Product Description
For the past 20 years, rational-emotive therapy (RET) has been employed by consultants to help bring about changes not only in the way parents and teachers manage mental health and educational problems of school-age children, but also within organizations and families. This is the first book devoted exclusively to the applications of RET in consultation.

For the first time, international experts reveal the ways that RET can be applied at different levels of consultation -- client-centered, consultee-centered, systemic-centered -- to help identify and overcome obstacles to effective consultation. This volume reveals the missing link to effective consultation, namely, the emotional problems consultees bring with them to the practical problems with which they are faced. Rational-emotive consultation methods are ideally suited to help give consultees empowerment over their emotional problems. In addition, RET is an ideal adjunct to be included along with behavioral and organizational consultation methods already in use.

Written largely for school psychologists and consultants who work in educational and mental health settings, this book demonstrates the variety of ways that RET can be used to conduct in-service and professional/personal development programs for teachers, parents, school administrators and other professional groups. It is also a unique resource for practitioners working with the emotional, behavioral and learning problems of school-age children, and looking for new and effective ways of incorporating caregivers in the treatment of these children.

Product Description
School psychology, according to the contributors of this unique volume, is an approach to problem solving, not simply a setting- specific profession. Following Lightner Witmer's original notion, the editors lay a foundation for the field of school psychology in "nontraditional" settings.

Such nontraditional practice stems from data showing that school psychologists display skills and abilities that can be applied successfully to a variety of client needs in numerous settings. This special book directly affects both the practicing school psychologist and those in training, as well as professionals and students in clinical child psychology, counseling, and educational psychology.

Product Description
Since the first edition of this book appeared over a decade ago, school psychology research, knowledge and skills have expanded and yet the field continues to face challenges. The book’s model continues to be taught and to impact on professional development in school systems in many countries. The aim of this substantially revised and expanded edition is to strengthen service delivery models by incorporating primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention, for the benefit of students, parents, educators, and present and future school psychologists. Major questions addressed include:

• What can school psychologists do to enhance students’ learning and psychosocial adaptation?

• Why is it advisable to adopt a consultative model of service in education?

• How can school psychologists assist educators in planning effective school-based programs and services?

• How can school psychologists support the adaptation of multicultural school communities?

The book provides practical assistance to school psychologists who wish to free themselves from the narrow constraints of testing, assists them in identifying the models, skills, and tools they need for fostering a consultative approach, and provides them with useful information for implementation. ... Product Description
In times of great change and chaos, we flail against the suffering and difficulties in our lives. In This Divine Classroom: Earth School and the Psychology of the Soul, psychotherapist, Marcia Beachy, develops the broader view that planet Earth is a classroom for human evolution. Through past life regression (PLR) research with her clients, Marcia postulates that this "outpost" on the edge of the Milky Way Galaxy is providing unprecedented soul maturation opportunities as momentous choices are being made.Incorporating in-depth PLR work and material from the interlife (afterlife) perspective, Marcia skillfully unravels some of the mysteries of the soul's choices and what it hopes to learn from the challenges and joys of life. Fascinating stories unfold over eons of time depicting the soul's long journey of evolution. The reader begins to gather a sense of the soul's psychology, often shockingly different than that of our personality self. In addition, Marcia gently challenges us to a reinterpretation of our reality and to courageously see the new Earth School curriculum before us. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This Is a Guiltless Path
This book illustrates beautifully the polarities of the human experience, about which we attempt to reconcile ourselves. The author does not attempt to hide behind her words, but rather, to illuminate the divine in our humanity. To read this book is to glimpse inside the soul of Marcia Beachy. Her psychology of the soul includes story-telling and poetry, the places where the soul resides, and yet, is also the product of a clear and uncluttered mind. There is not a single word misspoken, unnecessary, or without purpose. This book feels, therefore, like a "fullness" that can't be explained by any other word.

As a grief counselor, I never dismiss anyone's sense of experience or that person's interpretation of what such experiences mean to that person. I've heard too many stories to discount anything, no matter how strange such perceptions may seem. The reader is therefore encouraged to keep an open mind to what this book reflects about our multiple lives (of many layers) and what the lessons learned are all about. "Stay tuned to your own inner sense as you let yourself contemplate your possible past lives. Much information sits delicately on our edges."

The book deals with the concept of regression therapy, with an introduction to the concept in various religious traditions, a middle that includes case histories of three different people, and conclusions and summaries concerning lessons learned. This revelation came to the author: "This is a divine classroom and this is a guiltless path." Ultimately, this is a book about healing on an individual and cosmic level, with the understanding that to truly be who we are, we need to acknowledge the dark as well as the light within ourselves. "We grow as we learn not to polarize our thinking and sense that at some level grace abides in all things."

When we are in the midst of our grief and loss, it is not always easy to remember the reason for our pain, or that "Beautiful sunsets are created from the `difficulties' of dust and clouds." But in the end, this book brings us "home," to our authentic selves, our spiritual, divine selves, and the fearless hope and triumph that no devastation or death can ever destroy.

Editorial Review

Product Description
The provision of early childhood educational and psychological services has been an area of considerable growth over the past 25 years. As a result of far-reaching trends in both public policy and clinical practices, there is a growing need for professionals appropriately trained to address the assessment and intervention issues involved in early childhood programming. To take advantage of current opportunities for extending their role and to meet the challenge of early childhood service delivery, school psychologists must expand their professional skills and broaden their knowledge base.

With the publication of this volume, the Advances in School Psychology Series changes to adopt a specific thematic focus and include reviews directly related to a common theme. This volume studies the subject of early childhood education and treatment directions. The chapters address a range of specific topics and research representing advances in the field of early childhood services for school psychology -- allowing school psychologists to examine and integrate current information from multiple perspectives -- educational and sociological as well as psychological. Topics that collectively represent important developments for school psychology include current early childhood education program models, preschool handicapped children, parental involvement, peers and socialization, stress and coping, and computers and young children. To date, more efforts have been directed toward devising and validating instruments that predict failure or success among preschoolers than on designing and evaluating approaches for treating them. Although assessment is critical for meeting individual needs, the primary emphasis of this volume is on fostering cognitive, academic, social, and emotional growth of young children.
