Product Description
The new standard in fitness books, featuring hundreds of at-home stretches and exercises. At last, the first complete, fully illustrated compium of stretching and exercises for every part of the body, backed by the experience and medical and scientific authority of the American Physical Therapy Association. Each exercise in the book has been prepared and reviewed by a special editorial board, chaired by Dr. Marilyn Moffat, president emeritus of the APTA, and widely considered to be the preeminent expert in the field.

Broken down into three major sections, the book first offers illustrated descriptions of the structure and mechanics of each major body part, explaining what can go wrong and how to properly care for that area. A middle section provides general information on posture, body mechanics, weight control, aerobic conditioning, and maintenance programs. Each chapter references the main part of the book, the catalog of exercises.

Part 2 explains how to avoid injury through proper posture, gait, body mechanics (how we use our bodies in daily activities), bodyweight, and footwear. You also get a program of beginning strengthtraining and stretching, plus tips for avoiding injuries in sports, exercise activities, and in the workplace. Part 3 presents 200 clearlyillustrated exercises for strength (beginning level) and flexibilitythat can be done at home. Some require dumbbells or ankle weights;most need no equipment. Many are done seated or lying down, so even ifyou haven't fully recovered, you can start to rehabilitate those areasthat are ready. The illustrations are line drawings, large enough sothat you can learn the exercises easily with the book open on thefloor. This book is practical and helpful--don't wait until you gethurt to read it. --Joan Price ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars review
Greatbook for the everyday person. For a therapist, it lacks in-dept description of pathologies. But the book does mention this. For the eveyday user, it is a wonderful book that describes some of the major pathologies (injuries) and how to deal with them through exercise.

5-0 out of 5 stars Physical Therapy Book for Everyone
This is the best physical therapy book for laymen I have ever used. There are hundreds of exercises and stretches in the book. Discussions on major parts of the body are well written and very easy to understand. A book for everyone. Buy it, you will like and enjoy the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worked for Me!
I had a very frightening experience with a physical therapist and was unwilling to return for needed therapy following a broken wrist.I used this book to devise my own recovery program.I know that this is not the recommended way to recover, but, at the time, it was this or nothing. It worked for me.I stuck to the exercises and my hand and wrist are fine now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fill in the Blanks in Your Exercise Program, 8/29/10
I find this book to be an excellent supplement to fill in the blanks in my program. I was stabilizing my knees with Seated Knee Extensions with weights. As I increased the weight, muscles in the front of my hip started to hurt. I tried the Seated Hip Flexion in The Body Maintenance and Repair book and the pain disappeared.

After isometric exercises gave me enough strength to do partial curlups, I found my arthritic shoulder hurting because of the arm positions in the books I was following. The Body Maintenance and Repair book showed that curlups (crunches) could be done with arms at your sides.

Part I tells how various joints of the body work. Part II covers many things you need to know in daily living. But for me the exercises in Part III are the heart of the the book.

In summary, by clearly illustrating and giving detailed directions for a wide variety of exercises, The Body Maintenance and Repair book has provided a very useful supplement for my exercise program.

5-0 out of 5 stars Body repair manual
This is a good basic book and a good place to start if you have any kind of musculoskeletal aches and pains. The book is organized by body part (for example, the ankle, the elbow) and tells you how the area works, what can go wrong with it, and how to take care of it. The book ends with lots of exercises for each body part, which are clearly illustrated. A great first place to start if you have any nagging problems you'd like to try and get rid of, I think most readers will find it very helpful. Also notable is their other book, Age Defying Fitness: Making the Most of Your Body for the Rest of Your Life. ... Read more

Product Description

Complete and accurate documentation is one of the most essential skills for a physical therapist to develop and use effectively. Necessary for both new and experienced practitioners, Physical Therapy Documentation: From Examination to Outcome will teach and explain physical therapy documentation from A to Z.

