How did this happen?
I love most everything Al Franken has done-- SNL, books, radio.AL:so really liked the other Air America CD " The O'Franken factor".

Which makes this CD all the more puzzling.It has maybe one clever and somewhat funny track, theBill O'Reilly war story.The rest of the tracks are, puzzling.They're so unfunny you wonder how they got recorded for posterity.There's 11 minutes of a Wolfman sketch, not a chuckle in the whole thing.There's a unfunny and insensitive sketch about the pillow that snuffed out Arafat.And a sketch about a crying baby that I can't figure out at all.

The CD cover art is amusing though.

War Is Indeed an Art
When David Horowitz was a young man, he believed that socialism was the wave of the future.Imperceptibly, he began to change and by the mid 1980s, he found himself on the opposite side.In THE ART OF WAR, he details how his erstwhile comrades have managed to pull off some stunning upsets, including the greatest presidential hijacking of all time, the election of Barack Obama in 2008.When this book was first written, Bill Clinton was still in office, but the techniques that he used were very much the same that would be used nearly a decade later by one who learned very well how to win the rough and tumble of corrupt Chicago politics. Just one example: Democrats suggest that guns kill people; hence strong gun control is a must.Horowitz counters that the finger pulling the trigger is the culprit, but to say that is to open the can of worms that race complicates the calculus of gun ownership versus the person pulling the trigger. Horowitz writes that it is illogical to blame the gun industry for the sociopathic tendencies of the user. As one reads of collateral issues like this, one can see that the chasm between left and right is vast and that this vastness has not stopped Democrats from claiming the moral high ground and until the right begins to refute such specious claims, then the United States will continue to elect future socialist leaders to run this country.Horowitz has written THE ART OF POLITICAL WAR to avoid that unhappy fate.

To arbitrary for my taste
I feel that the book The art of political was is a bit arbitrary. The book throws a lot of the blame at the democrats making republican look like innocent bystanders. Some of the examples and facts are thin at best. I'm still looking a book that will provide full review of the political system in the USA.

Predictably Great.
Well, I'm a bit biased here because I happen to be a fan of basically everything David Horowitz has ever written, but I love this book. In fact, I just read it for the third time and these essays, along with others appearing from this era (found in Hating Whitey and How to Beat the Democrats) are the finest he ever penned. The big advantage that Horowitz has over other conservatives is stylistic because reading him is a pleasure. There is a small amount of overlap here with Hating Whitey, but I think The Art of Political War is worth buying based on the first chapter alone which is an extensive strategic overview concerning liberals and conservatives. It shows Republicans how to switch over to the offense and stop their habit of perpetually yielding ground to the left. I do believe that Horowitz's injunction to decease calling leftists "liberals" had an effect on me personally because I quit making that mistake several years ago. I also cherished the exchange he had with Tipper Gore that he recapitulates here. Overall, Horowitz, in The Art of Political War, gives the right something which we don't appear to possess naturally: power, verve, flair, and irreverence.

Sun Tzu of the 21st Century
Former Congressman James Rogan calls David Horowitz the "Sun Tzu of the twenty-first century." He may be right. This book teaches conservatives the very techniques that the left has perfected for decades. Endorsed by Karl Rove, this book is an excellent read for any conservative who wants to learn how to win.

Brilliant political thinker at work . . .
Horowitz does a masterful job of figuring out what lies behind the Democratic Party's traditional electoral appeal.In essence, they figure out how to state their message in a short, easily understood phrase, then they all line up to repeat it.Example:Tax cuts for the rich.Horowitz uses the main essay to show the GOP how to play the same game and win.My only complaint is that he doesn't spend more time on that topic.He could have devoted an entire book to "The Art of Political War" rather than filling it out with assorted essays.Nevertheless, the essays are of high quality and worth reading in their own right. ... The down fall of the Democratic Party

