Standard guide, still in print
This is mainly a cautionary note for prospective customers of a used copy -- this book, the standard reference text for the wildflowers of New Mexico, is in print and available from the author, or from the NM Native Plant Society (google). The current edition is the fifth. IB it retails in the $50-60 range.

That said, this is not a book for the beginner. The illustrations are pen-and-ink sketches, there is no color, and the layout is rather confusing. And it's a bulky, spiral-bound affair, not very suitable for carrying in the field. Still, this is the standard text, to the extent that Native Plant Society plant lists refer to the Ivey page number (for the current, 5th, edition). You may want to try a library copy first.
