5-0 out of 5 stars A "Must Have" Working Guide for all men over 50!
This is a wonderful resource for all men aged 50 and over, whether or not you have been diagnosed with prostate cancer. It is organized in a very logical format, from normal male anatomy and physiology to the problems men have which are "benign" and then goes into the entire work-up, diagnosis, treatment and survival options for men with prostate cancer. It has an unbelievable index and is filled with useful information for finding a physician that will listen to your needs and wishes.I especially liked the chapter on diet and nutrition. The entire book is easy to read and understand and is surprisingly positive and hopeful.I was fortunate to receive this book from my doctor, but I am buying and recommending them for everyone I know, now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Saving your sex life
Saving you sex life is an outstanding book for anyone having surgery or radiation treatments for prostate cancer.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Truth about your sex life and prostate cancer.
I met the author at a prostate cancer convention in Los Angeles, in Sept. 2009.His book was given to every man attending. His seminar was excellent and his book is excellent.
He remained for over two hours after his seminar to answer every man that had a question. He describes himself as a "Penus" doctor.Amen! He tells you everything your urologist neglected to mention.Such as; just because a doctor tells you a certain percentage of men were able to obtain an erection after treatment does not mean they were able to penetrate or complete intercourse.Another:the real side effects from radiation do not show up until after 18 months or two years. Buy the book, for $[...] you will learn how erections and ejaculation works. Most important, you need to read this book before you decide what treatment to get for prostate cancer.I wish I had, but at least now I know what to expect.Get the honest truth about what different treatments will do to you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Prostate Cancer Advocate/Mentor
An excellent, well explained book dealing with the continuing problem experienced by prostate cancer patients and partners but rarely sufficiently explained by physicians treating this insidious men's disease.

At age 53, I was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. It was in June 2005 that my PSA was 23.5 with a Gleason of 7. All 12 cores of the biopsy had cancer, 2 up to 75%. I knew action had to be taken, but what would I choose? Based on the current trend in medicine, I decided to go the holistic route. My research concluded that I had over 95% probability of recurrence. Therefore, in my use of holistic treatment, in conjunction with traditional treatment I got tremendous results. But sadly 9 months after treatment all signs indicated my cancer was back. I was able to discover a holistic treatment that reduced my PSA 100%. ... Read more

This book is very helpful, especially when the author lists all the valuable supplements that can be taken. My husband has an enlarged prostate which is very common in men his age. 3-0 out of 5 stars Advanced Prostate Cancer and Me
This would serve as an excellent resource for those looking for alternative treatments to help fight prostate cancer. The book is very short - only about 40 pages of it are actual content, and the rest of the book contains copies of articles. Through this book, Mr. Goldstone shares his struggle and journey from beginning to end; including how he learned he had cancer, and all of the drugs and therapies that he tried along the way.I would have given this book three and a half stars, if that had been an option.I would take off a half of a star for the grammatical errors throughout the book, another half for lack of content, and the last half for lack of research to support his ideas and strategies to fight cancer. But it does not seem that it was the author's intent to present a scholarly work on advanced prostate cancer, but rather to share his journey with the hope of helping others. If you, or someone close to you has prostate cancer, then I highly recommend this book. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars And so it goes
This book provides an extensive overview of the treatment options for prostate cancer. It cleared up a number of misunderstandings which I had.

4-0 out of 5 stars The best for seed implant understanding, plus more
This book is the best I've seen on seed implant therapy, enabling patients to understand it, and answering questions. That's not surprising as the editors, who also co-author several chapters, are among the national leaders in implementing and researching this technology. The book also takes a comprehensive look at other therapies, with leading doctors contributing. Its viewpoint and language are patient-friendly.However, there are a few areas where the coverage is thin.As veteran of intermittent triple androgen deprivation, now a five year survivor, I would have liked more on blockade as a pre-and post-therapy booster, mentioning tradeoff decision tools like the Kattan nomogram from Memorial Sloan Kettering. While Proscar was described as sometimes causing ED problems, the book did not mention that usually it does not, even increasing testosterone often when used without the heavy-duty blockade drugs. The book does not mention blockade as primary therapy, but this is understandable as that has not yet been extensively documented.A good chapter on nutrition and supplements does not note several sobering, cautionary studies on use of flaxseed oil.It also effectively brushes off selenium, omitting persuasive evidence of safety at 200 mcg, and not noting that large areas of the country are deficient in this key nutrient. It does not capture late-breaking studies that have further emphasized the role of lycopene, likely due to press deadlines. However, these are relatively minor matters for a book that will be a great help to many patients and their supporters.I would strongly recommend this book, especially the chapters on seeds.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must read for anyone diagnosed with Prostate Cancer
While this book covers all aspects of prostate cancer, it focusses heavily on seed implantation. Its a great resource for this. I've been treated by one of the authors in Seattle. This book can help you evaluate different treatment options with the up-to-date facts.

