront of the dentistry - medicine interface. ... Editorial Review

Product Description

Periodontitis is a complex, multifactorial disease and its susceptibility is genetically determined. The present book systematically reviews the evidence of the association between the genetic variants and periodontitis progression and/or treatment outcomes. Genetic syndromes known to be associated with periodontal disease, the candidate gene polymorphisms investigated in relation to periodontitis, the heritability of chronic and aggressive periodontitis, as well as common guidelines for association studies are described. This growing understanding of the role of genetic variation in inflammation and periodontal chronic disease presents opportunities to identify healthy persons who are at increased risk of disease and to potentially modify the trajectory of disease to prolong healthy aging. The book represents a new concept in periodontology with its pronounced focus on understanding through knowledge rather than presenting the presently valid answers. Connections between genetics and periodontology are systematically reviewed and covered in detail.

Product Description
Periodontal diseases and dental caries are almost universally prevalent across the world, and oral cancer, the commonest cause of cancer in some developing countries, is a growing problem also in industrial populations. Nevertheless, severe oral disease exists in only a minority of any population, and the three volumes forming Risk Markers for Oral Diseases set out to characterize these at-risk groups and define markers by which they may be identified. Reviewing epidemiological, clinical and laboratory data, these volumes point the way towards improved diagnostic and prognostic testing, an exciting and rapidly expanding aspect of dentistry. This volume discusses in detail the distribution of periodontal diseases in the populations of industrialized and non-industrialized countries. It considers the characteristics of high-risk groups and individuals within these populations, analysing subject-based risk factors and clinical markers. Particular consideration is given to new methods for microbial screening and to the measurement of local and systemic immune responses in the host, which may lead to the development of biologically based diagnostic tests. Risk Markers for Oral Diseases represents a landmark in the reorientation of contemporary dentistry towards new goals. This volume and its companions are therefore essential works of reference for all dental professionals. ... Read more

This book has excellent pictures, and as its title clearly states, it is a step by step guide to restoring an implant.
