Great Review Book
In class, we had not gone over AP Physics B thoroughly. This book was a quick, easy and entertaining way to learn the entire subject. I was able to read the entire book twice throughout the year and it was a huge help. It's explanations of difficult concepts are great and easy, and there are many techniques it uses that are outstanding. A week before, I supplemented this book with Princeton's (which was a lot more difficult but also a stellar book) and took the exam today. I am not sure how well I did, so I cannot say if this book was influential or not, but though it had a few mistakes which were all rectified in the next edition, it is great.

Good Review Book, Lots of Typos
The book had easy to understand chapters, difficult/concept-illuminating problems and is a pretty good start in studying for the exam.
However, it also has quite a few typos.I know this doesn't sound like a big deal but a few of the typos were pretty major.Then I kind of wondered if I missed other major typos then perhaps I didn't learn some things very well or wrong.So that's just another thing to think about.Perhaps next years version of this book will eliminate this problem.

The DAY B4 AP Physics C....
Haha... just the day before AP Physics C Exam, I decided to give my brain a little rest from constant E&M preparation and surf the web for a while.
This book, based on my interpretations, lacks depth for AP Physics C.
Just like the Immortalix pointed out in the comments on author's review, there are not a lot of detailed descriptions or even some formulas on the curriculum for Physics C in the book. For instance, book only mentions inductors for a page and nothing more. Also, book doesn't even have a partial derivative (which is fairly simple) to get the electric field. If the difficulty of the AP Physics C question was just plugging the numbers in for the unknown variable, which is difficulty of AP Physics B, it would be fine. However, Physics C is not. I personaly found Princeton Review much better for AP Physics C than McGrawHill because it had lots of examples where you can get the GIST of doing the questions and also know more specific type of things that I must look for when using certain laws. 5 steps to 5 felt too fundamental oriented and lots of time I ended up searching somewhere else for an answer. As a result, McGrawHill book didn't even get a bent mark in the middle (Because I didn't open it enough).
If this book was just for the AP Physics B, hands down this book is better than Princeton Review. I found the explanations and tone of the writings much more friendly and easier to approach to.
However, I would not recommend it to AP Physics C students because you will not get anything out of it. Unless, you have no idea what Physics is about.

Excellent AP Exam Guide
I'm an AP Physics teacher, and let me tell you, this book was a lifesaver for me the first year I taught the course.The amount of information that is available via the College Board and other online sources is overwhelming, to say the least.I floundered around for awhile during my first year until this book was recommended to me by our AP coordinator.

I love that the authors were able to succinctly cover all of the topics on the AP Physics B exam (I cannot speak to the C material as I do not teach that course).The chapters are well-organized, efficient, and easy for students to read.The style of the Multiple Choice and Free Response questions in the book for is an accurate reflection of the College Board's style and students gain valuable experience by reading them.The other AP Physics Review guides out there tend to be bloated with excessive information and are not easily approachable by any stretch of the imagination.This book is far and away the best out of the various guides I've examined.

The Physics of Atoms and Quanta:Introduction to Experiments and Theory
Text is clearly written and covers relevant topics for advanced undergraduate or beginning graduate students.Problems have been relevant to text material and at a level appropriate to the written text.Beginning chapters are clearly redundant with most Modern Physics texts, but still appropriate for setting up the Atomic Physics chapters in the text.My current knowledge of the book is overwhelmingly positive and it would encourage me to recommend it to others looking for this material.

Amazon provided the text in excellent condition within their specified time frame and at their advertized price.

A rare work
This book is indeed clear and easy to read and undoubtedly useful for advanced undergraduates and I imagine it would be a good review for would-be postgraduates. It also introduces more advanced topics, such as the Klein-Gordon and Dirac equations and introduces many topical issues. Very good at conveying the mathematical 'tricks of the trade' but unlike so many texts on quantum physics, this book is actually a physics book! Not only does it deal with the mathematical structure of the theory, but it has a satisfying and detailed presentation of the experiments! It is also superbly illustrated (as all text books should be!). I find that too many authours these days seem to care more for the maths than the physics - let us not forget what physics is for! In my mind this is one of the best advanced undergraduate quantum physics texts that I have seen. It is also a great educational work - solutions to problems are provided which is essential for self-study, which this book is admirably suited for (in addition to being quite suitable for directly supporting a taught course). This book is very student friendly, a rare thing these days, and far more readable and entertaining than many other books on quantum physics.

OK book on Atom Physics
This book is very readable and very clear. It can be used in advanced undergrad courses on atom physics. It treats the development of AtomPhysics theory and experiments (Rutherford, Bohr etc.). It providesexplanations to many practical quantum problems in the field of atomphysics, so it can also be used to clarify problems in a Quantum Physicscourse. Some example problems briefly discussed in books like Gasiorowiczor David Griffiths on QF were very well explained here. Quite complete onthe subject of Atom Physics. pretty awesome
The book had everything I needed and more to score a 5 on both sections of the test. It has wonderful explanations of all the topics and goes well in-depth so that you're not missing any information or practice by the time the AP test rolls around.

Terrible book, not worth any time or money
I got this book for some practice tests before the AP exam.HUGE mistake.

First of all, the questions were nothing like what was on my test.The questions went way to in-depth for what I needed on the AP.

Second, for the questions that were somewhat realistic, the explanations for the easy ones stretched on for paragraphs, while the explanations of the difficult problems were generally 2 sentences or less.The practice tests were not helpful.

Finally, there are a noticeable amount of errors.For example, on question 13 of the mechanics section on the first practice test, the explanation says that the magnitude of one value is less than the magnitude of another value because the first value is negative.If you know anything about physics, the magnitude of any value can never be negative.