5-0 out of 5 stars HereareAnswers to Most Questions about Prostate Cancer
I wish this book had been available when I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2003.Like many men who suddenly learn they have prostate cancer, I had a thousand questions and spent countless hours searching the Internet and libraries for some answers. This newly-published guide will greatly reduce the emotional turmoil of men (and their loved ones) who are anxiously seeking information about prostate cancer and the choice of treatments to fight this life-threatening disease.
This book has a unique question-and-answer format. The questions -- from patients just like me -- are answered by nearly two dozen doctors from all across the U.S. who are experienced, up-to-date experts in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer. This impressive 224-page compilation is the creation of the Drs. Peter Grimm (no relation), John Blasko, and John Sylvester, principal physicians at the renown Seattle Prostate Institute, and pioneers of radioactive seed implants to combat prostate cancer. All the basics are covered in this book -- from PSAs to prostate biopsies -- as well as side-effects such as incontinence and sexual dysfunction during and after the various treatments, whether surgical removal, radiation, or hormone therapy.Especially welcome (and difficult to find elsewhere) is information about the effects of certain vitamins, dietary supplements, and foods on the prostate in regard to cancer.A brief but very worthwhile chapter deals with the ways wives or partners can assist their men who are fighting prostate cancer. Also valuable in helping you find the best physician to treat you is a chapter entitled "What Should I Ask My Doctor?"Data from scientific studies is included where meaningful, but you are not overwhelmed by statistics (which soon become dated because of ongoing improvements in prostate cancer treatments). This is the ideal and easy-to-read "first" book for any man who learns he has prostate cancer. It's also perfect for anyone seeking information who is a family member one or knows someone with prostate cancer. Also, I've personally found it of great use for knowing what to anticipate in the months and years ahead after my recent (and, so far, successful) treatment for prostate cancer. ... Product Description

John Hallenborg did get tested for prostate cancer and is fully recovered today, thanks to "the healing processes of time, a great doctor, and loving family and friends." Life, Sex, and Prostate Cancer Surgery: How One Man Healed and Was Made Whole is his story.

Hallenborg at last found a way to both medical and emotional well-being. With sardonic humor and psychological acuity, he tells of his experiences and feelings while dealing with "the big C"— the physical toll of the treatment, the fears of its effect on his sex life, and the other diseases that intruded along the way. Life, Sex, and Prostate Cancer Surgery is often graphic, always unflinching, sometimes hilarious, and ultimately uplifting. For anyone facing prostate cancer themselves or involved in the life of someone who is, it offers helpful information and hard-earned reasons for hope.

Insightful, funny, candid, informative and life affirming, this book is a must-read for any man (and the people who love him) who is facing prostate cancer, or may be avoiding being checked for it.The human understanding, wit and wisdom found in this book were not easily come by, but were obviously earned by the author through his experience.

Product Description

Sexual dysfunction presents a major challenge to physicians who take on the task of treating men with prostate cancer. While curing the disease and saving a life is paramount, improving technologies and therapies offer skilled surgeons and clinical oncologists the opportunity to eradicate the disease without compromising sexual function. In Sexual Function of the Prostate Cancer Patient, John Mulhall and a panel of internationally recognized experts on prostate cancer and sexual function assess in detail the current state of prostate cancer treatment. The authors offer a broad overview of the pathophysiology and treatment of erectile dysfunction in men with prostate cancer, reviewing the latest findings regarding erection-sparing radiation therapy and sexual function outcomes after laparascopic and robotic prostatectomy. Additional chapters discuss intra-operative maneuvers to minimize post-operative erectile dysfunction and pharmacologic penile preservation and rehabilitation. Timely and authoritative, Sexual Function in the Prostate Cancer Patient is a highly readable guide to preserving post-prostate cancer sexual function that no urologist or radiation and medical oncologist should be without.

