nice, but could be better
This is a very nice book.However, it would be more kid friendly if they would just give you ALL the patterns to copy and cut on the dotted line, rather than give you ONE pattern with directions to cut 2 or three. Small kids learning scissor skills can't do this. ... Read more

Excellent tool to help 2 year olds learn how to get dressed
I highly recommend this book (and the entire Teach me About series by Joy Berry) to teach a 2 year old about getting dressed. They are at the age that they want to be dressing themselves, and seeing the nice pictures and simple sentences helps encourage the confidence they need to do it themselves. great craft book
I found myself having to unexpectably homeschool my kindergartener.This book has been great to come up with craft ideas to help feel like they are not missing out on school.It is categorized, but not necessarily grouped in ways I would think of, still helpful though.Items can easily be obtained from a store, or saved up as you use other household things, ie toilet paper rolls, egg carton.

Good for Kids
This product is fairly orgainzed and clear about the materials and step by step procedures for the activities. The only thing is that I wish there was more organization with the age groups in each cateogory. Besides that, it is a great purchase!

Nice resourse
I bought this book for my daughter, who has two small boys. They love arts and crafts and this book has plenty of great ideas. Well organized and plenty of variety. Directions are simple and illustrations are heplpful. She loves it.

Awesome Hands on Activities for teaching Literary Elements
Scholastic has excellent resources.This is one I am able to use with Elementary and Middle School English languge students as they learn the elements of a story.The activities are engaging and easy to follow.It's great book to have in your teacher Tool Kit.

Pretty good but time-consuming
The activities in this book at great for getting students excited about their independent or class novels.The projects do take some time to complete.Great to use every once in awhile but not everyday.

Great for differentiation!
I am using this book with some high third grade readers.They love the chance to do something more open-ended other than read a book and answer worksheets.Try it!

Great for Middle School Teachers
This is a wonderful resource for middle school reading teachers. Hands-on projects make books so much easier to comprehend for students and this book has great, fun ideas. Can Be Adapted to Any Book!
This book is full of literacy center menus to use with any fiction or nonfiction books. You can easily change these menus to fit the books that you already have available in your classroom. My students love these literacy centers!

Disappointing
My impression of this book was that I could, more or less, just copy the pages and put some basic materials together.However, I have to make sure that I have the right poetry, historical fiction, etc. books in order for students to complete the activities.Many of the suggested books are too long for students to do during centers and others are not at my students' interest and/or reading level.

This book definitely has some good activities for students to work on but the huge drawback is that there is a very long list of books that are needed in order for students to complete many of the activities.Most of the activities that do not require specific books are things teachers already have access to anyway (i.e. Creating a Story Chart).Bummer. ... The best activity book for toddlers 12-24 months
I really like this book a lot!It doesn't require me to go out and buy a bunch of craft supplies- Jackie Silberg just gives basic, simple ideas of games and activities for my 17 month old.Are the ideas revolutionary?Well, no... but it really has helped a clueless mom like me just come up with some things to do!Sometimes when you are home with a baby all day, you start running out of ideas.It is nice to have a simple reference book for times like these.Some items in the book are:"cook" with your baby by shaking apples with cinnamon and sugar in a plastic container, make pop up toys, open junk mail, etc.

Not impressive
This book is full of not much.There are a handful of interesting, thoughtful games, but mostly it is totally ridiculous, like - go outside and feel the wind in your hair and hold a worm in your hand, or build a tent indoors with a sheet draped over a couple of chairs.Maybe useful to someone who has never played before, but there is almost nothing in this book that is new or interesting for any parent who was once a child or has spent even a minimal amount of time around children.Not worth the money.

Disappointing
I was diappointed in this book.I expected a whole bunch of ideas for simple games.What I got was a book which spells out what we already do with our daughter.
The "games" consist of things as obvious as pointing to a toy and naming it then having your child point to their toys as you name them.I mean, who doesn't know to ask thier child "Where's your kitty toy?" or doing this little piggy with them.
Those are not "games" so much as simply interacting with your child.And I certianly don't need a book to tell me to do that!
