Excerpt: The 2008 Chinese milk scandal was a food safety incident in the People's Republic of China involving milk and infant formula, and other food materials and components, adulterated with melamine. By November 2008 China reported an estimated 300,000 victims, six infants dying from kidney stones and other kidney damage, and a further 860 babies hospitalised. The chemical appeared to have been added to milk in order to cause it to appear to have a higher protein content. In a separate incident four years before, watered-down milk had resulted in 13 infant deaths from malnutrition. The scandal broke on 16 July, after sixteen infants in Gansu Province who had been fed on milk powder produced by Shijiazhuang-based Sanlu Group were diagnosed with kidney stones. After the initial focus on Sanlu - market leader in the budget segment - government inspections revealed the problem existed to a lesser degree in products from 21 other companies, including Mengniu, Yili, and Yashili. The issue raised concerns about food safety and political corruption in mainland China, and damaged the reputation of China's food exports with at least 11 countries stopping all imports of mainland Chinese dairy products. A number of arrests occurred as a result of the scandal; the head of Sanlu, seven local government officials, as well as the Director of the Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQ...http://booksllc.net/?id=19356029 ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent information & wonderful recipes!
I purchased a copy of "How to Cook for Your Pet" when it was first available and have been using it to feed my two small dogs. They are thriving and I am happy too as it is simple to make everything in the book.
The lists of "no no" and "yes yes" foods is also invaluable.
Would highly recommend this book to any dog or cat owner!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the price
This might be a good book for someone who has never owned a dog (or cat). The information is very basic. Anyone familiar with dogs should already know most of it. Having a dog with endocardiosis that has degenerated into congestive heart failure, I am seeking low or no salt recipes to add to the commercial heart diet kibble to make it more palatable. A lot of recipes are available for free on the internet, but whether they are truly healthy for dogs is questionable. I purchased this book because it was written by a veterinarian. There are a few interesting recipes, but not enough to justify the price. Most of the recipes consisted of meat, carrots and rice, which I have already been preparing and doesn't seem like a sufficiently balanced diet. Had I been able to thumb through the book in a bookstore, I would not have bought it. ... Read more

Product Description
This report was created for global strategic planners who cannot be content with traditional methods of segmenting world markets. With the advent of a "borderless world", cities become a more important criteria in prioritizing markets, as opposed to regions, continents, or countries. This report covers the top 2000 cities in over 200 countries. It does so by reporting the estimated market size (in terms of latent demand) for each major city of the world. It then ranks these cities and reports them in terms of their size as a percent of the country where they are located, their geographic region (e.g. Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, North America, Latin America), and the total world market.

In performing various economic analyses for its clients, I have been occasionally asked to investigate the market potential for various products and services across cities. The purpose of the studies is to understand the density of demand within a country and the extent to which a city might be used as a point of distribution within its region. From an economic perspective, however, a city does not represent a population within rigid geographical boundaries. To an economist or strategic planner, a city represents an area of dominant influence over markets in adjacent areas. This influence varies from one industry to another, but also from one period of time to another.

In what follows, I summarize the economic potential for the world's major cities for "folding paperboard boxes for dry food, produce, and pet and animal food" for the year 2009. The goal of this report is to report my findings on the real economic potential, or what an economist calls the latent demand, represented by a city when defined as an area of dominant influence. The reader needs to realize that latent demand may or may not represent real sales. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Just What I've Been Looking For!!!
I initially purchased this book because it provided information about poisonous plants. My wife's annoying tabby (Bobo!) has always had a fondness for chewing on plants and I wanted to make certain I knew which ones could cause potential problems. But dealing with poisonous plants is not nearly the only thing in this book to make it worth recommending.

Seazar and Cleo's pet food cookbook is loaded with terrific recipes for my bulldog, Colonel. The poor little fellow was skin and bones the morning I brought him home after an all night poker game and didn't seem to have much of an appetite.Chef Barbaro's cookbook has changed all that. The Colonel now eats three square meals a day and I'm convinced his meals are better than those my frumpy wife puts on the table for me.In fact, I sometimes think Bessie's performed the old switcheroo on me, but she's not that clever.Of course, it could just be an honest mistake.