1-0 out of 5 stars You Are Hearby Warned
After reading this book I tried a couple of items recommended by this author. BE VERY CAREFUL BEFORE TRYING ANY OF HIS RECOMMENDATIONS! Mason recommends taking 300mg a day of Beta-Sitosterol for Prostate problems. He tells us it is safe to take and there are minimal side-effects. Fortunately, I didn't take the entire 300mg pill. I took about a quarter of it. After a while I felt so crappy I was sorry I took it. Another recommendation is Progesterone. Mason suggests rubbing 1/8th tespoon of progesterone in a cream onto your private parts. Again he tells us it is safe. Fortunately, I only took a fraction of that amount and rubbed it in. I almost lost my mind! I felt so weird I was ready to call a doctor! I'm scared to try anything else. Hormones are very powerful. Tiny amounts are needed to accomplish its goal. How Mason can recommend the amounts he does should be criminal. I don't care what qualifications Mason has or how smart he is or how many studies show a particular result none of them I repeat NONE OF THEM will tell what effect it will have on YOU. This is try true not only for the Mason's of this world but for any and all who suggest pills of any kind be it prescription, over the counter, or natural. Standardization doesn't work in a non-standard world. Each of us has different standards. I, for instance, am allergic to shell fish. I get sick with as little as one bite. Here we're talking about far different creatures and we have no idea what they will do to us. The cure may be worse than the disease. Mason's ideas may work for you but I'd be leery of trying them at the recommended doasge from the start.

5-0 out of 5 stars Miracle
My Dad suffered with prostate problems for years. He was on antibiotics daily for several years. He had a cystoscopy and every other procedure you can imagine. He took all of the medicines prescribed religiously. His situation was so bad and he was in so much discomfort he was going to have to retire.

Then, God led him to Roger Mason's "The Natural Prostate Cure". At this point, he had nothing to lose. He purchased ALL of the suggested vitamins, minerals, etc. There are a lot of them. There is no need to try this regimen if you aren't going to be committed and follow-through. I think during the first 3 months there were over 40 pills a day. BUT ---- In three months, he was noticing a difference. Now, four years later, he still follows the maintenance regime.

He had an appointment last month and the doctor is amazed at the difference! This is the same doctor that was recommending radical surgery! Now, his physician keeps copies of this book on hand and gives them to patients in similar situations.

Amazon only allows us to give 5 stars.... If we could, we give this book a THOUSAND stars!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars This Book Changed my Life
I read this book after reading the author's Macrobiotic Diet book. When I read these books I was in intense pain from a gout attack that had dragged on for weeks and wouldn't respond to the usual medical treatment. These gout attacks had become more and more frequent, coming about every six months or less at that point in time.I also had a kidney stone attack at the same time, which caused even more pain.My feet were always in pain even when there was no gout attack.

After reading these books, I followed the Macrobiotic Diet.I stopped eating meat and dairy and eggs, and stopped using any kind of sweetener.I ate whole grains and legumes as my primary source of food, with fresh vegetables and fruits to supplement them.I also ate some fish.I took the supplements that are recommended in this book.

Within two months I had lost 30 pounds. The gout and kidney stone problems went away.More than a year and a half has gone by since this occurred.During this time my feet stopped hurting.I have had no gout attacks. My cholesterol is normal, and I had my first normal uric acid test ever (when uric acid levels rise, and mine was always high, gout is almost sure to come).

I have urged everyone I know to read this book and Macrobiotic Diet.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read this book first!!!
Before any man diagnosed with Prostate Cancer signs up for a radical localized procedure such as having their prostate removed, radiated, frozen or microwaved, he owes it to himself to read this short book. Its hopeful message and some further research have led me to adopt the program it proposes in leiu of more conventional radical localized prostate treatments.I feel good!