I took this test last year and got a 5 on both Mechanics and E & M.That being said, I don't believe it had anything to do with my purchase of this book (since I used it for only about an hour of practice).The majority of my practice came from the old free response questions off the college board website.

In my experience, Barron's has been the least helpful test prep book, and I have taken 8 AP exams in Foreign Language, Math, History, Science, and English.I would not recommend Barron's test prep books for any AP test taker.

If you just want a 5, don't get this book.
Do yourself a favor and don't get this book if all you want is a measly 5 on the AP Exam. Getting 5's are easier than actually really Learning for good.
You will spent countless hours trying to swim through a sea of wonderful information that the AP exam will not even dare touch. I bought the Princeton Review one and the Barrons book and was repelled quite quickly by the Barrons. Buy the PR book. This book is probably great for college physics though and I would recommend it for that. Also great if you are somebody who loves to explore beyond the required material for the sake of learning. Trust me if you know this book, getting a 5 is the last of your concerns.

Good review book, but way too detailed
I believe this book is good for people who know very basic ideas of Physics C topics.If you know the topics pretty well, but just need a refresher, don't buy this book.The explanations in this book are more detailed than my textbook (Tipler's Physics for Scientists and Engineers).For example, I just wanted to review Simple Harmonic Motion and the various equations that go with it. A good introduction to a multidisciplinary problem area
This is an excellent introduction for the multidiscipinary area that combines physics, information theory, and computer science. It starts
from very elementary material, assuming almost zero prior knowledge,
gives a comprehensive treatment of a full plate of concepts and ideas
in these three disciplines, and ends with modern coding theory and its
relationship with statistical mechanics. Personally, I have been using
this book for quite some time and it helped me a great deal. On the down
side, there is some mismatch, along the book, between the degree of
difficulty of the concepts being taught and the level of explanation and
the rigor behind it: There are some relatively simple notions and results
whose explanations are rather lengthy and detailed, whereas on the other
hand, more complicated ideas and results are sometimes explained very
briefly, leaving a lot to be desired. But in spite of this caveat, I still

I used this book along with Princeton Review to prepare for the test two months ago. The Princeton Review one is excellent, and this one is terrible. Though I can't say I got a 5 because of Princeton Review, this one is absolutely ridiculous. It has two chapters on problem solving, which are actually not very useful. The review chapters are extremely confusing, and a lot of the explanations, equations, and even basic concepts, are wrong. There are very few examples. The practice problems after each chapter are way harder than the real test, making them practically useless, and ridiculously many of the solutions are wrong too. Wrong concepts, explanations and solutions are all over the place. It also has a chapter on rotation and a whole 15-page chapter completely devoted to relativity, which aren't even on the B test except for torque, rotational statics, and the mass-energy relationship, which added up don't even need half a chapter. There are also appendices, some of which are totally useless for the AP test, like the infinite series for the sine function. This book is absolutely horrible, so don't get it.

Questions accurate of AP-style, but explanations are bad
First of all, the AP exam is majorly difficult so if you haven't put any effort in your class the test is going to be a nightmare.

The Barron's book is strong in it's practice exams.I found the questions to be of the same style and difficulty as on the AP, especially the multiple choice.And for some of the easier chapters (vectors, 1-D motion, waves), the summaries aren't too bad although the information is a little muddled.

But that's all that's really good about this book.The answers for the practice questions are to difficult to explain and a lot of the time just plain-out incorrect.They might explain how to do it mathematically and show the calculations which would be completely incorrect.Or they'd write the incorrect equations.If you're a strong Physics student most of this shouldn't bother you, but there were a few questions where the method they used to solve the problem was entirely incorrect.Also when the book tries to explain the more complicated stuff, the language is just no basic and clear.And they introduce a lot of simplified versions of the common equations, obviously meant to increase speed, but mostly just confused me.

This was the only book I used to prepare for the exam so I don't know how the other prep guides are in comparison.But I wouldn't recommend this book.

Excellent review of the Physics B curriculum.
I find it interesting that the reviewer before me -- who gave the book one star -- wrote the review on 15 May 2000, when the AP exam was not until two days later.

Having used this book almost as my primary source for most ofthe fourth quarter, I have to say it does an excellent job of what it saysit will -- helping a student prepare for the AP Physics B exam. Fromproblem-solving strategies to excellent short summaries of each topic tosample exams to even a review of algebra, the book provides everythingneeded to succeed on the Physics B exam.

With a teacher who was out witha serious illness for most of the fourth quarter, I knew I'd need extrahelp if I was going to get through the AP exam. (It's one of six I took, soit's not like I haven't experienced the "fun" of these examsbefore). I picked up this book and found myself quite happy with it, andits review of dozens of test topics definitely helped me through both myphysics class and the AP exam itself. In retrospect, I wouldn't have doneas well as I did without this review guide.

Don't buy this book!
The biggest complaint that I have with this book is that the answers explained are horrible.They are either useless or only confuse you more.I would highly recommend you to buy the REA(Research & EducationAssociation) Review Book if you can find it.The REA Review book had ananswers explained section that is quite helpful, not only telling you whyan answer is right, but why each wrong answer is wrong.I have also foundthe test questions to be much more difficult and confusing in this bookthan any review book I got and from the actual exam that I just took.Ialso found many blatant errors in this review book.For example numbers 44and 60 on exam I have typos in their answer choices.The back of the bookis different from the answer choice.There are many others that I foundand probably many more that I did not find. I am rather sorry that I wastedmy money on this book and urge you not to do so as well.