All in all, this is one terrific cookbook.Recipes are geared toward the delicious and healthy with meals that will get the scrawniest of dogs chowing down and maintaining healthy eating standards. And don't forget about the plants!

5-0 out of 5 stars With insights, information, and inspiration for pet lovers
Seazar was three years old and Cleopatra was two years old when these two very nice were dogs adopted from a local shelter by a seacost restaurant manager, a man who loved to cook for this appreciative canine duo. Along with many recipes compiled for a dog's enjoyment, Seazar & Cleo's Pet Food Cookbook is enhanced with insights, information, and inspiration for pet lovers everywhere. Highly recommended and informative reading for anyone who loves their dog, Seazar & Cleo's Pet Food Cookbook offers valued advice on food preparation and storage, pet ownership planning; pet safety; names; poisonous plants, pet horoscopes and more!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books i have read!
This is a great book, I found this book to be very informative, my dogs love the treats I have made from these recipes!I highly recommend it!

Product Description
The primary audience for this report is managers involved with the highest levels of the strategic planning process and consultants who help their clients with this task. The user will not only benefit from the hundreds of hours that went into the methodology and its application, but also from its alternative perspective on strategic planning relating to pet food and supplies in Argentina. As the editor of this report, I am drawing on a methodology developed at INSEAD, an international business school (www.insead.edu). For any given industry or sector, including pet food and supplies, the methodology decomposes a country’s strategic potential along three key dimensions: (1) latent demand, (2) micro-accessibility, and (3) macro-accessibility. A country may have very high latent demand, yet have low accessibility, making it a less attractive market than many smaller potential countries having higher levels of accessibility. With this perspective, this report provides both a micro and a macro strategic profile of pet food and supplies in Argentina. It does so by compiling published information that directly relates to latent demand and accessibility, either at the micro or macro level. The reader new to Argentina can quickly understand where Argentina fits into a firm’s strategic perspective. In Chapter 2, the report investigates latent demand and micro-accessibility for pet food and supplies in Argentina. The report then considers macro-accessibility in Argentina. Macro-accessibility is a general evaluation of investment and business conditions in Argentina. ... Read more

Product Description
This study covers the latent demand outlook for small pet food across the regions of Greater China, including provinces, autonomous regions (Guangxi, Nei Mongol, Ningxia, Xinjiang, Xizang - Tibet), municipalities (Beijing, Chongqing, Shanghai, and Tianjin), special administrative regions (Hong Kong and Macau), and Taiwan (all hereafter referred to as “regions”). Latent demand (in millions of U.S. dollars), or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) estimates are given across some 1,100 cities in Greater China. For each major city in question, the percent share the city is of the region and of Greater China is reported. Each major city is defined as an area of “economic population”, as opposed to the demographic population within a legal geographic boundary. For many cities, the economic population is much larger that the population within the city limits; this is especially true for the cities of the Western regions. For the coastal regions, cities which are close to other major cities or which represent, by themselves, a high percent of the regional population, actual city-level population is closer to the economic population (e.g. in Beijing). Based on this “economic” definition of population, comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a city’s marketing and distribution value vis-à-vis others. This exercise is quite useful for persons setting up distribution centers or sales force strategies. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each region and city of influence, latent demand estimates are created for small pet food. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved. ... Read more

However, the core benefit of the vehicles (e.g. telecommunications, etc.) is "consumed" by residents or industries within the world's cities. Without certain cities, in other words, the market for satellite launch vehicles would be lower for the world in general. One needs to allocate, therefore, a portion of the worldwide economic demand for launch vehicles to both regions and cities. Product Description
This study covers the world outlook for pet food and pet care products across more than 200 countries. For each year reported, estimates are given for the latent demand, or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.), for the country in question (in millions of U.S. dollars), the percent share the country is of the region and of the globe. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a country vis-à-vis others. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved. ... Read more