2-0 out of 5 stars Wrong half the time
This book is rich in useful facts, errors, and misguided opinions. If you have the technical expertise to separate out the "chaff from the grain", then you probably don't need this book.Useful facts include: prostate cancer is preventable and better treatable without castration or prostatectomy, diet plays a major role in the health of the prostate gland, testosterone is not the enemy in prostate cancer but rather the imbalance between estrogens and testosterone in the aging male.

Errors in the book include: lycopenes from tomatoes are useless for prostate health (p.17).The Mediterranean lifestyle, which incorporates abundant tomatoes, has been shown to help prevent prostate problems.Since Mr. Mason has no formal training in a health related field, he is overly confident in his opinions, like calling the Harvard study in a major peer reviewed journal showing the value of tomatoes in reducing the incidence of prostate cancer "asinine" and "paid advertisements".Another error is that flax oil is a reasonable substitute for fish oil in prostate health. In fact, flax oil is inefficiently converted to fish oil (EPA) in the human body.He says that you must cut fat in the diet to 10% of calories.Meanwhile, both Eskimos and Mediterranean people consume a diet of 60% fat and 30% fat respectively without any significant prostate disease.Mr. Mason tells us to stay away from nightshade vegetables, like potatoes, tomatoes, and peppers.Which is very disconcerting for the Inca civilization, the largest and most advanced civilization in the pre-Columbian Americas for 300 years, where potatoes are the staple of the diet. The descendents of the Incas today still live actively into their 80s off of nothing but potatoes. Mr. Mason cautions us to never take more than 250 milligrams per day of vitamin C (p.13).Which would make a fruit smoothie toxic and the thousands of doctors who inject up to 100,000 mg of vitamin C to help sick patients all wrong.

While conventional therapy for prostate cancer may be hazardous to your health, this book is wrong at least half of the time. For the sheer entertainment value of how opinionated an uninformed lay person can be, this book is worth the read.

Product Description
Although prostate cancer is a disease that strikes nearly 200,000 men every year, it is a disease that has been shrouded in silence, in part because it strikes at the very core of masculine identity. But in Man to Man, bestselling author Michael Korda breaks that silence, turning the story of his illness and recovery into a candid and instructive book that speaks not only to every man and woman whose life has been touched by prostate cancer but to everyone who lives in fear of it.

With unsparing frankness, Korda describes how he survived the ordeal of prostate surgery and its painful and humiliating aftereffects. He tells us how tumors are graded, evaluates different treatments, and makes sense of prostate cancer's mystifying "numbers."Practical, immensely readable, filled with information, and, above all, hopeful, Man to Man is literally a life-saver. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Frightening
I bought this book for a relative about to undergo prostate surgery. I am so glad I read it before giving (I decided not to) it to him. It is all bad news..........mostly complaining about the catheter/bag after surgery. Certainly not a make-you-feel better book for someone in this situation. However, it does give good doctor advice and terminology.

3-0 out of 5 stars Out of date and self-centered
I don't think I would have wanted to read this book before my surgery. Even making allowances for Michael Korda's self-absorption and wealth, the plain facts of his case are scary. On the other hand, it was illuminating to see Patrick Walsh in other than uncritically worshipful light.

Readers should understand at least a couple of things: (1) This book is at least as much about Michael Korda as it is about prostate cancer. He is candid in his description of his own shortcomings, but there is still a strong look-at-me undercurrent. (2) The technology and practices have changed dramatically since his diagnosis ten years ago. My nerve-sparing surgery was triggered by a PSA of just 4.6 and a thorough biopsy. The incision was only 4 or 5 inches, with dissolvable stitches. Anesthesia was general, with minimal blood loss. I was home two days after the surgery. Recovery (I'm less than a week post-op) has been uncomfortable but quite doable, with a terrific wife but without private nurses or special privileges.

There are better, more thoughtful books out there, though this one was fun to read after my surgery. There are also many helpful Web sites.

The advantage men have today is that there are many alternatives in treatment. This can also pose a great burden; it can be hard to make the final decision amid all the conflicting advice. The books and Web sites help. Just don't use Korda's book as your only guide.