Bad timing for this book considering the Bush Administration is much worse when it comes to moral bankruptcy.Yes, Bill couldn't keep it in his pants (btw what are the new figures on men cheating on their wives?), but George lied about a war (and don't give me this crap that the Intelligence community was just wrong when the Bush Admin made stuff up to make their case look better) so really I think we have to realize that our country is morally bankrupt b/c we elect people that we ultimately associate with.This "city on the hill" attitude is quite comical considering we are the most violent/sexual nation in the world yet David (hanging on the coattails) Limbaugh doesn't address are own short comings - you can't have a book about an administration w/o discussing the people that put them there.In the last 16 years we've put in an arrogant sexual deviant and a murderer/torturer in the most powerful position in the world.Does that really surprise anyone considering what we enjoy - sex and violence?

I would hope for better...
I'm not a Democrat.I did not read this book because I am.I'm not a Republican either, and I am not giving this book a poor review due to any alligance with that party.I am nothing.

And being a member of neither dominant American political party can be frusterating at times.This book is no different than any of the outlandish and childish stuff Ann Coulter puts out.The copy I read (at the Barnes & Noble) had a "Top Ten Reasons Why Republicans Suck" on the back that included such wish insights as "they're crooks," "they steal elections," (which is being a bit repititious since it qualifies their earlier statement that they are crooks) and "they lie like a rug... they lie like a dog... they lie like a dog's rug."

James Carville revolutionized the way presidential campaigns are managed.Watch "The War Room" for a good documentary on the first Clinton election.

Regardless, coming from Carville I would expect better, especially when you've so many people on the right of the spectrum making rediculous attacks... it would be good to see a party respond with calm reason and maturity.Unfortunately these people... these people of superior intellect, rhetoric, charisma, and gumption continually resort to childish name calling and sometimes it really makes me wonder how I'm not at the head of the nation.

I should give Carville and Begala credit for examining their own party and the flaws that they see.Self examination does have more to it than just name-calling.They look at the 2000 and 2004 for elections, both Bush victories for those with short attention spans, and plot out a Democratic victory (Obama's) but do so in a way that focuses on breaking Americans further and further into divisive demographics.

At least its not titled "How to Talk to a Liberal (if you must)"

Straight Talk Analysis and Take Action Recommendations
Absolutely excellent book.Starts off right from Page 1 placing the blame for our party's decline squarely where it belongs - within the 'Democratic' party.If we were victims at all, the authors indicate, it was because we chose it.It was not the superiority of the right wing agenda, it was our decision not to articulate what we stand for.Carville and Begala provide a brutal analysis of the party's 'lack of a backbone'.They also present a very clear alternative to 'business as usual'.They give us the tools to fight back.

If you love politics, you won't be able to put this book down.

Grand obfuscation of the truth
Carville repudiates his own thesis every time he steps foot on a public forum singing the praises of Hillary Clinton and the organization that gave birth to both her and Bubba: the DLC. Moreover, Carville has organized conservative Democrats to oust Howard Dean from the DNC and replace him with a conservative more to his (and the Clinton crime syndicate) liking.

While Carville is entertaining in his critique of the right, he totally misses his own marriage to corporate interests destroying this country. As a case in point, he recently signed a group letter advocating a pardon for Scooter Libby. Since Bush commuted Libby's sentence, the American people are again given a slap in the face demonstrating the double standard present for those connected to power elites within the belt-way. There is one set of laws and rules for people like Libby, Cheney, Clinton, Bush, Matlin, and Carville, and another set of laws for the rest of us.

Follow Carville's advice if you want more of the same.

In the 2008 election, the Republican performance increased (in a statistically significant way) only in the Appalachian region.Perhaps the author, who is pleased to call himself a hillbilly, should write another book, explaining why his region seems to be increasingly out of step with the rest of the country.