Physical Therapy Documentation covers all of the fundamentals for prospective physical therapists preparing to work in the clinic or clinicians looking to refine and update their skills. Dr. Mia Erickson along with Rebecca McKnight and Dr. Ralph Utzman discuss documentation issues while providing a framework for the actual documentation format. In addition, Physical Therapy Documentation draws comparisons between the familiar, traditional documentation formats and contemporary models to provide a foundation for clinicians and students to use when documenting in any practice setting.

Practice exercises and case studies are provided throughout the text demonstrating note-writing across the continuum of care. This text will allow the student or clinician to produce quality documentation consistent with current standards of practice. The Guide to Physical Therapist Practice is referenced throughout the text as the model for patient/client management.

What’s Inside:
• Disablement models
• Reasons for documentation
• Documentation formats
• Documentation and patient-client management
• Discussion of reimbursement issues
• Discussion of legal issues
• Practical tips for note writing

Throughout Physical Therapy Documentation, The World Health Organization’s International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) language is used. 4-0 out of 5 stars Fair
Very concise book, best used in conjunction with a more descriptive book e.g. O'Sullivan.
Helpful mini tests with each chapter to highlight areas to concentrate study; although be aware that the letter given for the correct answer isn't always the correct answer (the descriptions of which answers are correct are right, just not always the corresponding letter).
The full length practice tests were helpful although I would have preferred them to be computer based to more simulate the real exam.
Overall a handy book that is recommended if you are looking for a book that doesn't go into too much detail as good for key point learning.

4-0 out of 5 stars Leather-bound would have been nice
This is an excellent tool to review a large body of material. It is concise and easy to get through. For some, it may lack detail. For me it was ideal, as it gave just enough information without dragging on. Also, it is very reasonably priced in comparison to some of the others.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kaplan Is The King of Testing Review
Kaplan Is The King of Testing Review

We are, in addition to being event planners, also recruiters of foreign educated medical professionals. We have recruited physical therapists for over 13-years.We have used the Kaplan Physical Therapist Exam Guide for preparing our foreign educated physical therapists for their National Physical Therapist Examination. We have used the Kaplan Physical Therapist Exam Guide for testing review by 85 foreign educated physical therapists. As a result of the Kaplan review, 70-passed on the first testing and the remaining 15 passed on the retake. While this pass rate of course made our PTs happy, it made us and our employer clients delirious!

3-0 out of 5 stars Minimal Academic Review
The book does not provide the necessary academic review. The questions were useful to review some content, but lacked depth. The price made the book a reasonable value.

1-0 out of 5 stars Go with O'Sullivan instead
I bought this book because the price was right and because the Kaplan brand is almost always worth checking out.Unfortunately, the material is not very good.

As a review text, it is inadequate. It has a few tables and it discusses a few bullet points about relevant NPTE concepts, but the information provided is not complete enough as a standalone text.(As an example of this.. when you review "correct" answers in their answer key, explanations of correct answers are justified by references to other PT texts).

As a text for test questions, it is also inadequate. There aren't enough questions and the questions they do have are generally straightforward. This text has 500 pages, but 200 of the pages are alloted to the TWO practice tests. That's an example of how little content is provided in this text.

My recommendations?

Skip this one. There are far more useful alternatives. If you need a good review text, O'Sullivan's NPTE review and study guide (available on [...]) is far more comprehensive, but it is a dry read.I hear that Giles' "PT Exam" text is an easier read, but that its test questions are easier. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT BOOK!
I am in the midst of starting my own PT practice.I had a few questions about insurance, and a few other particulars about starting this type of company. This book was very helpful, very informative, and gave a lot of references of where to go to get information.I read other reviews saying it wasn't a good "marketing" book, or the book seemed like the author was trying to talk you out of openning your own PT practice, but its not a marketing book and the author is just preparing you for possible pit-falls of the business. Excellent book if you are thinking of starting your own PT practice, I got a lot of valuable info out of it!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource!
This is an excellent resource in starting your own practice.I am using it for a project, but I would highly recommend it.It has some great practical ideas and suggestions.