1-0 out of 5 stars Tells more about Korda than about prostate cancer
Unless you are especially interested in Michael Korda, I strongly agree with those other reviewers in recommending that you DO NOT read this book before you decide on treatment or before you have surgery. The author of this book is a very sad case and far worse off than most opting for surgery. This book is worth reading AFTER surgery and you have begun to recoup a little. You'll at least feel good that you're not as bad off as this self-centered schmuck.
For good personal accounts of surviving prostate cancer read Bert Gottlieb's and William Martin's books. Both of these books are deeply reflective and filled with hope and useful information. Also Robert Young's Phoenix5 web site has very useful personal accounts.

5-0 out of 5 stars To be read several weeks after your surgery.
I had my surgery four weeks ago and found Mr. Korda's book fascinating to compare with my experience. It's an easy book to read and goes into the details and fears that other books mention in passing.Although Mr Korda's experience was a bit more dramatic than mine (I experienced relatively little pain and came home to an empty house after 5 days in the hospital)it was still interesting to me to compare how the surgery is done by the leading expert in the field at Johns Hopkins with how the surgery is performed at Baylor hospital in Dallas and to compare post surgery advice etc. Simply because he recounts an experience that was difficult for him is no reason to avoid reading this book.If nothing else, it gives the reader an idea of some of the questions to ask your surgeon. I was given a copy of the book by a stranger sitting next to me at my first cancer support group meeting and have enjoyed reading it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gripping
This is a gripping book that starkly conveys his emotions upon learning ofprostate cancer as well as his experiences deciding treatment and theprocess.I could not put it down, but can understand how others find it adisturbing read ahead of dealing with this problem. ... Read more

There are books about prostate cancer but too few that approachthe subject of intimacy, let alone include it in the title. Mr. Hitchcoxnot only takes it on but with an even rarer - and much-needed - sense ofhumor. (How often do you learn the year/make of a writer's car in"About the Author"?)

Although Mr. Hitchcox is a firm advocateof including the companion in the process, I was pleasantly surprised tofind "The Wife Gets to Speak" at the close of the book where hisspouse gives her perspective on the ordeal. More first-person books shouldtake this route because this disease affects more than the man.

The bookis short, laced with cartoons and a fast-read but perhaps exactly what mostnewly diagnosed men need. At that early stage, one doesn't have muchattention span. There's also good resources, a list of questions for yourdoctor and a good, workable index. And don't let the year of publication(1997) stop you from getting it. He gives an attitude that will be neededas long as there is treatment for this disease.

I enjoyed the book wellenough to wonder why it isn't listed at more Web sites. It will be at minewith a recommendation to get it - as I did - from Amazon.com.

"[This book is] outstanding, well-written, and should be read by all men and women."--James Lewis, Jr., Ph.D., Executive Director, Education Center for Prostate Cancer Patients

Erectile dysfunction is a frequent consequence of prostate cancer and other prostate disease treatments. Though unwelcome and embarrassing, it doesn't have to end a couple's sex life. Both informative and practical, Intimacy with Impotence gives couples cause for hope. It discusses impotence in lay terms, provides information on the commercial therapies and medications both available and being researched now, and gives practical advice about lovemaking-from getting in the mood to commonsense suggestions to erection-less satisfaction. Written with complete honesty and compassion by a prostate cancer survivor and his wife, this is the essential resource for couples trying to reestablish intimacy and sex in the face of impotence. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A must read
This book is a must read for a couple who has just undergone surgery for prostate cancer.Although I had already read some of the information elsewhere, it would have been handy to have had this resource earlier after surgery. It is also beneficial to have this resource for both patient and spouse.

3-0 out of 5 stars DEE
Our impression of this book is neutral. Books generally are based on the opinion of thier writers. We were hoping for a more "emotional, psychological" approach to the issue. This book makes a fair attempt.