The whole book was discredited in 2006; November 4, 2008 was the final nail in its coffin.It should be sold only for purposes of ridicule, in a 4-pack with "Dow 36,000," "Hilary vs. Condi: The Next Great Presidential Race," and "88 Reasons the Rapture Will Be in 1988."

A whine as a swan song
I couldn't be happier that Zell Miller is out of the US Senate.

And this was quite a vanity whine as a final word, or what I hope is his final word.

Like many swan songs by overbearing political types, and media gasbags, Miller tells a series of shaded or half-truths to convince the reader that everything has gone sideways, and that GOP = Good, Democrats = Bad.

Manifesto calls us to to return to our founding principles
In his manifesto, World Net Daily founder Joseph Farah encourages Tea Partiers to unite, not around leaders but around the principles of the Declarations of Independence and the US Constitution.He calls for citizens to center the debate around our founding documents and principles and work toward holding an out of control government to its Constitutional limitations. Predictable
This book is exactly what you would expect: A far-right, religion-based, Obama-bashing, Socialism-baiting screed. Save your $10. Better yet, donate it to the Southern Poverty Law Center in Birmingham. The author is very predictable. He bashes president Obama's credentials as a professor of constitutional law by quoting a piece from Obama's book "The Audacity of Hope" and then claiming not to understand it. He pushes fundamentalist religion as a basis of Tea Partyism, instead of following the more reasonable approach of preferring that each individual follow his own freedom of religion. The Tea Party already has a religious doctrine set out for you to follow. The author asks whether Socialism is constitutional and arrives at the expected answer of "no", conveniently neglecting to note that Socialism is an economic system, not a political one. Socialism correctly understood as such is no more or less compatible with the Constitution than is Capitalism. Political systems incompatible with the Constitution are Fascism, Communism, Monarchism, and Anarchism. The Guide to Political Strategy
The Way to Win: Taking the White House in 2008 describes the recent campaign and political strategies over the past 20 years or so. John Harris and Mark Halperin with background experience combined within the past 4-5 presidential campaigns describes how the various failures and wins from the Bush's and Clinton's have prepared the nominee's for president of 2008 to win the White House. Harris and Halperin also discuss the emergence of the ever evolving media, how the New Media has sharply polarized media into radical factions on each side and how candidates should conduct themselves to prevent deprecation from the voters.

Overall with all the various insights into campaigning and politics both authors succeed in providing an realpolitik view without any preference towards ideology. The research involved is fairly accurate, with most information coming from news articles or interviews. I wouldn't say its the modern day Machiavellian work, but Machiavelli would certainly have enjoyed it. For political junkies looking through an objective eye, its perfect. For the person who takes a subjective view at politics, you may not be able to rise above the occasion to take a new view of politics and learn the strategy of politics.

The Way to Win: Taking the White House in 2008 is my first attempt to understanding the Political System. I found it very informative in some back history I have missed in my American Education....great history lessons on Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, George Bush, Democrats and Republicans. This book is a great start.

This book is okay, but these guys are not too brilliant in predicting the future, as they do not mention, a single time, some guy by the name of Barack Obama.

Interesting Book and Easy to Read
The majority of this book is very interesting and easy to read.I gave it three stars because the last third of the book begins repeating itself and spends too much time discussing Hillary Clinton's chances.I really enjoyed the look back at political history and the strategy used to win elections and defeat opponents.This book would be better if it was shorter.If you are interested in strategy or presidential elections, then I recommend this book.The chapters are short and it is well written.

Great book - politics today, like it or not (hope you don't)
For one who lives outside the US, here's a book that makes you dive head-first into how US politics are done today. Will these techniques spread to other countries? With a few adjustments, they most probably will.
Learning about how Kerry's announcement was shrinked to a short novel about his hairdo sure makes you laugh (c'mon, let's have have some sense of humor...) as it also makes you think about the future of Democracy... and about its essence. In the end, hasn't it always been about emotional appeals, abotu the small stuff that makes each voter tilt left or right? ... Read more