4-0 out of 5 stars Use this book for creating a business plan
I purchased this book for the intent of helping me write a business plan. The book is quite useful for the purpose of starting a physical therapy business. It contains helpful service benchmarks and loads of patient forms and examples of important documents needed in preparing your business plan.I would not recommend the book if you're interested in management tips; it is geared primarily for start-ups or new businesses.Very well written and easy to understand.

2-0 out of 5 stars authors motive??
Since I had recently opened my own practice, I thought the book would give insight on where to market and some tools needed for marketing and just tips on how to efficiently run an outpatient clinic.I found this book to be not so helpful,it seemed as if the author wanted to steer anyone away from having their own practice and a lot of the reading was very vague, so... purchase at your own risk ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Bang for your student loan buck!
This is a great reference.I've used it for each research assignment I've had while in my DPT program. The book is very well organized. Each of the 16 chapters contains objectives, chapter terms, an introduction, core content, a chapter summary, and review questions. The index is also very comprehensive. The author's presentation of the content is excellent. She is able to covey dry content with the utmost clarity.I wouldn't recommend trying to read this book like a novel, but it acts as a very user friendly reference.Whether your goal is to the the "Grand-Pooh-Ba" of Evidence-Based Practice or to just be able to hold your own when it comes to p-values, this text is a worthwhile investment.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent EBPT book.

2-0 out of 5 stars peds PT text
I bought this book as a requirement for my peds course in PT school.I didn't find the book to be very well with my course, as I didn't feel they connected well. This may be the fault of the professors. It did not provide enough detail about exam/interventions, as well as development, as our course did.I wasn't able to supplement my notes well with it, so it remained on my bookshelf most of the semester. ... Editorial Review

    Product Description
Written by a leading expert in the field, this comprehensive reference text enables users to properly screen for medical disease to make an informed diagnosis. The goal of this proven text is to teach the Physical Therapist how to determine if the patient has a true neuromuscular or musculoskeletal problem and to determine the specific dysfunction or impairment. Now with a new title that reflects a better understanding of the screening process as the first step in making a diagnosis, this text provides students, physical therapy clinicians and physical therapist assistants with a step-by-step approach to client evaluation, which follows the standards of competency established by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) related to conducting a screening examination.

    • A systems-based approach to differential screening and diagnosis make it easy for Physical Therapists to find information and understand it in light of other systems issues.
    • CD-ROM with screening tools provides Physical Therapists with forms and checklists they can use in the clinical setting.
    • Case studies provide real-world examples.

    • New chapter on how physical assessment provides baseline-screening information to better explain the progression of the screening process.
    • Includes new information on musculoskeletal problems.
    • A separate chapter on pain introduces the concept of pain as a screening tool.
    • An entire section is devoted to systematic origins of pain to demonstrate how regional pain should be approached in screening for particular disorders.
    • Introductory information on the newer medical screening concepts sets the stage for how screening is presented in the rest of the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good reference
I took this course over a year ago as part of a tDPT program. I have mixed feelings about the textbook. I liked the comprehensiveness of the chapters to cover all systems. I like especially the detailed screens for each area which are very useful when I see a red flag that I am not commonly treating (ex. GI problems). I really appreciated the fetal development explanations for visceral pain radiating to musculoskeletal areas such as the shoulder and back. This book has certainly enhanced my evaluation skills. But I was surprised at the lack of good scientific referencing in the book. I think Boissinault makes a stronger textbook.

3-0 out of 5 stars Health Science Library Editor's Recommendation
This is an excellent text however we recommend Physical Signs in Medicine and Surgery: An Atlas of Rare, Lost and Forgotten Physical Signs as it is the most comprehensive resource available for practitioners and students in the clinical fields. Whether you are studying medicine, dentistry, nursing, or veterinary science the answers to even the most difficult diagnosis are in this Atlas. After you begin to use it, it can replace a half dozen books that cover physical signs. This awesome clinical text and a scut monkey house manual are all you will need for even the toughest residency and you will continue to reference it for years into the future. It is the - Must Have Book - for learning differential diagnosis.