5-0 out of 5 stars Change your perspective of life after PC surgery!!
This book makes you aware of many things nobody told me would happen after I had PC Surgery.Your whole system changes and without help it is difficult to live a normal decent life with your spouse.I should have bought it immediatly after surgery, 3 years ago, but didn't know about it until 2 months ago.
We Survivours of PC should unite to help others with the tremendous resources like this book and many others.Read the book, it will get you back on the right track.Love life is not over after PC!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Helping others
I read this book to assist a friend that is trying to deal with his ED issues. He is single. I think that this book had addressed issues that are faced by married men as well as single men. I would like to see more books on this topic as it relates to single men because I believe that many single men believe that this limits their ability to have a fulfilling relationship with the opposite sex.

5-0 out of 5 stars A book for any couple
My wife and I are in our 70s with children and grand-children. We have had a very happy marriage, but did not really talk alot about our sex life together. I had surgery 18 months ago for prostate cancer and afterwards experienced impotency. This book was immensely helpful in working through this problem. We read sections together and felt that we could have used it years ago. We have better communication now than we ever did. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is my 'bible'.
I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in April 2005. My prognosis was very bleak, an inoperable T4 tumour, and I was expected to have only a few years of life left.
However, within a week of that shocking news I discovered the work of Prof.Jane Plant while researching this illness.

I am convinced that doing so saved my life. On hearing of her own successful fight against breast cancer I ordered her book, "Your Life In Your Hands" from Amazon.
Her thorough research and deep scientific knowledge shone out at me like a beacon and I immediately changed my diet and began following her recommendations to fight cancer.

The next week I bought "Prostate Cancer: Understand, Prevent, Overcome", and that book became my 'bible'.
I strictly adhered to the principles of Jane's strategy for battling prostate cancer, and my whole diet became based on the information and recipes I found in her other excellent book "The Plant Programme".

I have waited 3 years to feel confident enough to write this review, because now, after combining my oncologist's conventional medical treatment plan of hormone therapy and radiothery alongside my living by The Jane Plant diet, I have had a truly remarkable outcome.

On Tuesday 13th May 2008 my oncologist told me my latest test results. He was both amazed and delighted that having agreed I could stop all treatment 6 months ahead of schedule, my PSA was at a normal, low level (1.1ng/ml), my testosterone was that of any healthy male, and all this after 36 weeks of no anti-cancer drugs whatsover.

His words to me were: "Whatever you are doing...Don't change a single thing!".
I have no doubt at all that finding Jane's work really did save my life.

Thank you Jane, and to anyone out there who has just been diagnosed with PCa may I wish you a similar happy outcome, and I would urge you to take a look at thse books. I thank my lucky stars that I did.

5-0 out of 5 stars It is not only for men with Prostate cancer
You don't have to have or have had prostrate cancer to benefit from reading "The Lovin' Ain't Over."
You don't have to have ED (erectile dysfunction) to "enjoy" reading this book.

Yes, if you are a prostrate cancer survivor (as I am ), this book should be on the top of your "must read" list.It has virtually all the information you need to "re-establish" the intimacy that prostrate cancer has placed on hold.

But "The Lovin' Ain't Over" has more to offer. This book is a "key" to opening a dialogue between loved ones.It is for anyone (best read by both men and women together) who wish to rekindle the "fire" of youth, to capture and hold again the true meaning of love.True, not necessarily in the same way as before, but certainly (and for me and my wife) a new intimacy -- "better than ever".

Any couple who wishes to grow in this important and essential aspect of their relationship can find something enriching in this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Coping With Errectile Dysfunction
COPING WITH ERRECTILE DYSFUNCTION

Errectile dysfunction, orE.D. as referred to in tv ads, is a condition many men experience as they age. It is also often a side effect of surgical or radiation treatment of prostate cancer, something one in five men will likely experience. It can also be related to diabetes or heart conditions.

Even though help is available, many men feel too self-conscious to do anything about or even discuss it with their doctor. They see the loss of their "manhood", an embarrassing and private matter. It needn't be and help is available.

Ralph Alterowitz developed prostate cancer. After surgery he, like I have done in previous columns, talked about it openly with individuals and to groups. He and his wife Barbara found that people most needed to discuss the effect of prostate cancer on their sexuality. Their book, The Lovin' Ain't Over, published in 1999, serves two very important functions.

The first part shows that sexuality is not just about intercourse or orgasm. This may be a radical idea for some men, since from adolescence on, most men thought and were taught sex was only about those. The Alterowitz's focus on intimacy, both emotional and physical. They focus on the fact that all of our body has sensitive and pleasurable responses. They share enjoyable ways of touching and pleasuring, not just those we generally associate as being sexual. Their three key words for romantic and sexual health are: communicate, communicate, communicate. They outline various ways of courting and showing affection, that don't need to end in intercourse. They point out that men can still experience arousal and sexual enjoyment, despite the effects of surgery or other illnesses on their sexual response. It may be different, both in experience and intensity, but it is still there if they learn to recognize, adapt to and enjoy it.

They stress that sexual function is related to more to humanness and love between partners, than to a man's ability to have an erection or to climax.

In many ways their ideas on sexuality and communication parallel and complement the excellent book, Sex Is A Thirteen Letter Word published in 1995 by Bill and Carolyn Chernenkoff, sexual therapists in Saskatoon.

The second part of The Lovin' Ain't Over, outlines various options for coping with errectile dysfunction, including medications like Viagara, vacuum pumps and injections. Many new options, both with respect to surgical techniques and new medications are currently being developed. The authors are careful to point out the side effects and risk of various forms of treatment, being careful not to endorse any themselves. They stress that men need to consult their physician, as all the treatments, including vacuum pumps, require a doctor's prescription.

Many of the mediations they discussed in their 1999 edition were not available yet, but were at different stages of the required testing and clinical trials required before release. Because of this, the Alterowitz's are currently working on an updated edition of their book, which I look forward to seeing.

They don't take complete credit for the book. They researched their topic well. They talked and interviewed many couples about their sexual adjustments. They consulted researchers and pharmaceutical companies for accurate information. They even include a feedback sheet for readers to send in. I have talked with Ralph by phone and am impressed with the couple's desire to help men find ways to deal creatively and effectively with the subject that is just becoming okay to talk or write about.

5-0 out of 5 stars What everyone should read after prostate cancer treatments
A must read for every man and women dealing with the "aftermath" of prostate cancer treatments. It answers the question of "what now?" openly, honestly and with a sense of humor. A true key tosurvival for couples who want to maintain a loving relationship. This bookalso gives the reader a complete rundown on available therapies andmedications for erectile dysfunction. It gave me and my husband moreinformation and ideas than any other source. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What YourMay Not Tell You About Prostate Cancer
Nothing puts fear into one's heart like your doctor's words "I am sorry to be the one to tell you this, but you have cancer."
Even more fearful is that not all specialists take the time to understand his or her patient's medical condition to provide adequate information.Making wise decisions about your treatment is very difficult when medical professional, in whom you place your health and life, do not provide the viable options. That was true for me. I chose to study this disease for 6 months (with my doctor's consent) before making my treatment decision. This book, along with a couple of others on the topic, really made the difference for me. If you think you may have prostate cancer, or even if it's in your family history, you must read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars What your Doctor May not Tell you About Prostrate Cancer:by Glenn Bubley,MD
Superb book, clearly written and extremely helpful to someone like myself with prostate cancer. As a physician and patient, I was impressed by Dr. Bubley's common sense and perspective. When warranted, he offers hope but not false hope .His style makes the reader feel as if he is in the room talking to you. This book is a wonderful achievement not just for the author but most of all the patient fortunate to read it.

Product Description

MRI Atlas of Prostate Cancer analyses high-resolution MRI scanning and dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) MRI. This combination improves the diagnosis and staging of prostate cancer and may soon replace PSA testing and digital rectal examination. The first two chapters focus on normal anatomy, anatomic variations, benign disease and intraprostatic tumors. The subsequent chapters on MRI of extracapsular disease create a useful atlas of pathologic anatomy. This is the first text of its kind to show color-coded DCE-MRI scans of prostate cancer and to correlate these imaging findings with tumor grading. The chapters on the post-treatment prostate clearly display the increasing incidence of post-therapy recurrences. This book is intended for internists, radiologists, radiotherapists, oncologists, urologists, family practitioners, and general surgeons. Ultrasound, MRI, and radiotherapy technicians will find it extremely useful as a reference guide.
